I can't wait to start this series.

Kait Carson | 182 comments Just finished Cat of the Century Cat of the Century (Mrs. Murphy, #18) by Rita Mae Brown I enjoyed it because I love the series, but I'm looking forward to the next one. This one seemed a little forced. Still, it was fun to visit old friends.

message 3954: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Carrot Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #10) by Joanne Fluke . I decided to ignore all the things that irk me about Hannah, so I actually enjoyed the story ;)

message 3955: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 38 comments I just finished reading Larceny and Lace by Annette Blair and I loved it. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

message 3956: by Erin (new)

Erin Wharton I just finished reading Snipped in the Bud, by Kate Collins.

message 3957: by Normandy (last edited Feb 12, 2012 07:25AM) (new)

Normandy (bookwitch69) I'm not sure if these fit in this category. I think they do. I love Juliet Blackwell and I have read Secondhand Spirits and a A Cast-Off Coven

message 3958: by Nola (new)

Nola Myer | 21 comments I just finished a run of about five cozies, but the only ones I really liked were Dead Bolt (A Haunted Home Renovation Mystery #2) by Juliet Blackwell and If Fried Chicken Could Fly by Paige Shelton . The fried chicken book was one the best I've read in a long time. I was surprised by its paranormal element but it was a good surprise.

message 3959: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Hickory Smoked Homicide (Memphis Barbeque Mystery #3) by Riley Adams and to me it's a 2* "meh" read. I thought the denoument was ridiculous.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Old Haunts (Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, #3) by E.J. Copperman and thought it was a very good read. Some great twists and I love the main characters snarky humour. :)

message 3961: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Just finished Quickstep to Murder (A Ballroom Dance Mystery #1) by Ella Barrick . It was pretty good.

message 3962: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Suspicious Minds A Novel (Squeaky Clean Mystery, #2) by Christy Barritt . I enjoyed it, although I didn't remember the character being quite so immature in the first book.

message 3963: by Emma (new)

Emma | 109 comments I just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (A Flavia de Luce Mystery, #1) by Alan Bradley and loved it! I had heard many bad reviews and some good before I read it so I was a little weary. But I ended up falling in love with Flavia and her precocious yet brilliant personality. The mystery itself wasn't earth shattering but the workings of the family and the setting were enought to keep me interested. So glad it was a book I owned! I immediately went to the library to check out the second one and it's next on my list after I finish my current read, Valentine Murder.

I was not into Flavia the character for some reason but a lot of others were. I think if you liked her most ended up really liking the book.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished listening to The House of Silk A Sherlock Holmes Novel by Anthony Horowitz . tthhpphhttt... total disappointment. The author had, in my opinion, zero idea of who Sherlock Holmes or Watson were. Not at all true to the original.

message 3966: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I finished Lye in Wait last night and really liked it!

message 3967: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments I just finished Death of a Cozy Writer (A St. Just Mystery #1) by G.M. Malliet and thought it was okay. I really like British cozies, but found myself bored out of my mind here until the murder finally occurred halfway through the book. Then things really got a lot more interesting, and it was great up until the disappointing ending. Oh, well. :P

message 3968: by Donita (new)

Donita I agree - the authors in the story kept talking about the fact that the murder needed to occur by page 20, at the latest by page 70, but this murder didn't occur until after page 100 - but still a cute story when it got going.

message 3969: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading In the Bleak Midwinter. This book was a nice cozy mystery. I liked the priest and the cop.

message 3970: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Finished Chili Con Corpses (A Supper Club Mystery, #3) by J.B. Stanley last night. It's ok, although I suffered from not reading the previous two first. I'll be going back to read them.

I, on the other hand, loved the author's wry humor and thought the play on cozy mysteries was LOL.

message 3972: by Susan Jo (new)

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) I just finished The Anatomist's Apprentice by Tessa Harris. Had a quirky finish but was very good. Definitely a cozy.

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Finished Evan's Gate last night.

message 3974: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (sevenmoonlight) | 138 comments I just finished Affairs of Steak (A White House Chef Mystery #5) by Julie Hyzy Affairs of Steak and enjoyed it. Possibly the best in the series yet!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Cake on a Hot Tin Roof by Jacklyn Brady . Not as good as the first. I want someone to explain to me why more than a couple of authors seem to think it's ok for a main character's friends/family/coworkers to be rude and hostile to them? It's really off-putting to me.

message 3976: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Finished Candy Apple Dead (A Candy Shop Mystery, #1) by Sammi Carter It was ok.

That irritates me too. I *think* they're trying to build conflict in the story, but it's just not a good way to do it. Also bad is the main character treating their friends and family that way - which I've also seen.

message 3988: by Erin (new)

Erin Wharton I just got done reading Acts of Violets, by Kate Collins. I am really enjoying The Flower shop mystery books. They are a fun read.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finish reading India Black (Madam of Espionage, #1) by Carol K. Carr and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't think I'd call it a mystery in the true sense of the word, but I found it a truly entertaining read.

message 3990: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (procrastisarah) | 7 comments I just finished Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor, and A Flaw in the Blood by Stephanie Barron. I found them really enojoyable. The idea of Jane Austen as a 'detective' was pretty good

Not Sue but I am reading the Constable Evans series and really enjoying it. I have read the first 6 and have Evan's Gate Evan's Gate (Constable Evans Mysteries #8) by Rhys Bowen as my next read. (I'm skipping Evan Only Knows which is set away from Llanfair and has been difficult to find.)
I am a fan of Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series and read 8 of the Molly Murphy's before reading her first mystery series. Great characters and locale. She does a good job of putting you in the village among the people.

I'm a huge fan of Rhys Bowen's as well. I've only read 3 of the Molly Murphy books, but I love them as well.

You'll find several familiar names under best mystery as well. Plus they have a new category for historical mysteries. The nominees are posted at www.malicedomestic.org/agathaawards.html

message 4000: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Buried in a Book by Lucy Arlington this morning. I was really looking forward to reading this one as I had read many excellent reviews, but I wasn't crazy about it. It was just OK and I won't continue on with the series.
