I just finished "The Bell Jar" and I loved it! It was hard to get into at first, but once I identified with Esther, I couldn't put the book down! She was so similar to me (her life, her feminist thoughts, and her depression...to a lesser extent though)

I finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close this morning. I really liked it!
Now I'm reading Twilight. I'm already almost 200 pages into it, I did not think I was going to like it at all...but I can't put it down.

My boyfriend's grandmother just gave me a Nicholas Sparks book to read, The Choice. As lame as I found it, I couldnt put it down! It was so good! But I still think his love stories are lame haha

I'm reading Swann's Way right now and I'm absolutely loving it! Something about this time of year makes me fall in love with language, and Swann's Way is a tremendous experiment in language. I wish I had the time to read it in its original French, maybe this summer.

It was actually really good, one of my favorite chick lit books yet. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, because the beginning isn't all that great, but it grew on me.

It's been a long time since I've read Speak or seen the movie, but I remember thinking the movie was pretty well done, considering the fact that so much of the book is thoughts and observations rather than dialog (at least for the main character).

So true. I read the first and second novel, and I have the fourth one in my stack somewhere, but I just really didn't enjoy the style of the books at all. I do however like the fact it makes place in Tulsa, since I grew up only 40 miles from there. I liked reading about places I see everyday when I drive to work.

I just finished reaing Dreamfever and Hamlet. I am now reading The Handmaid's Tale, Anna Karenina and The Taming of the Shrew.

Just started The Unbearable Lightness of Being. I'm kind of bored with it already.

I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Catching Fire. Both were ok, but not great. Potato was funny and Fire was exciting, but both were pretty contrived and neither were written very well. Still, they were entertaining for a quick pleasure read.

I'm currently reading The Crying of Lot 49, which is just plain strange, and I'm hoping to get The Remains of the Day from the library soon.
I'm also going to be ordering some paperbackswap books soon so I'll be sure to have books over winter break. I'm hoping to get a bunch of my challenge books done over Christmas.

Close to the middle of Tomcat in Love. I remember LOVING The Things They Carried in high school, and this book is okay so far but hasn't blown me away yet.

The handmaid's Tale was good, my first Margaret Atwood and I want to read her other novels now. The idea itself was hard to read about but I think it was definitely worth it!

I started
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time but it is taking me FOREVER to read. I want to like it, because I like the idea, I just can't get into it at all.

I also picked up Unaccustomed Earth at the library this morning! I might have to start this one instead.

I just finished Brilliance of the Moon by Lian Hearn. It was ok, fairly entertaining! I liked the trilogy, but I won't read them again, so I'll give them to a charity book store.

Has anyone read Emma Goldmans autobiography 'Living my life'? I REALLY want to read it!

This weekend I finished A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and Rapunzel's Revenge, a fractured fairy tale graphic novel. Both were fantastic reads.

Last night I started Salem's Lot by Stephen King. First time I've gotten a chance to read it and it's excellent so far. My mom always told me about how she read it when she was a teenager and it scared her so badly, she never read another SK book again. I've been itching to read it ever since. :D

Jessie, It's really good. My advice: definitely have a pen handy when you read it in case something jumps out at you, have a journal to write what you think, and have a secondary light read so that you don't get too much in her head.

I just started reading Elantris. I finally bought it after Michelle recommended it. I'm only 70ish pages into it but I'm loving it so far. It's completely different than other fantasy novels I've read.

I just finished reading The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan. I found the story quite weird and disturbing, but I really enjoyed its prose and its style. I always appreciate the way McEwan can depict the atmosphere surrounding his characters with extraordinary skill. Even the most absurd situation seems real and convincing like you could actually enter it.

Now I'm reading "Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body" (or, to be more precise I'm listening to the audio book); I've only just started it, but it looks interesting.

@Katerina: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is really good, maybe a bit slow in some points but I loved the main character, Lisbeth. She is so strong and smart, and even with her many faults I think she's one of the best fictional heroine I've ever read about.

I always wondered why they changed the title in English, though...it should be "Men who hate women", which is absolutely more appropriate.

I'm still working on The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, which is quickly becoming a favorite book of mine. It's so funny and, seriously, I'm getting contact highs. Love it.

I also can't put down The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. I'm supposed to read it with a friend, but I just can't stop. She doesn't even have her copy yet. She'll either get over it or she won't.

And I'm reading Coffee and Coffeehouses The Origins of a Social Beverage in the Medieval Near East for my Eastern Civ class. You'd think that I'd like it since it's about coffee, but not so much. It's pretty dry. I feel like I should like it because the professor likes is and I like the professor, but I don't.
