I'm starting The Name of the Wind right now, I hope it's as good as it sounds on the cover! Has anyone read it?

I'm currently reading Love in the Time of Cholera. It actually didn't do very well on my page 69 test but I've decided to give it a go anyway.
Just finished The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks this morning. It was a quick read. I don't know why his work is so popular- sure there's a lot of wish-fulfillment for bored housewives, but otherwise, eh.And it's shallow, but his prose is so un-stylized. And his characters/work completely lack any self/meta-introspection.
Now going to start either Tigana or Across the Nightingale Floor. Or try and finally finish Zero The Biography of a Dangerous Idea or my ee cummings's poetry selection.

Finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and now on to The Great Gatsby which is one of those books I'm surprised I never ended up reading!
I am reading The Autobiography of Henry VIII With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers by Margaret George. For a history nerd like me, this is heaven in the form of a book.
I just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I don't really suggest it to anyone because it's VERY hard to follow and understand. It was a good book though, so it's obviously your choice. Now, I am getting ready to start Eclipse.
Stephany - I had to read that book twice to even begin to understand what was going on. I still really enjoyed it....but the movie was just awful.
Kelly wrote: "I am reading The Autobiography of Henry VIII With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers by Margaret George. For a history nerd like me, this is heaven in the form of a book."Kelly, that sounds like a book that I'd like too! You'll have to let us know if it's good.
I am currently reading 3 books. "Different Seasons" by Stephen King, "El Zahir" by Paulo Coelho & "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt. Has anyone read any of these books. =)~
I guess I have to start reading The Learners A Novel, since an acquaintance was kind enough to buy it for me as a surprise. After that, who knows? So many good books, not enough time before school starts back up to finish them all.
I finished "The Lightning Theif" last night. I'm gonna start "The Sea of Monsters" . I am also going to finish reading "Tempted" .
I always seem to be reading three books at once, but right now my main focus is on "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingslover. So far I really like it.
Kaion wrote: "Just finished The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks this morning. It was a quick read. I don't know why his work is so popular- sure there's a lot of wish-fulfillment for bored housewives, but..."I agree about the comment on Nicolas Sparks. I am not a fan.
Finally finished Poe's Children today and loved it. I would definitely recommend it to any fans of horror. Now, I'm putting three books to the 50 pg. test:
The Forever War, which was recommended to me by a dear friend
Ceremony, which I've heard great things about.
The Book of Lost Things, which I've been dying to read for months--it finally came in at the library!
I just started The Book Thief, and I can't wait to read more. I'm only on page 32 and already it sounds fantastic.
I just finished Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. It was beautifully heartbreaking; I loved it and highly recomend it.I'm still reading The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. Some parts of this are extremely depressing and I have to set it down for a few days before picking it up again.

I'm going to have to read Cry, the Beloved Country. I've been hearing such good things about it!
Tahleen wrote: "I really loved Ceremony. I think I was the only one in my class who did."I really love it so far! I am glad though that I never had to read this for any class--I always have a tendency to dislike books I read for school.
I just finished The Learners. I'm so glad my wonderful stalker bought it for me. Now I need to figure out what to read tonight.
I'm almost finished the the new Peter and the Starcatchers book Peter and the Sword of Mercy. It's really good so far. I don't know exactly what it is but those books are just so awesomely entertaining!
How many Peter books are there? I was lent one from a friend, but had no idea it was a series. I may have to stop by the toy store.
Just finished The Hunger Games. Best ya book I've read in a long, long time. If today wasn't new years eve I'd go out and buy the sequel Catching Fire right now!! But I really should wait until the weekend... must... resist... bookstore....
I finished "Tempted" last night, my last book for 2009. I am no going to continue with the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series and also start reading "Burned" by Ellen Hopkins.
Just finished Death With Interruptions which I really enjoyed. This was the first book I read by Jose Saramago and I was quite impressed. I got the barnes and nobles nook for Christmas and was disappointed that they dont have anything by him in e-book format (I've been noticing numerous glaring omissions from the available e-books :/ )Now I'm starting Dracula and it will be the first book read on my new nook which I'm excited about. :)

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Death with Interruptions! I've been thinking about reading it soon!
Jamie wrote: "I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Death with Interruptions! I've been thinking about reading it soon!"Its a very engaging read once you get used to his punctuation oddities and the unbelievably long sentences. :)
Kimberly wrote:..."I just finished today and it was SO good. It gets a little historically inaccurate at times, but it shows a side of Henry that history doesn't really recognize. It's really long, but really enjoyable.
I finished Joe Haldeman's The Forever War this morning and really enjoyed it, even though I'm not one to usually read science fiction!
I'm reading Swann's Way right now. I'm always too afraid to try to read it while I'm in school, so I'm going to finish it this week. Wish me luck!
I just finished Rules. It made me cry! Over break I also read The Anti 9-to-5 Guide Practical Career Advice for Women Who Think Outside the Cube which was pretty good. About a Boy, which I thought was hilarious and a really quick read and Jesus Land A Memoir which again made me cry, but was so powerful!

Just finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.. I've never read anything be her and really enjoyed this book. It seemed really simple at first but the emotions were very raw and realistic. I am now starting The Kite Runner, which I have heard amazing things about and am really excited to read. Then it is onto the books for this month!
I finished The Name of the Wind 2 days ago, it was amazing! I can't wait for the sequel to come out! Am currently reading the Heretic's Daughter.

I loved The Bell Jar too! I'm going to reread it this year. And her journals are amazing!
I just finished The Book Thief and I absolutely loved it. I think I'll finally finish The Beautiful and Damned today. I think this is the longest its ever taken me to finish a book. I really don't enjoy it, which makes me sad, but I want to finish it. I've been reading it in between reading other books which is why it's taking me so long.

That's one I have been meaning to read but haven't yet. Let me know how it is!

Antoinette wrote: "I just read "The Reader" and I'm about to start " The Alchemist"."I plan on starting The Alchemist after I finish A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I'm excited to see what I think of it. I hear you either love or hate Paulo Coelho.
Kellie- I just finished The Book Thief as well. I thought it was an amazing book and loved the perspective it was told from.I just began Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. It's my last library book I have, and after its returned I can begin on all my books I got for Christmas.
I am an odd one then. I don't Hate Paulo Coelho, but I don't love him either. The only thing I have read that he has written was the Alchemist, and it was a so so book. Definitely not my favorite, but also not the worst. I am going to try at least one more by him before forming an opinion. Stress the word try. :)
