What are you reading?

On audio, I've just started

I agree with you on both of these. I especially like the Jane Yellowrock series on audio. I have the next one pre-ordered at audible.

Ohh! I read the Mistress of the Art of Death and really enjoyed it. So much so that I have several of her other books. Hope you enjoy it:)

I also think

In print, I'm now reading

Two new yearly challenges have been added.

Need to get ready for Tuesday - lots of good books are out that day.

Fortunes Pawn is today's daily deal and Kindle it looked good so I picked it up - let me know what you think.
Loved Shadowdance for someone who is not really a fan of steampunk with her books I do seem to forget that lol

I love big publishing days :-)

I'm about 75% done with Fortunes Pawn. I like it, but it is one of those books where you can only read 2-3 chapters at a time, then switch to something else.
I'm not a big steampunk fan either, but this is one series that I really like.

Oooooo!!! Hadn't kept track. Excitement!!!

Several are very good to great, but only #2 & 5 have even a wisp of the magical, besides the magical in a (very) good book.

I'm only up to #5, but I save these because I know I'll love them, and I don't want to read through them too quickly, lol.

I've never heard of any of those but Kara Gillian, but they all sound good. I definitely have to check out the one set during the Roaring Twenties!

I'm nearly finished with the re-read of "Rival" and should finish the re-read of "Trade" today as well ... then on to Black Arts!

This is the type of series, at least IMO that is better to read straight through. I read the first 4 back to back and loved them, but had to wait almost a year for book#5. When it came out, I'd forgotten so many details. I tried to re-read, but unfortunately it did not withstand a second reading. I will be curious to know his everyone likes Black Arts. I do still want to read it,

I agree about the back-to-back reading. I used to read almost all series that way, and I think I enjoyed them more for it. It allowed me to become immersed in the world, and remember some of the little details that add to the flavor of the stories. I'm hoping to get back to that old way of reading this year, instead of jumping from series to series and never finishing any.
I actually bought

Fury of the Demon please!

I try not to start series until at least three books have been written. I think it takes this many books to really tell if a 'good' series is going to be something I really want to follow or not and it also gives me an idea on publishing reliability.
In this case, I actually got Skinwalker when it first came out for Kindle, as a free download ... immediately got the next two ... and have followed the series ever since.
Finished the re-read and just started

It's on! Fury of the Demon.

Woohooo! I love Kara. I hope this is as good as the last one, but with more Ryan. I'm jumping on this one as soon as I finish the Jane Yellowrock series.

That's exactly my thinking, too. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I got 'blindsided' with one of the first fantasy series I ever read. I loved the first book, which could be read as a standalone, shortly after it was published in 1975. I discovered a sequel when it was published in 1983 and was delighted ... great continuation, but a 'cliffhanger' ...
Author died in 2007 without ever having completed the series. I am STILL thoroughly annoyed with this author but it definitely did change the way I select books, try to avoid first books in an uncompleted trilogy and first books in a series without more already published.
I also try to avoid cliffhangers and just about the only way to get a one star rating from me is for me to discover the cliffhanger ending only AFTER I have read the book!

I love a good cliffhanger. But to me, it's only good if the basic plot of the individual books is wrapped up, but we get some startling revelation that affects an overreaching story arc. I don't like it when a book just ends mid-plot.
That being said, I can't imagine a cliffhanger ending and the next book never even being written! Now that would be annoying, to say the least.

I've heard about that series and I'm torn between not wanting to waste my time and being morbidly curious about it. I think I even own the first two in the series.

I own the first book myself and have waffled back and forth on whether to read it or not for well over a year now.

now reading

I started one of her series years ago, but for some reason never went back to it. I think it was the Dante Valentine series. It's still on the list of series I'd like to finish someday. Someday.

I found it interesting, but will say it is probably a bit more "Victorian" in tone than strictly steampunk. I found it a very readable blend of the two, though.
