Jalilah I am half way into The Child Thief by Brom by Brom and finding it heartbreaking, terrifying and beautiful all at the same time. It is a very dark retelling of Peter Pan. I love the illustrations with it!

I read that one a while ago. It was such a different take on the whole Peter Pan thing.

I recently tried Krampus by Brom , his take on Santa, but couldn't finish it, it was too bizarre.

I actually bought Slashback (Cal Leandros, #8) by Rob Thurman for my Kindle and I rarely do that, preferring to buy the hard copy if I buy a book at all, just so I could read it as soon as possible. I have a Niko/Cal addiction.

I am now reading The House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton .

I'm also hoping to get Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson #7) by Patricia Briggs today or tomorrow in the mail, but I'm not up-to-date in my Cal & Niko reading...

Mine just arrived in the mail yesterday. Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs and Slashback (Cal Leandros, #8) by Rob Thurman together in one box! It was so tempting to start reading Slashback right away, but I'm making myself finish the two books I already have going first.

I don't have that kind of self control with a book I have been waiting a long time for :)

Thanks Christine. Yes, they are first time reads. I am pretty new to UF so there are many great series in store for me.

message 1683: by Jo Anne (new)

Jo Anne | 22 comments Hi,

Right now I am reading Wicked a YA. Interesting story but it reminds me of another author's YA that I read.
I'm reading YA because I am trying to write a YA actually I want to write a New Generation, college age to about 25. I belong to RWA and to the Charlotte chapter. Its great we have workshops once a month. Check out our website and come visit.

I read paranormal, supernatural, mysteries all with Romance.. I finished Frost Bone on the 6th. I liked it and was sorry that i read it so quickly. Briggs' books are keeper and maybe in a few years I may read them again. Probably will. After a while you forget what happened in the earlier books.
There are so many authors I am waiting for, its great.
I am really behind in my reading I must have at least 110 books to read between the Sony, Nook, and Ipadand ones I've bought. I can't die until I've read all the books. What's cool too is that my husband and I share books. Especially fantasy.

message 1684: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniemark) Finished Slashback (Cal Leandros, #8) by Rob Thurman . I knew I'd love this one!

Started Goblin Quest (Jig the Goblin, #1) by Jim C. Hines . It's got the best reference to LOTR in it I've seen in awhile.

Paula (pauldajo) I couldn't finish A Modern Witch. The story had no plot to speak of and was boring. I'll try Storm Born.

message 1696: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I'm reading The Learning Tree by Gordon Parks , which isn't UF, it's historical fiction set in the 1920's in Kansas. Published in 1963, many reviewers here compare it to To Kill a Mockingbird, but this has a black protagonist and mostly black characters.

Carly (dawnsio_ar_y_dibyn) | 29 comments I'm reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and loving it. I avoided it for ages because I haven't had great luck with Gaiman's other books, but now I'm seeing why it comes so highly recommended. It really captures that sense of wonder that good world-within-world series are imbued with, as well as quite a few hilarious moments.

It was only when I read Neverwhere that I started to "get" why Gaiman is so popular. I also had not liked his other book that much.
