Rosemary | 78 comments I just finished Espresso Shot Espresso Shot (Coffeehouse Mystery, #7) by Cleo Coyle It was a fun read. And the cookie recipes look delicous!

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments I am not sure if this is the right "discussion group" to ask this question, but has anyone else noticed an increase in the "culinary mystery" group? Also when reading these does anyone else get hungry? *LOL* Whenever I read Diane Mott Davidson I have this craving for Expresso even though I hate Espresso. And whenever I read about Hannah Swenson I want to eat cookies.

I love culinary mysteries, and yes, I get the munchies when I read them. I want to drink tea and eat tea sandwiches and scones when reading Laura Childs' Tea Shop books, and Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse series makes me want to go to Starbucks!

The Hannah Swensen books definitely make me hungry and I've tried some of the recipes in those books, along with the brownie recipe in Diane Mott Davidson's Dying for Chocolate (Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, Book 2) by Diane Mott Davidson , and the Blonde Bombshell cupcakes in Jenn McKinlay's Sprinkle with Murder (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay ! There are some great sounding recipes in the Donut Shop series books, too.

Sherry | 137 comments I just finished The Wedding Shawl (A Seaside Knitters Mystery, #5) by Sally Goldenbaum . I didn't like the first chapter, but after that it was very good, though there was a lot of sadness in it. There were also some new characters, and more fleshing out of characters who had only been mentioned in previous books, which I think will provide some good subject matter for future books in this series.

message 2556: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished Night of the Living Dandelion (A Flower Shop Mystery, #11) by Kate Collins . The story was OK, but cousin Jillian was even more annoying than Abby.

message 2557: by Misty (new)

Misty I just finished Mistletoe Murder. It's the first book in the Lucy Stone series. I enjoyed it, but they other ones I've read were better. This one did get better as it went along, but it was pretty cheesy in spots. It was fun to read how the series began. Now I need to see if I can get book 5 from the library.

Actually, Jillian was so over the top in this one that she didn't really annoy me. I thought she was actually kind of funny!

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Murder under Cover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #4) by Kate Carlisle . Good book!

message 2560: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments Just finished Alpine for You (Passport to Peril, #1) by Maddy Hunter ! I had previously read the 5th book in the series, G'Day to Die, because my library never has the complete series of anything (not even the first book in the series, usually) and now I wonder why I didn't look up the rest of the series earlier. A very enjoyable read; loved the holiday travel theme and the hilarious hotel disasters.

message 2561: by Mollie (new)

Mollie (molliebee) | 53 comments Just finished Murder with Peacocks by Donna Andrews. Laughed out loud throughout the book. It was very funny.

message 2562: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments Mollie, that sounds like a good one. I need a laugh now. I just finished Carol Higgins Clark's Mobbed
Mobbed A Regan Reilly Mystery by Carol Higgins Clark which I had mixed feeligs about.

I am very anxious to try some of the new cat mysteries people have said were good. I was a little leary about the Magical Cats one because I wondered if it was more YA. But some of you read it, so it's on my to buy list.

message 2563: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (sevenmoonlight) | 138 comments I just finished Old Loves Die Hard (Mac Faraday Mystery #2) by Lauren Carr Old Loves Die Hard. I like how there is a bit of a police detective air to it while still being a cozy.

I really enjoyed Curiosity Thrilled the Cat. I wouldn't consider it YA.

message 2566: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments I just finished Behold, Here's Poison by Georgette Heyer. It's a change of pace, lots of clever repartee and red herrings. I figured out some of the mystery but there's a twist at the end that I did not anticipate.

message 2567: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Bradford (nlb1050) | 77 comments I need to quit reading this as I am adding so many books to my wish list for Kindle and of course doing "I want to read this book on Kindle".

I love almost all types of Cozies. the only ones I don't like are those that have animals that talk, just can't stand those.

message 2568: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Nancy I feel your pain. I have learned to "look away" . When I first started in this group I added a ton of books and ended up adding 100 cozy series to my tbr pile. Over the past year(plus) I have read the first book in each of them and whittled down my favorites to 25-30 and now plan to read more of them, but I refuse to add any new series UNLESS it is mentioned over and over as really good. This group is addicting!

message 2569: by Robin (new)

Robin Allen I just finished The Quiche of Death by M.C. Beaton. This was my first Beaton book, and the book that introduces Agatha Raisin. Her writing style is very efficient, almost abrupt. But it moved fast and the mystery was pretty good.

message 2570: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Bradford (nlb1050) | 77 comments Robin, I love the MC Beaton books, both the Agatha's and Hamish.

message 2571: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 232 comments went back a re-read parts of FM for Murder by Goodreads Author Patricia Rockwell and laughed a lot. It was fun.

message 2572: by Donna (new)

Donna | 27 comments I read Grace Under Pressure (Manor of Murder, #1) by Julie Hyzy . I didn't get into it until the last third of the book, then I didn't want to put it down. Can hardly wait to read the next in the series.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I struggled to get through and finish Lost and Fondue (Cheese Shop Mystery, #2) by Avery Aames but I think it was just me in a reading slump, and not a reflection of the story at all. Although it sometimes feels like she's trying to sell me cheese. :)

message 2574: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Sometimes I think the titles are so clever, it's hard for books to live up to them!

Finished Longshot by Dick Francis yesterday. Really liked this one, and have already started another by him, Shattered, which combines horse racing with glass blowing. Will be interesting to see how that comes together!

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 308 comments I just finished A Nice Class of Corpse by Simon Brett and really enjoyed it. I went to the library today and took out another Mrs Pargeter book- Mrs, Presumed Dead by Simon Brett . I hope it's as good.

message 2577: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 44 comments I just Finished Dead Man's Tale by Doss. This is his newest, or his next to the newest book, in the series. And he seems to have picked up his game since Widow's Revenge.
Charlie Moon, worried about the economy and his farm, agrees to prevent a stock investors predicted death.
Daisy is back with her wise-cracking remarks and thoughts, his neice is back with her unrequited love ,and Scott Parris is back with his questions and doubts about his spirituality. I love how Doss, while examining new age and Native American beliefs, while humorously presented ,always gives the reader the option of believing or not believing the characters.

message 2578: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished Classified as Murder (Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #2) by Miranda James and enjoyed it much more than the first book! Can't wait for book #3 ;)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished last night A Pug's Tale by Alison Pace It was so cute; a delightful read!!

message 2581: by Susan (new)

Susan I finished Be Careful What You Wish For this morning. Amber Fox is quite a character and the plotting and writing in this book are better than the first one in the series. I do recommend reading The Fashion Police first as Amber has a complicated love life that will be clearer if you read these books in order.

Sherry | 137 comments Nancy wrote: "Just finished Deadly Appraisal by Jane Cleland and really enjoyed it. Now I need to get the rest of this series."

I really enjoy this series, and have the two latest,

Silent Auction (Josie Prescott, #5) by Jane K. Cleland and Deadly Threads (Josie Prescott, #6) by Jane K. Cleland in my TBR bag right now.

message 2584: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments Finished Death at Wentwater Court A Daisy Dalrymple Mystery (Daisy Dalrymple, #1) by Carola Dunn last night and really enjoyed it! There are some similarities to Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series, so fans of that will probably like this one, too. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series, The Winter Garden Mystery.

message 2585: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I just finished Chapter and Hearse (A Booktown Mystery, #4) by Lorna Barrett and I thought it was just o.k. I don't know, I have enjoyed the other books in this series so far, but the latest one just didn't do it for me;I found Tricia to be really annoying and nosey and I couldn't help but wonder how she could have so many male admirers.I'll probably give the next installment a try but I'm not quite sure-the preview to "A Crafty Killing" seemed more interesting.

message 2586: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Recently finished Flowerbed of State (A White House Gardener Mystery) by Dorothy St. James Murder under Cover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #4) by Kate Carlisle and Mind Your Own Beeswax (Queen Bee Mystery, #2) by Hannah Reed . Wasn't sure if I'd like Flowerbed because I'm not into the presidential thing too much (although I enjoy the fact that it's set in DC and it"s familiar to me) but it was pretty good. Murder Under Cover was good. Wasn't too sure I could take Beeswax because I didn't even finish the first in that series but this wasn't quite as bad. I did finish it but the bullet points are still annoying and I don't like that Story has so many antagonists. The best book I've read lately is Swift Justice by Laura DiSilverio . Got this from the library because I liked Lila Dare's Southern Beauty Shop mysteries and found out she was also Laura DiSilverio. This was a great book and I look forward to the next in the series.

Finished Shattered by Dick Francis last night and really liked it. Quite the explosive ending!

message 2590: by ❂ Murder by Death (last edited May 27, 2011 12:30AM) (new)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I finished up Just Plain Pickled to Death (Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery, #4) by Tamar Myers today. This was the last book I needed to read for both my A-Z character and title challenges. I had started reading this series years ago and with this one I remember why I stopped. :) Her wailing is annoying as is her need to call her man "pooky bear". *gag*. Good storyline though.

I only read a few of the Magdalena Yoder books, precisely because of her incessant "wailing"! I'd have to choke someone like her in real life!

message 2592: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished The Treacherous Teddy (A Bear Collector's Mystery, #5) by John J. Lamb and Back on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber . Both were pretty good.

That's a great series. Great laugh out loud moments.

message 2594: by Chris (new)

Chris I just finished The Long Quiche Goodbye. I did finish it but unfortunately didn't enjoy it and won't be reading the next in the series. If I could I would have reached through my nook screen and smacked the main character. She was annoying and too emotional. Also, rather juvenile when it came to the guy she was all gaga over. I actually liked the cop investigating the murder who had gone to school with her. But I ended up thinking he was too good for her. And the whole thing with her best friend was over the top. Sure there was something that the best friend wasn't ready to tell her but the friend's whole behavior, avoidance and not speaking to her, was IMO borderline psycho. There's actually more stuff but I don't want to go on and on. This is a rarity I'm usually not this disappointed in a book.

message 2595: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy (plantwoman) I just finished Mourning Gloria by Susan Wittig Albert. It's the 19th entry in the China Bayles series, one that I always enjoy reading. One of the most interesting aspects of the series, for me, is the herbal lore which Albert weaves into her stories, and she usually includes some yummy-sounding recipes using herbs, as well. Albert is an experienced writer of mysteries who knows how to keep those pages turning. This is one of the most fun cozy series to read.

Finished Pretty Poison by Joyce and Jim Lavene late last night. Pretty good mystery. I would probably pick up book two in the series if I happened across it.

I just finished reading it too and really liked it (it could also be a "book about books").

I've got the first of the Trailer Park series coming at the library ( thank you for letting me know about it).

Karin Kaufman | 20 comments Donna wrote: I want to drink tea and eat tea sandwiches and scones when reading Laura Childs' Tea Shop books

Childs' Tea Shop books have the same effect on me. Half way through one of them, I can go on a tea-making frenzy--always brewing the tea properly, of course (no tea bags). The brewing ritual is part of the fun.

message 2600: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished Absolutely, Positively (Lucy Valentine, #3) by Heather Webber yesterday and I didn't want it to end! For me, it was the best installment in the whole series.I love the way Lucy has evolved as a character and matured through all her adventures. I was sad to learn that there won't be any more books about Lucy but there's going to be a new Witchcraft series by Heather, writing as Heather Blake. I' m really looking forward to it!
