I finished Goblet last night, and plan on starting Order of the Phoenix this morning (if work allows)

message 2802: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (hedgehoggal) I am reading Emma right now for my Jane Austen class and I love it!! I just finished Mansfield Park though which I detested...

message 2803: by Agnes (new)

Agnes I started The Promise President Obama, Year One by Jonathan Alter and so far really interesting

message 2804: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 604 comments I'm reading A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly and it's my first by this author. It's been a great read so far. I'm speeding through it.

message 2805: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I just finished Graceling and now I have to finish Atlantis Found so I can start more books.

message 2806: by D (new)

D I'm listening to the Harry Potter books, too. I'm not quite halfway through Order of the Phoenix right now. I've been listening for a couple hours a day during the week and a bit more on the weekends. I think I'm going to need to step it up in order to finish The Half Blood Prince before the seventh movie comes out!

message 2807: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I just finished Travels with Charley: In Search of America and am about to start The Hunger Games. I'm excited to start this series finally. I've been feeling like I'm the only person who hasn't read any of them!

message 2808: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments i have not read the hunger games but i looked forward to doing so

message 2809: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Heather- I'm reading Travels with Charlie too! Loving it so far.

Heather (andshewontsleep) Kimberly wrote: "Heather- I'm reading Travels with Charlie too! Loving it so far."

I wanted to love it so bad but I ended up being disappointed :( I think I had hyped it up way too much and I read it while I was sick so I couldn't really stay focused. You'll have to let me know what you think once you finish. Maybe I'll have to give it a reread.

message 2811: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I finished Nothing and am currently reading The Children's Book. I have a feeling that it's going to take me awhile...

message 2812: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I recently finished two ginormous books, The Crimson Petal and the White and Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles. Now I'm starting Silent in the Grave, the first in a series I've heard is great.

message 2813: by Kimberly (new)

I'll definitely let you know what I thought of it!

message 2814: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I finished reading Atlantis Found by Clive Cussler. It was a great book to read with lots of mystery and adventure.

message 2815: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Amanda - Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! Did you know about the new series by the same author that's set a couple of years after this one? It starts with The Lost Hero.

message 2816: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments The Lost Hero was a great book and I think this series will be better than the Percy Jackson series.

message 2817: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments Yes because the new evil leader is more dangerous than kronos and Rick Riordan starts mixing Roman mythology with the Greek.

message 2818: by Madge (last edited Nov 14, 2010 02:47PM) (new)

Madge (madge_the_bibliomaniac) I was not very impressed by The Namesake to be honest. It was alright, in my opinion, but it's definitely something that I will never read again or recommend to someone, unless they're VERY interested in reading something specifically like that book. It took me days to get through it, even though it was less than 300 pages. I think I read The Time Traveler's Wife in 2 or 3 days, and it was about twice as long.

Now, I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha and I'm about 80 pages into it. I love it so far.

message 2819: by Meagan (new)

Meagan (mmbell) I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, because I read it so quickly the first time that I don't really remember what happened, and I don't want to be surprised when I watch the movie!

I'm still struggling through Eating Animals, it is very thought provoking, it just isn't very "fun" to read...

message 2820: by Lauren (last edited Nov 15, 2010 05:40PM) (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I can't remember the last book that I posted on this thread that I've read but here's the last few.. In the Name of Honour, Burned Alive, Hidden Wives, Fever 1793, House Rules, and A Reliable Wife. Right now I'm reading Dracula and Some Girls: My Life in a Harem. I like Some Girls and Dracula is pretty good, but I have to admit all the descriptions are bogging me down. Haha.

message 2821: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments I finished Sister Carrie yesterday. It was ok, I really wanted to like it but the characters just drove me crazy! It was interesting though and gives great insight into American life in the late 19th century.

Don't know what I'm going to start next. For now I'm still trying to finish HP7 before thursday.

message 2822: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 604 comments I finished A Northern Light a couple days ago and I really loved it-5 stars! I haven't been able to start anything new since then because I've been trying to catch up on my reading for an Anthropology class, but I'm hoping to start book 3 of The Immortals series tonight.

message 2823: by Misha (new)

Misha (misha20) I just finished In Pursuit by Joanna Fitzpatrick. Its a biographical fiction about Katherine Mansfield. I loved it! I have never read anything by Katherine Mansfield, but now I am going to.

I am currently reading Grace Under Pressure by Julie Hyzy and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.

message 2824: by Meagan (new)

Meagan (mmbell) Just finished Celia, a Slave. It's a really interesting book about American slavery if anyone is interested in that topic. It is a really quick read, but it will definitely make you think.

Still reading HP 6 and Eating Animals, I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever finish Animals!

message 2825: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I have started reading Dawntheif by James Barclay. So far it is a very good book, and look forward to reading the whole series.

message 2826: by Kjerstin (new)

Kjerstin (kjerstinkaye) I just finished Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan . I really liked it. Now on to Moll Flanders (Norton Critical Editions) by Daniel Defoe for school and The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) by Rick Riordan for fun. :)

message 2827: by Meagan (new)

Meagan (mmbell) So, I just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I wanted to reread it before I reread the 7th one. Oh my goodness, I had forgotten how incredibly sad this book is. I was literally sobbing when I got to the end. The ending never gets easier to read, no matter how many times I read it. Now it is onto HP7...

message 2828: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I just stayed up much later than I should have, considering I have to get up in 5 hours, to finish Silent in the Grave. I absolutely LOVED it...I'm not sure my wallet loved it, because now I am obliged to go out and buy the rest of the series.

message 2829: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I finally finished the Order of the Phoenix and plan on starting Half Blood Prince today. Didn't quite make it through all 7 before the movie.

message 2830: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I've been reading Wuthering Heights because I needed a bit of Gothic romance in my life. But because my brain is fried from a massive historiography that I've been writing, I brought along The Portable Beat Reader to read today. I am so looking forward to Christmas break so I can get some reading done!

message 2831: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I'm still making my way through The Maze Runner and I started reading Jumpstart the World a couple days ago.

message 2832: by Jessie (new)

Jessie (Jessie08) | 128 comments I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha which I am really enjoying so far.

Also, for my African fiction course I am reading Half of a Yellow Sun which I have read before and loved. Rereading it I am easily remembering why I call this book one of my favorites. I highly recommend it!

message 2833: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I just finished Eating Animals which really surprised me. I'm definitely going to be more careful about the meat I'm eating (if I can even bring myself to eat meat again in the near future, haha).

I've just started Catching Fire. I'm about 90 pages in and a little disappointed so far but excited to keep reading.

message 2834: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I started Memoirs of a Geisha a few days ago and am really enjoying it so far!

Even though I don't like reading two books at once, I got sad that I can't see the new Harry Potter movie yet and decided to start Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a part of my reread.

message 2835: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 604 comments I am almost finished reading Room. It's pretty disturbing-of course-but I've been enjoying it.

I started Fallen last night and I'm almost halfway through it already. I'm loving it and I hope it continues that way. I've been majorly disappointed by a few young adult series lately, the most recent being The Immortals series which I stopped reading after book 3.

message 2836: by Bob (new)

Bob Prophet (prophetbob) I'm working on the audiobook "A Nation Rising: Untold Tales of Flawed Founders, Fallen Heroes, and Forgotten Fighters from America's Hidden History" by Kenneth C. Davis and "The Art of Being" by Erich Fromm (as well as casually reading a couple of others). Recently I finished "The Heart of Man: Its Genius For Good and Evil" by Erich Fromm and "Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl (and appreciated both).

I just finished Eating Animals as well. It was incredibly hard to read. I'm really going to have to think about the decisions I've been making, aren't you?

Heather (andshewontsleep) Meagan wrote: "Heather wrote: "I just finished Eating Animals which really surprised me. I'm definitely going to be more careful about the meat I'm eating (if I can even bring myself to eat meat ag..."

Yes, definitely! I've had a hard time eating meat in general since I started and finished it. I found myself reading half of the passages out loud to my boyfriend because I was so grossed out/ shocked.

message 2839: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Um... ya. I think I'll just skip that book...

message 2840: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finally finished "Erec Rex: The Three Furies" by Kaza Kingsley. I'm continuing with "Blue Moon" by Alyson Noel..trying to get that finished up. I'm about halfway through now. I started a book called "I'll Be Home For Christmas" by Fern Michaels. A little Holiday reading to get pumped up for the season.

message 2841: by V (new)

V Mignon (veemignon) | 7 comments I just finished Vanity Fair and The Nanny Diaries, so now I'm reading A Wonderful Welcome to Oz, which includes The Marvelous Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, and The Emerald City of Oz. I think I'll read The Poisonwood Bible or Kafka's The Trial after Oz.

message 2842: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) I'm working on reading all seven Harry Potter books and finished the first yesterday. I am working on getting the second, but I probably wont get it for sometime.

So, I will put that on pause and read World Without End.

message 2843: by Arphaxad (last edited Nov 25, 2010 06:30AM) (new)

Arphaxad Just finished re-reading (with great relish) Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow; absolutely loved both as always. Am now left with that strange ache in the chest that Ender books always seem to give me..perhaps because I get far too attached to the characters!

Now moving on to Terrier, which just arrived in the post. Yay :)

Hoe you enjoy, it's my favorite by the author.

message 2845: by Bob (new)

Bob Prophet (prophetbob) "Ender's Game" is great in audiobook format too. :)

message 2846: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Love Enders Game!

message 2847: by BurgendyA (new)

BurgendyA | 37 comments The book I've recently finished reading was Valley of the Dolls by Jacquelne Suanne. This story was a huge emotional rollercoaster that haves you spuned. =)~

message 2848: by [deleted user] (new)

finished: The World According to Garp
started: Watership Down

I am just now realizing how completely different these two books are. One completely lacks innocence and the other is dripping with it.

message 2849: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad Kimberly wrote: "Love Enders Game!"

Yay :) They're both among my all-time faves, definitely.

message 2850: by Meagan (new)

Meagan (mmbell) I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I didn't quite finish rereading it in time to go see the movie... I still love this book, and it still made me cry. It doesn't get much better than that.

I think I'm going to start One Hundred Years of Solitude, I'm in the mood for a bit of a challenge.
