It wasn't an adventure book, it was much more a quiet surrealism (if you can call a kid's chapter book that).
Still listening for ideas...thanks.

By the way, you never seem to age a bit.

From what I can tell of Mildred Lawrence, her books are too much set in the "real world" for this. Tell me if I'm wrong, though.
Same with Elizabeth Ladd.
Anne Molloy, I doubt it - guessing from her titles, she liked to write mysteries.
This book was offbeat and charming, and no more about real places than, say, The Phantom Tollbooth.

Thank you, but really my profile picture is like a reverse Dorian Gray. It stays beautiful, but behind closed doors I'm fighting off the ravages.

I can't rule it out.

There are a lot more than just a handful of people on that island, too.
Books mentioned in this topic
Ever-After Island (other topics)Secret of the Ron Mor Skerry (other topics)
Island of fish in the trees (other topics)
The Twenty-One Balloons (other topics)
All I remember is that it was set on an island, and the island only had maybe 6 or 8 inhabitants. A girl visited the island on a boat one day a week (I think Wednesday). Each person on the island had a peculiarity.
There were a few illustrations, maybe one per chapter or so. Probably about a third-grade reading level.
Any info appreciated!
