Challenge # 16: Jan 1, - Mar 31, 2014
I've never done any challenges but this looks like fun. Do I have to set a goal or just post when I finish one of the above?

Tom wrote: "I've never done any challenges but this looks like fun. Do I have to set a goal or just post when I finish one of the above?"Welcome to your first challenge! We're pretty easy going about challenges here, so you can do whatever works best for you. Some folks like to plan them out ahead of time, but I usually read whatever I want and just hope it fits a category. Then I just update as I go.
I hope you have fun with your first challenge.
Here's my list, hoping they all work. For example, not having read my choice for #2 I can only guess the world is actually at stake by the blurb on the back cover. My #3 choice has a nice picture of flames on the cover. For #4 I believe The Golden Compass counts as YA. For #6 I chose the Dresden Files collection of short stories I haven't yet read, as Harry always seems to be scraping by. Finally, for #11 I read The Hobbit many years ago (well before Goodreads, or the internet even) and this seems like a good excuse to read it again. Overall will be a lot of fun!0/13

Most folks pick a level to aim for from the start, but you can always change it later if you read more or less.
I read a lot and thought this would be easy but this is going to be HARD!...haha Here's a starting point for me because I am very mood driven for my books and couldn't imagine lining up 13. :o)Extreme: 0/13

I could do it easily if everything wasn't a series these days that leads into at least 3 books. :o)
Not 100% sure that all these books are my final choice, but I wanted to include as many things from my to-read list as possible if they (hopefully) fit the categories. I can't swear that #4 has scenes that take place in school as I haven't read it yet. And #7 has a lycanthrope character (the guy on the cover?) but reviews say he's only one of several main characters so maybe it counts? Judges opinions welcome. ;)0/13
1. The Grimoire of the Lamb and In Sea-Salt Tears both because they're so very short.
2. Urban Shaman
3. Child of Fire
4. Little Brother
5. Bloodshot
6. Timeless
7. Dead Iron
8. Every Last Drop
9. The Color of Magic
10. Unshapely Things
11. Crocodile on the Sandbank
12. The Hobbit Every time I see a commercial for Desolation of Smaug, I think 'I have to read The Hobbit again'.
13. Midnight Riot

Wow, Greg! I'm impressed. I've barely started my new book for the year, and you're already done with one.
I hope you enjoy A Kiss Before the Apocalypse. I just finished Walking In the Midst of Fire and it was the best in the series so far, in my opinion.
Brandy wrote: "This is an awesome challenge! I need to spend a little time with it to map out my reads."I didn't commit to my reads but definitely had to map out to see how it could be done first. that took a lot longer than I expected. Totally doable for me if I can stop myself from getting into a series that leads me into 6 other books...haha

Lol, thanks, but it was the novella choice, which only took me around two hours to read or so. The rest will be a bit more of an investment. I am going to see what I can do before classes start up in 10 days though, so maybe I'll get through a few more by then. OF course, I see you've put together a couple of other yearly challenges too which I have yet to look at. Thank you for so much effort in putting these together, they are great. :)

I have a friend who was only so-so on the VA series but she LOVES the spin-off Bloodlines series and she's begging me to read it. So I feel like I need to start with VA first - something to do my total inability to read a series out of order, including spin-offs.

Loved Vampire Academy but am just "meh" on Bloodlines. Still reading it, though. I agree that it feels wrong to read series or their spin-offs out of order!

I'm reading the Alpha & Omega series without reading Mercy Thompson. I have the bloodlines TBR'd but didn't realize it was a VA spinoff. I only dabble in YA and VA seems like such a big YA commitment.

I have a soft spot for Mercy as it was one of the first UF series I read and the first one that I really loved. You don't have to read it before Alpha & Omega, but you have to read it.
I believe i passed on it because of the length of the series. Im sure I'll get ro it eventually. I've only been reading for a couple of years and there are so many great books to get to. :)

We’re starting a new year, so we’re going to try a new format for our quarterly challenge. You may still choose to read as many or as few categories as you like.
◆As always, all formats are accepted (print, ebook, audio) and rereads are fine as long as you read the entire book and not just skim it.
◆Any genre is acceptable unless specifically stated otherwise.
◆You can change your list or level at any time or just make it up as you go along.
This challenge is based on a list of Popular New Year’s Resolutions from http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/New...
