C.K. Dawn (ckdawn) | 2 comments I recently finished The Beautiful Ones (Prequel) by Lori Brighton and will start The Chosen Ones (The Beautiful Ones) by Lori Brighton soon. I'm liking what I've read so far.

Marcia Wilson | 15 comments Reading (for the fourth time) the entire "Winged" series by LM Pruitt, waiting as patiently as possible for the next release. Every read, I find something new to love of the series. The primary lead is female, who begins her "true" life with her death. It's good vs. evil, angels vs. demons, and has sex, romance, love, and hate all wrapped into a fantastic set of books. I don't know how I found this author - but recommend her to all of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal group.

That does sound like a good series Marcia. Is the romance in the story the insta love kind? Or Is it a slow building romance?

message 2654: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Wilson | 15 comments It is not a typical romance (immediate love at first sight) where things follow a standard pattern. I would not classify it as a light, teen, or girly series. It is romantic, but also contains battle and sex scenes.

The story tells of a woman who loves two Archangels, the team of fighters she leads, and the other Archangels and their connections to Joanne, Raphael, and Michael.

There is some profanity, but connects to the scene, humor and a well-connected, long-term plot to events. Depending on your religious temperature, it could be an uneasy concept, however I consider myself Christian, and the concepts did not cause me to run screaming to the delete bin!

Pruitt is a great writer and the stories are hard to describe. I have her stored with Faith Hunter, Jeannine Frost, Anne Bishop, Kim Harrison, and definitely Laurell K Hamilton. The first chapter of the first book caught me and I keept going from there!!

Pruitt also has the Jude Magdalyn series, which is also a superb read. My only wish is that I had ALL of her books in print and ebook, as I'd buy them as paper gifts for friends that read UF!!

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished The Restorer (Graveyard Queen, #1) by Amanda Stevens and will be moving on to the second book The Kingdom (Graveyard Queen, #2) by Amanda Stevens . The books have a definite southern gothic feel to them.

I read this series and really enjoyed it. My only issue was with the ending of the third book, not how it ended per se, but with the way in which the author wrote it. hope you enjoy them!

After finishing the first book I looked up the author on the internet. She's writing three more books (there was a big gap after the third book b/c her husband died unexpectedly), don't know if that affects the third book's ending for you ?????

I'm about halfway through the second book. It's interesting and I'm curious about Amelia's past but I'm not into it as much as I was with the first book. I think it's the complete change in location and characters.

message 2663: by Elise (new)

Elise Stephens (elisestephens) | 2 comments I am almost through The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss and am liking it, though I felt the story shifted style about halfway through, it's very intriguing. Definitely more of a pure fantasy than an urban fantasy, but the magic isn't annoying. It feels like science, which I really like.

I didn't know that about her husband. How sad! I just felt like the ending of the third book was almost rushed and she was just tying up all the loose ends so she could just be done with writing the series.

Sharon Michael | 111 comments Going for a re-read. Shadows by Robin McKinley This author is sometimes good/sometimes not for me ... seems as if I either love the books or am barely able to get through the entire book, if that.

Characters in this one are particularly good and story line is urban fantasy crossed with magic, nicely done.

Sharon Michael | 111 comments Latif wrote: "I would like to read a couple of Vampire books under this genre. If anyone has any recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated."

Although I like urban fantasy I am not a particular fan of vampire books. That said, I have a couple of books on my shelves that I like very well, re-reads for me, in fact. One is by an author I often like very well, Sunshine by Robin McKinley Also two books by another author. Voodoo Dues and Vampire Blues. I just couldn't resist a nerdy vampire, complete with pocket protector!

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Im currently reading The Heartless by James Ticknor and so far i am not a fan. i was for about 10% mid way through the book. before and after that 10% has not been great. theres many typing errors, grammar errors, name errors. ect. plus the main characters is this shitty 'almost man' wo's constantly trowing a tantrum and killing people because stuff didnt go his way. he's pretty much a bully with magical powers.
the magic powers and the world are pretty cool. only good thing about the book so far.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 188 comments This is my all time favorite Genre to read but I haven't read as much as I would like this year because I'm trying to get rid of old books and get those read. That being said I need to read the latest three in Kate Daniels and Sabina Kane series. I wanted to start a book about angels so I think I'm going to pick up Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh

message 2674: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 188 comments Finished Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh I gave it four stars because I appreciated the idea even though I predicted the ending about 0 percent through the book. The second one also seems predictable so I don't know when I will pick it up.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Finished reading The Heartless by James Ticknor have to say i was not very impressed with it. the main character is absolutely terrible in pretty much all ways. totally unlikable. i dont think it was edited at all. the writer has potential though, being that i still managed to finish the book even after all the elements i disliked. magic was awesome.

currently reading Fever by Mary Beth Keane so far it hasnt been bad. i like the main character, and feel sad for her, she has had terrible luck in life. about to start reading from her 'partners' POV. not really looking forward to that. i dont want to feel sympathetic towards him in anyway..... who knows maybe i'll end up disliking him even more?

Read Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop and wasn't overly impressed so it's a toss up as to whether I'll read more in the series. For now I'm reading The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch .

You may already be familiar with them, but Lois Bujold has two books set in a world with one of the most interesting religious world settings I've read. The religious scenario is a part of the plotline and is very coherent, as well as being quite different. Both books are stand alones, although they are both set in the same world. The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) I finished The Shifter (Healing Wars, #1) by Janice Hardy and thought it was fantastic! I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

I also re-read Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee and i still love it. such a fantastic amazing book! i hadnt read it in a while and the next book World After was perfect for my challenge, besides I've been meaning to re-read Angelfall for a while. I plan on buying my own copy soon.
I also read World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee and it was fantastic, just not as fantastic as the first book :( maybe half a star less so? still makes it a 4 1/2 star read though. i jut felt like Penryn's strength's weren't shown as well in this 2ns book. still a lovable cast.
cant wait to read End of Days (Penryn & the End of Days, #3) by Susan Ee which is coming out in may!!!!! so excited!!

I read Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo which sadly wasnt as good as i had expected. high hopes fro all that praise i suppose.

now reading The Book of Deacon (The Book of Deacon, #1) by Joseph R. Lallo its alright, the main character is ...... not very bright.

started Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma , its weird and kind of makes no sense but i'm enjoying it anyways. I'm aso feeling somewhat desperate to unravel the mysteries in this book, i just wanna know!!!
lol

I like Lara Adrian as well. It is irritating to me that I did not read them in order as things get a big mixed up. But just got done with Ashes of Midnight. (Went back and read those that I skipped.)

Thud is hilarious and full of that sharp observation of human nature and the nature of others (trolls, dwarves, vampires, etc...), as well as society as a whole, that I really enjoy in Mr. Prachett.

Then I hope to also read The Sparrow for Sword and Laser book club it will be my first time reading with the group. If I can I need to finish the rest of Saga volume 3 and The Spiritglass Charade which is really good but when I got sick I couldn't type let alone hold a physical book. I'm feeling better and trying to get back into reading. My speed level went down in the process though :(. So now I read really slow.

I have read all of these except the new one you are reading. They are a tough read as there are so many characters, and more are added each book. It can get (and does get) confusing as to what is going on and where. Of course part of it is that I don't know anything about the area that the stories are set in.

The stories certainly are unique and show a great deal of imagination. I think that is what brings me back to read each one.
