Just finished Cat of the Century
I enjoyed it because I love the series, but I'm looking forward to the next one. This one seemed a little forced. Still, it was fun to visit old friends.
Just finished
. I decided to ignore all the things that irk me about Hannah, so I actually enjoyed the story ;)
I just finished reading Larceny and Lace by Annette Blair and I loved it. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I'm not sure if these fit in this category. I think they do. I love Juliet Blackwell and I have read Secondhand Spirits and a A Cast-Off Coven
I just finished a run of about five cozies, but the only ones I really liked were
and
. The fried chicken book was one the best I've read in a long time. I was surprised by its paranormal element but it was a good surprise.
Just finished
and thought it was a very good read. Some great twists and I love the main characters snarky humour. :)
Just finished
. I enjoyed it, although I didn't remember the character being quite so immature in the first book.
I just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
and loved it! I had heard many bad reviews and some good before I read it so I was a little weary. But I ended up falling in love with Flavia and her precocious yet brilliant personality. The mystery itself wasn't earth shattering but the workings of the family and the setting were enought to keep me interested. So glad it was a book I owned! I immediately went to the library to check out the second one and it's next on my list after I finish my current read, Valentine Murder.
Emma wrote: "I just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

I just finished listening to
. tthhpphhttt... total disappointment. The author had, in my opinion, zero idea of who Sherlock Holmes or Watson were. Not at all true to the original.
I just finished
and thought it was okay. I really like British cozies, but found myself bored out of my mind here until the murder finally occurred halfway through the book. Then things really got a lot more interesting, and it was great up until the disappointing ending. Oh, well. :P
I agree - the authors in the story kept talking about the fact that the murder needed to occur by page 20, at the latest by page 70, but this murder didn't occur until after page 100 - but still a cute story when it got going.
I finished reading In the Bleak Midwinter. This book was a nice cozy mystery. I liked the priest and the cop.
Finished
last night. It's ok, although I suffered from not reading the previous two first. I'll be going back to read them.
Hannah wrote: "I just finished

I just finished The Anatomist's Apprentice by Tessa Harris. Had a quirky finish but was very good. Definitely a cozy.
Just finished
. Not as good as the first. I want someone to explain to me why more than a couple of authors seem to think it's ok for a main character's friends/family/coworkers to be rude and hostile to them? It's really off-putting to me.
Jennifer E. wrote: "Just finished

I *think* they're trying to build conflict in the story, but it's just not a good way to do it. Also bad is the main character treating their friends and family that way - which I've also seen.

Affairs of Steak and enjoyed it. Possibly the best in the series yet!"I agree! Really liked this one!
Jennifer E. wrote: "Just finished

I've just finished It Takes a Witch
. The first part was a first slow but a good reading in the end. I look forward to the second one in October.

This is actually the first one in this series that I've read - now I need to find the rest and start at the beginning.
Jennifer E. wrote: "Just finished

I just finished The Forgotten Affairs of Youth by Alexander McCall Smith and it was enjoyable, I love Isabelle Dalhousie. chuckle.
Yesterday I finished
-this is a first in the series - I really enjoyed it!
Great characters and Im looking to the 2nd one coming out later this year.
I just got done reading Acts of Violets, by Kate Collins. I am really enjoying The Flower shop mystery books. They are a fun read.
I just finish reading
and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't think I'd call it a mystery in the true sense of the word, but I found it a truly entertaining read.
I just finished Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor, and A Flaw in the Blood by Stephanie Barron. I found them really enojoyable. The idea of Jane Austen as a 'detective' was pretty good

Not Sue but I am reading the Constable Evans series and really enjoying it. I have read the first 6 and have Evan's Gate
as my next read. (I'm skipping Evan Only Knows which is set away from Llanfair and has been difficult to find.) I am a fan of Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series and read 8 of the Molly Murphy's before reading her first mystery series. Great characters and locale. She does a good job of putting you in the village among the people.

Me too Melissa!

I'm a huge fan of Rhys Bowen's as well. I've only read 3 of the Molly Murphy books, but I love them as well.
The Agatha award nominations were announced and Dire Threads, Tempest in the Tea Leaves and Who Do, Voodoo? were all nominated for best first mystery. You'll find several familiar names under best mystery as well. Plus they have a new category for historical mysteries. The nominees are posted at www.malicedomestic.org/agathaawards.html
