I'm kind of hopping all over the place with books right now. Oprah has a new free ebook up, Colum McCann's Let the Great World Spin, which I began reading at work today. Wow. It's a really fascinating book so far, well-written, and easy to imagine in mind's eye.

Okay finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and I loved it! I wouldn't say it is for everyone, though. It's funny and depressing at the same time. Some of it is written in Spanglish (but not enough to really miss anything), the narrator uses slang, and there are little footnotes throughout the book. But if you don't mind any of that, READ IT! I really enjoyed it.Now for something completely different... just started The Woman in White
I am reading the Count of Monte Cristo.I am a little behind on the book club reads for this group :)
I am currently reading Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which I am loving, and I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty.
Jamie wrote: "ooh such a good book Liz!! Let me know what you think! I am a huge pusher of everyone to read EL&IC!"I'm about a hundred pages in and enjoying it so far :)
Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo like 5 mins ago. I enjoyed it alot, but now it's time to figure out what I'll read next.
Just finished The Secret Life of Bees today. It's pretty good! (I also read a fair few zines, but I don't think they count here.)
While on vacation, I finished reading Bruce Feiler's Walking the Bible. I also read a Dutch translation called Rupert: A Confession. It was interesting, but extremely creepy too.
I'm still working on Count of Monte Cristo, I haven't had time to read. But its a great book so far!
Over the weekend I finished, White Teeth and The Grapes of Wrath. Need to finish the last two Steinbeck stories and then on to a book that is still a mystery to me.
I am reading Waiter Rant Thanks for the Tip-Confessions of a Cynical Waiter. It's not was I was expecting exactly - I thought it would be more like the website, but so far it's a lot of 'how I became a waiter' and 'I have decided to write a book'. Strangely, it makes me miss my waitress/food service days.
I'm reading Min Jin Lee's Free Food for Millionaires, which was in the bargain section at B&N. I was looking for something long but not particularly dense for my flight (though I ended up sleeping). So far I hate the protagonist, but the cultural tension is intriguing.
I finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, which I thought was great. Now I'm reading Dances with Wolves and The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks. Both are very good so far.

I just finished The Help and really liked it. My mom was raising by a black maid in Virginia during the same time period so it was really interesting to talk about her experiences and the book.

It should be, and we should get the day off from work so we can use it to read them :)

Finished Memoirs of a Geisha and loved the book.
Now starting The Sorceress.
I really need to read a few lighter books than the ones I have been reading. :)_

I'm reading Reading Lolita in Tehran finally. I'm late for the group read, but it at least sparked my motivation! I've had the book for like four years.
Jamie, it is on the 1001 list. I saw it for a quarter at a book sale, so I grabbed it and changed my challenge around a bit to include it. Did you see the movie? I saw it when it first came out, and I don't remember it following the book very close, but the movie was good, but the book is much better. Usually the case!
I found a new used book store, so I plan on hitting it today or tomorrow. See if I can find some more great buys.

Yesterday I finished After You by Julie Buxbaum and am now reading The Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond.
Just finished the graphic novel "Arkham Asylum" (a Batman comic). Hey, I gotta keep up my street cred, guys!
P.S. Yes I'm a girl, and I read comics. :D

I finished reading The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien yesterday and I'm almost done re-reading Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring and de Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince =)
Krystel wrote: "just finished Angels and Demons by Dan Brown"What did you think? That's one of my favorite mystery novels.
I think I might read The Great Gatsby before I start that part in Reading Lolita in Tehran... what do you guys think? Does the book totally give it all away? Not that I don't know what happens really, but I don't know everything...
I just finished rereading Stargirl. I read it for the first time when I was 14, my 9th grade English teacher assigned it as a class read. I remember liking it then, and I loved reading it this time. Its one of those books that makes you look at life differently. Anyone else read it?
Finished The Sorceress. Great book, so far the whole series is good, but now the wait for the next one.
Started Odd Hours last night.

Just finished Just Another Kid by Torey Hayden. It was ok, not my favorite one by her. I am going to start Eclipse! I am very excited for it! :) Haha
Just finished Running with Scissors A Memoir, I really enjoyed it. I'm still reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and also just started The Glass Castle for the September read.

Janet: I plan on reading One Child soon! I've had it sitting on my bookshelf for a long time and need to read it!
Kellie: How was Running with Scissors? I've been meaning to read that as well. I've seen the movie but I'm sure the book is better.

I just finished The Shack. It was not what I expected at all but it turned out to be pretty good anyways. It had a lot about God in it which I do not usually particularly like but the book was so well written that it was still enjoyable I am now moving on to Speak. Has anyone else read this book before??

I read it this summer actually! I was pleasantly surprised by Speak! I wish I would have read it as a teenager though..I think I would have gotten a ton out of it.
