A reader from one of my first-year English courses recommended I Capture The Castle to me. It's a favorite of mine.

I just finished Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey, and now I'm reading The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockheart...I went to a Teen Lit Conference for work on April 4th, so I'm trying to read a few of the books they recommended as the best teen books of 2008-2009 so far.
Just finished I Capture the Castle, it was good just not exactly my cup of tea. Perhaps too old fashioned and romantic for my tastes, but I can see how some people would really like it.
I finished reading "Chosen" last week. I am now reading "Untamed"...the 4th book of the "House of Night" series.
I didn't make it through finals without starting a new book. I am trying to choose the books I already own, so I started A Long Stone's Throw. So far, it has been fairly quick reading, so should be able to start Slaughterhouse Five soon!
Roisu, I read On the Road while I was in high school and really liked it. I've been meaning to re-read it since I've found so many hidden meanings in books that I would never have found in high school. Hope you enjoy it.I just finished Angels & Demons and loved it. The plot was very similar to The Da Vinci Code, and I'm sure the facts were far fetched (or complete fiction) but it was an interesting, on the edge of my seat read.
I think I need to give On the Road another shot... I tried to read it last summer and I only got halfway through it. I really didn't like it. But maybe I will a second time around.
I read about half of it before giving up too, Tahleen. I had to read it for Contemp American Fiction. There were some good parts and interesting descriptions, but overall the Beats really annoy me with their smugness. But one day I would like to actually read the whole thing instead of cheating and sparknote-ing like I did
Lynn, haha yes! That's how I feel! I guess I just couldn't stand their I-have-no-responsibilities-and-shouldn't-have-to-take-responsibility-for-my-actions-ness. Or whatever.
I'm reading The Good Earth right now. I really like it. I'm only about 100 pages in, but I'm feeling drawn to other books (mainly Love in the Time of Cholera). Hopefully I'll be able to resist temptation. The past couple of weeks, I've discovered that when I focus on one book, rather than have a book for before classes, a book for lunch, and a book for bedtime, I get more into it and read it faster (go figure).Tahleen, Lynn, I know what you mean! I'm looking forward to actually reading books rather than use the Sparknotes. Honestly, even if it's something I want to read really badly, as soon as it's assigned for class, I'm out.
I just finished Odd Thomas. I would have finished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle A Novel, but I left it at my mom's house 450 miles away. I'm going to finish the Preacher series today and listen to The Time Traveler's Wife like a madwoman so I can finally look at the spoilers thread.

Did you enjoy Edgar Sawtelle so far? I've been debating on reading it!

I recently finished Dracula and loved it and am currently working on Coraline, Waiting for Godot (which I need to finish by tomorrow for class) and John Dryden's translation of Virgil's Aeneid.

How did you like The Host? I've heard mixed reviews!

I really like it. I finished it in a couple of days because i got so into it that i couldn't stop reading. The people around me were getting upset that i wasn't doing anything except reading. They would understand if they were the ones reading. I think you'd enjoy it.
I really love I Capture the Castle but agree that it is pretty old fashioned and romantic. I still think it is a great coming of age story and the imagery is beautiful. I also enjoyed the movie version.I recently finished Shibumi which was an excellent adventure novel with heavy zen influences.
Now I am reading The Neverending Story which is interesting because I recognize the first 1/2 of the book from the first movie but the second 1/2 of the book is totally new to me.
Just finished Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson. If you like the Robert Jordan-style of descriptive fantasy, you will LOVE this series!
I love Brandon Sanderson! On a different note, if you like Brandon Sanderson, you'd probably like The Name of the Wind. It's the greatest adult fantasy book I've ever read and one of my all time favorite books in general!
I'm currently reading In Defense of Food An Eater's Manifesto and The Death and Life of Great American Cities. So far, both are great!I had a hard time getting into I Capture the Castle, though it was quite whimsical and fun. The plot is intriguing to me, too.
I'm just about to start Storm Glass . I bought it a couple days ago but haven't let myself start it because of finals. Now I get to read a brand new book from one of my favorite authors.
Tahleen wrote: "<3 Dianna Wynne Jones. Have you ever read the Dalemark quartet? Sooo good."No, I haven't heard of it. I'll have to look into it. :)
i finished The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary and The Magic Pudding a few days ago.And now I'm about halfway through The Time Traveler's Wife
I just finished The Beach House by Jane Green... It was really good and not at all girlie... Now I'm on to The Poisonwood Bible. I haven't started yet, but for anyone who's read it, what did you think of it?

I just bought it! I really want to read it soon. I've heard great things about that and Prodigal Summer.

I really like Barbara Kingsolver. I just checked Animal, Vegetable, Miracle out of the library today. Has anyone read it? I also started reading When You are Engulfed in Flames (Sedaris).
I read The Poisonwood Bible several years ago (maybe 5 years) but I really enjoyed it, read Prodigal Summer A Novel last year sometime and it was also very good. My mom is a huge Kingsolver fan and she really liked Animal, Vegetable, Miracle A Year of Food Life but I haven't read it yet (I prefer her fiction but I usually prefer fiction in general)
I really like Kingsolver too. The Poisonwood Bible was really good but not my favorite by her, I liked Animal Dreams and The Bean Trees better (but that might just be because of the setting). I really want to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and I recently bought Prodigal Summer.
Just finished The Bean Trees and I liked it. I thought it was a cute story and just really something simple to get away from the heavy school reading. I am still trying to finish The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down for a class. It's really good but a little hard to get through. I really want to finish it though! Haha.
I'm still working on The Good Earth. I do like it, but lately I've been wanting to read something light before I go to bed, so I'm not making as much progress as I'd like. But I hope to finish it either during finals week or the week after.
Yesterday I read The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and it was pretty cute. I will be obsessed with secret societies for a while because of it.I'm still working on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies The Classic Regency Romance - Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!. I read P&P a few months ago and it was SO slow for me. The zombies help it a little, but it hasn't picked up much tbh.
I have been in a major Holocaust book mood. I just finished reading The Book Thief (AMAZING) and the Night trilogy by Elie Wiesel. I bought Milkweed, which I am excited to read. I am reading The Secret Life of Bees right now. I am really enjoying it.

The Book Thief was AMAZING!!

Anyone read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon? It's fantastic and long enough to withstand that first super-intense reading spree. I barreled through a third of the thing before my eyes revolted.

I heard the zombie version is amusing enough to go through that book again...what do you think, is it worth it?
I just finished Miracle at St. Anna and it was terrible. There were too many back stories and useless information the story it self wasn't bad there was just a lot of other junk that got in the way. I started the Dubliners but I've been working too much to really devote much time to it so I'm only a few pages in.
Finished A Long Stone's Throw today. It was okay, but I prefer reading Frank's books. Alphie is kind of a little brat. Even when he is older. :)
Just started Slaughterhouse Five.
