Anna Shumaker (annashu) Just finished Tipping the Velvet. It was pretty good but I saw the movie about a year ago so most of the thrill was ruined, I thought it had been long enough but I guess not.

Michelle Kay (dinosaur) | 56 comments ive just finished Midnight Sun
And I Am Legend

And I've started Candy in Action today

message 603: by [deleted user] (new)

Michelle, what did you think of Fight Club?

I finished Cunt A Declaration of Independence Expanded and Updated Second Edition -it is one of the best books I have ever read!

I'm reading Expect Resistance A Crimethink Field Manual now- it's brilliant!

message 604: by Michelle Kay (new)

Michelle Kay (dinosaur) | 56 comments fight club was very much like the movie, surprisingly.

more cleverly worded and in a little different order than the movie, but better, as books always are.

but if youve seen the movie, theres no twists or surprises you havent seen, and the book then gets kind of boring. at least for me.

i like to read and see the differences between books and their movies.

message 605: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I just got back from visiting a friend and I was reading a book a day...so here is what I've read: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet A Novel, Hannah's Dream A Novel, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. They were all pretty good, just simple easy reads but perfect for vacation time.

message 606: by Michelle Kay (new)

Michelle Kay (dinosaur) | 56 comments i've just finished i am legend and invisible monsters and candy in action.

and am started on petals on the wind.

message 607: by Allison (new)

Allison just finished jonathon strange and mr. norrell

now i'm reading the life and many deaths of harry houdini.

message 608: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I am reading House of Leaves. I have mixed feelings about it so far. I'm almost done with the 'book' part (there's about 200 pages of exhibits and appendixes...appendii?). The story is really good but a lot of the research is kind of boring and too mathematically inclined. Way too many made up footnotes and the secondary story in the footnotes is getting pretty hard to follow.
The text goes every which way on the page and gets to be a little too much sometimes and some pages only have one word on them which I feel like is kind of a waste in places where it doesn't add anything to the story.

message 609: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm reading The Book Thief and loving it!

message 610: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading "Betrayed" last night and I am now reading "Chosen". Both are part of the "House of Night" series by P.C. and Kristin Cast.

message 611: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Justine, I felt the same way about The House of Leaves. Experimental fiction interests me, and I didn't mind so much the one word on each page/sideways or backwards sentences, but I did feel like it started to get a little bit boring and tedious. I still have to finish it!

Kimberly: I'm glad you're enjoying The Book Thief! I loved it!

message 612: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Kelsey, I thought the parts that were actually a story and not just references or whatever was really good. I feel like I have no idea what happened at the end.

message 613: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 14 comments Just finished Lonesome Dove.....I definitely recommend it.

message 614: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Just finished The Book Thief, I loved it!! One of the best books I have read for a long while.

I am now rereading Ender's Game. Love this book. :)

message 615: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading a book on abnormal and clinical psychology at the moment. It's absolutely facinating!

message 618: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Just finished World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War, I only read it because I promised a friend I would read it if she stopped giving me a hard time about Twilight. I really like apocalypse movies but books just never do it for me, it was interesting but the same plot I've seen/read before.

message 619: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Yesterday I read books 1-6 of the Sin City Graphic novels. I'm reading Brave New World, Sense and Sensibility, and of course, The Time Traveler's Wife. My ipod keeps confusing me and I think I'm FINALLY about to start the second half of The Time Traveler's Wife, but it never happens.

message 620: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I am currently reading "Chosen" by P.C. and Kristin Cast. The House of Night series is really good so far.

message 621: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I just finished Perfect Fifths A Novel. I'm really sad that the series has ended.

message 622: by Liz (new)

Liz I finished Beyond Ragnarok a few days ago, and have recently started Dracula and am also working on Great Expectations.

message 623: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I'm reading Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Great vampire book so far, plus more mature (and just better) than the vampire stuff I've been reading (all teen stuff).

message 624: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Just finished The Bell Jar. It was a re-read (for maybe the 4th time), and I still really like it. I think that given different circumstances I could be in a similar situation so every time I read it I'm grateful to live in current times. I also have a copy that was published in 1971 (I think) and I just love it which makes reading it that much better.

Michelle Kay (dinosaur) | 56 comments I've Just Finished Go Ask Alice

and am still reading The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary
and am starting on The Scarlet Letter

one of my all time favorite books!

message 627: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I just finished re-reading Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility (dunno how many times this makes it); I love how every time I read this book, I pick up something different, whether it be a particular action or a particular character trait =)

Dunno what to read next as I'm supposed to be studying for my exam =(

message 628: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I need to read The Bell Jar.

message 629: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Michelle Kay wrote: "I've Just Finished Go Ask Alice

What did you think of Go Ask Alice? I've been told its one of those books that everyone should read.

message 630: by [deleted user] (new)

Go Ask Alice and The Bell Jar are brilliant!

message 631: by Michelle Kay (new)

Michelle Kay (dinosaur) | 56 comments it was really good. it was a true story, well a true journal anyways. so theres no real ending and theres a lot of questions that go unanswered. but its still compelling. comparing it to your own experiences (if you have any similar) really shows the generation differences.

message 632: by Anna (new)

Anna (heyannahey) | 67 comments I'm rereading Angels & Demons in time for the movie to come out. :)

Not as good as the first time around... Sigh.

message 633: by Molly (new)

Molly (slinkyxo) | 153 comments I just started The Pact A Love Story after finishing The Time Traveler's Wife..so glad that it was our group read! I would have waited a while longer to read it.

Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife and now on to Lolita!

I just finished listening to the audio book, you should try that. The reader is excellent!

message 636: by Anna (new)

Anna (heyannahey) | 67 comments You know, I've never listened to an audio book. I should probably pick one up sometime from the library or something. Much better than listening to crap on the radio when I'm driving to work. :)

I listened to my first audiobook on my commute to work this past month..I am so happy i tried it. I listened to I Know This Much Is True

message 638: by Anna (new)

Anna (heyannahey) | 67 comments I don't know why I always strayed away from them. They seem really convenient now that I think about it.
Does it take long to listen to a book?

message 639: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie In the past, my family has listened to audio books on long car trips. I like them ok.. but my mind wanders. And sometimes the reader's voice is super weird and distracting

message 640: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I'm terrible at audio books. My mom tried to get me to listen to them when we drove long distances together and I'd be listening fine for 20-30 minutes then my mind would wonder and she would ask me to put in the next disk before I even realized that I was completely zoned out.

message 641: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Anna, it depends on the book. Some are abridged and shorter, and some are really long and unabridged. I've seen one as short as four hours, and as long as 17 (there are probably ones out there that are longer). And plus the longer ones are going to be more expensive because they'll have more discs, unless you get them from the library in which case they will be free!

message 642: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I'm currently reading I Capture the Castle, and Three Junes, they are both pretty good but seem to be taking me forever...

I just bought I Capture the Castle. Let me know what you think when you are finished with it!

message 644: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I just finished a book called Getting Off Pornography and the End of Masculinity by Robert Jensen. It was really tough to read because I hadn't realized how awful our society still is when it comes to, as he calls it, "woman hating."

message 645: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I finished reading Tom Rob Smith's Child 44, which was pretty interesting. Dunno what book to read next, will probably re-read something slim from my bookshelf since I'm studying at the moment =(

message 646: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Just finished Three Junes, it was decent but confusing I wouldn't recommend it. My chair was so comfy (and Kindle so convenient) that I started Angels & Demons
Jaime, I'll let you know how I Capture the Castle goes, so far its good but I'm reading it before bed and can't seem to keep my eyes open.

message 647: by Hollis (new)

Hollis Williams (hdow) | 7 comments I'm reading Creation A Novel by Gore Vidal. I'm really enjoying it although Vidal doesn't seem to be that popular around here for some reason.

message 648: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I've started reading Kate Mosse's Sepulchre and am absolutely loving it so far =D

message 649: by Janet (new)

Janet Sorry...I know I am a little late but I LOVED Go Ask Alice. Did you know there is another one out that her daughter or someone wrote? I'm really interested in reading that.
I am going to start reading Angels and Demons next. I started it on a road trip, my boyfriend and I got it on my iPod but never finished it! I am just going to read it now instead! Haha.

message 650: by Mike The Pirate (new)

Mike The Pirate | 2 comments I just finished reading Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce, but now I'm back to my class readings. This week its What Love Got to Do With It, by Denise Brenan, and Decline and Fall, by Evelyn Waugh.
