was so good. It had it's funny moments and it's poignant moments and moments that just made you want to smack some angel heads together. Best of the series so far for me.I also think
is the best of this series so far, although I'm only a little over halfway through the audio. In print, I'm now reading
and enjoying the author's style.

I love big publishing days :-)

I'm about 75% done with Fortunes Pawn. I like it, but it is one of those books where you can only read 2-3 chapters at a time, then switch to something else.
I'm not a big steampunk fan either, but this is one series that I really like.

is turning out to be even better than
! I'm not liking Leo or Bruiser right now, but I am loving the addition of the Younger brothers to help Jane. I really hope they stick around for a while.
So far this year: Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
, Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block
, Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
, The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Whitaker
and currently Wash by Margaret Wrinkle
.Several are very good to great, but only #2 & 5 have even a wisp of the magical, besides the magical in a (very) good book.

I'm only up to #5, but I save these because I know I'll love them, and I don't want to read through them too quickly, lol.

I read the first 4 back to back and loved them, but had to wait almost a year for book#5. When it came out, I'd forgotten so many details. I tried to re-read, but unfortunately it did not withstand a second reading. I will be curious to know his everyone likes Black Arts. I do still want to read it,

I agree about the back-to-back reading. I used to read almost all series that way, and I think I enjoyed them more for it. It allowed me to become immersed in the world, and remember some of the little details that add to the flavor of the stories. I'm hoping to get back to that old way of reading this year, instead of jumping from series to series and never finishing any.
I actually bought
way back when it first came out, but wanted to wait until there were at least three books out so I'd have several to read in a row. I guess it's even better now that there are seven out to read.
Kindle-aholic wrote: "So...I now have

I think it takes this many books to really tell if a 'good' series is going to be something I really want to follow or not and it also gives me an idea on publishing reliability.
In this case, I actually got Skinwalker when it first came out for Kindle, as a free download ... immediately got the next two ... and have followed the series ever since.
Finished the re-read and just started

Woohooo! I love Kara. I hope this is as good as the last one, but with more Ryan. I'm jumping on this one as soon as I finish the Jane Yellowrock series.

I got 'blindsided' with one of the first fantasy series I ever read. I loved the first book, which could be read as a standalone, shortly after it was published in 1975. I discovered a sequel when it was published in 1983 and was delighted ... great continuation, but a 'cliffhanger' ...
Author died in 2007 without ever having completed the series. I am STILL thoroughly annoyed with this author but it definitely did change the way I select books, try to avoid first books in an uncompleted trilogy and first books in a series without more already published.
I also try to avoid cliffhangers and just about the only way to get a one star rating from me is for me to discover the cliffhanger ending only AFTER I have read the book!
Currently reading a A Study in Silks. I'm really struggling to finish it. It's over 500 pages and I only have about 125 to go, but I'm just not feeling the story.

I love a good cliffhanger. But to me, it's only good if the basic plot of the individual books is wrapped up, but we get some startling revelation that affects an overreaching story arc. I don't like it when a book just ends mid-plot.
That being said, I can't imagine a cliffhanger ending and the next book never even being written! Now that would be annoying, to say the least.
i thought id comment because i try only to read books in order, and i read a lot of books back to back. i have just read some richelle mead books which were great until i read the latest one which finished on a cliff hanger. i just know that by the time she has written a new book i will have read loads of other books and will have forgotten the plot grrrrr.
Which Richelle Mead series are you referring to, Jule? At least one of her series had a somewhat unsatisfactory ending for many readers but that was Mead's end to the series and there won't be any more books.
Veronica G. wrote: "Which Richelle Mead series are you referring to, Jule? I think I even own the first two in the series.
I finished
and up next is
. I may just managed my New Year's resolution to finish up some series I've already started before starting anything new. I've told myself I have to finish one series before I can start a new one. In print anyway. Audiobooks are a whole other story.
Christine wrote: "I've heard about that series and I'm torn between not wanting to waste my time and being morbidly curious about it. I think I even own the first two in the series. "I own the first book myself and have waffled back and forth on whether to read it or not for well over a year now.
i read the succubus blues (georgina kinciad) these were brilliant, very adult but there is a good story. the series i preferred to was storm born ( dark swan ) although the ending was complete ,meaning no cliff hangers it was not the ending i wanted if that makes sense. maybe there will be more written for this series. A word of warning there are just normal fae (is there such a thing as a normal fae ?) in this book not seelie and unseelie. hope this helps.
finally finished
, only took me like 3 weeks. have to say im not the biggest fan but i read the whole thing anyways - mainly cause i bought it and i heard kate elliot was meant to be a pretty awesome writer.... im not willing to give up on her yet, but i think i'll try some of her other work instead next time.now reading
which i have been looking forward to forever! and so far not too bad. i just need to get use to the Japanese words that are randomly chucked in throughout the book, alright so there not actually random, im just not use to them as of yet. i have to keep googling what they mean. lol.
Michelle wrote: "I realized that I had some Lilith St. Crow on my Kindle, so I'm reading that next!"I started one of her series years ago, but for some reason never went back to it. I think it was the Dante Valentine series. It's still on the list of series I'd like to finish someday. Someday.

I found it interesting, but will say it is probably a bit more "Victorian" in tone than strictly steampunk. I found it a very readable blend of the two, though.
