We had co employee who set the microwave on fire and left the room went in her office and closed the door saying loudly It stinks in here. What a princess she always was.

I am slowly working my way through both the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series in audio books between other books. I think I am savoring them by spreading them out. A co-worker has both series so am freeloading :-)

LOL Agatha just unplugged it and carried it out to her backyard. She shrugged it off. She had microwaved a foil dish for 45 mins.

I read the first one in the Amelia Peabody series but it was kind of slow going. I started the 2nd one and couldn't get passed the part where they had left their young son for quite awhile (how could anyone do that). Always wondered if they got better as the series went along.

Kimmie, to be honest, I couldn't get into the Amelia Peabody either. i tried the first one twice and never got into it. Peters other books though are really good. My favorite is The Love Talker.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Scoop to Kill by Wendy Lyn Watson. I liked this second book in the series - but probably not as much as the first one. The plot was good, although I guessed the final crime and whodunit about midway through. I found all the secondary characters very vivid and felt their backgrounds were expanded from the first book, but I didn't feel the same way about the main character, Tully. Perhaps that was why this one didn't get 4 stars from me. Still, I will look for the next book and see what happens.

Caroline | 661 comments Finished Force of Habit (A Falcone & Driscoll Investigation) by Alice Loweecey and loved it. Also finished Angel's Verdict (Beaufort & Company, #4) by Mary Stanton I really enjoy the Beaufort & Company series. Now on to Killer on a Hot Tin Roof by Livia J. Washburn

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments I just finished DEATH, BONES, and STATELY HOMES by Valeries S. Malmont. As I read books all out of order, I'm way behind on older series and ahead on the new.

I love the Agatha Raisin series, too, although she is hard to take sometimes. As well, I'm a big fan of the Pennyfoot Hotel series mentioned above. I have the newest one here to read next.

I enjoyed Valerie Malmont's books and regret that she didn't write more. Don't know if publisher wasn't up for it or what.

The books are just as fun. The whole series of Hildegard Withers was written for the actress that is in the movies. Having seen the movies too, I get the picture of the actress in my head while I read.

A Murder is Announced is one of my TOP 3 Agatha Christie murders! Definitely my favorite Miss Marple. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Buttercream Bump Off by Jenn McKinlay a couple of days ago. This was a great second book in the series - I enjoyed the mystery quite a bit and although I guessed who did it when he was first introduced, I still enjoyed the ride. The characters are getting better and I like the subtle change in 'mom'. I'm looking forward to the next in the series and happy that I won't have to wait too long.

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished The Cat, the Professor and the Poison (Cats in Trouble Mysteries) by Leann Sweeney yesterday. It was a highly enjoyable read, especially for me because I adore cats. The plot was interesting and original and the characters start developing nicely.I particularly loved the new bond forming between Jillian, the protagonist cat quilter, and her stepdaughter, Kara.I'm eager to read more about those characters-I love reading about strong independent females.

message 2079: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Fruit of All Evil by Paige Shelton and liked it okay. She is a new to me author. One thing that bothered me is I didn't really get a sense of place, neither SC nor the farmer's market. I'd still read another in the series though.

I Loved Absolutely, Positively and can't wait for the next one. I found "Night" a little hard to get into but maybe it was because I kept being intrupted by my children. :o)

message 2086: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Town In a Lobster Stew by B.B. Haywood and found it was okay. It just didn't thrill me and actually took me a second "push" to finish it as I stalled out after reading the first part and went on to other books then came back to it. I also just finished Backstage Stuff (Jane Wheel Mysteries) by Sharon Fiffer and enjoyed that one a lot more. Lobster Stew is # 2 in the Candy Holliday series so I'm hoping it will get better. Backstage Stuff is about the fifth or sixth book in the Jane Wheel series and I really enjoy that so this was a good read.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Murder Your Darlings: Algonquin Round Table Mystery by J.J. Murphy. I was really looking forward to this one, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The writing seemed a bit manic to me, as if it were more important to the author to pack in the witticisms (which were really good, btw) than it was to write a thoughtful story. The result felt a bit shallow to me - more shallow than the time/place called for. I didn't hate the book, but I found myself skimming over enough of it that I'm not sure if I'll read the next one or not. Will depend on the size of my TBR pile I suppose. :)

I didn't really like the first book, Town in a Blueberry Jam, very much. But, figuring it was the author's first book I thought I'd give the second a try since it was at the library. I don't think I would have bought the book, though. Oh well, I'll push it further down the stack.

Caroline,
My mom is actually friends with and lives close by Valerie Malmont. She is in her 80s now. Her husband was just killed in a car accident a couple of weeks or so ago. Really has nothing to do with the series, but I thought i'd share. :)

(((Deborah))) I know what a difficult time this can be. I had to put down my cat (age 20) a few years ago and still miss her.

Finished Snipped in the Bud before bed last night. I have more in this series on the TBR shelf, but need a break from them. Now reading a non-cozy won from GR.

Nell | 1223 comments I just finished Love is Murder Love is Murder (Daytime Mystery, #1) by Linda Palmer . The mystery setting is a daytime drama and the main character is the show's head writer. Well developed characters and a good mystery, even though it is a bit soap opera-ish and I figured out who the murderer was. Really liked it and enjoyed the author's writing style.

message 2100: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 308 comments I just finished listening to The Cat Who Dropped a Bombshell. Thank goodness I listen in the car while running errands. A cast of thousands (it feels like) who all adore our protagonist (Quilleran) simply because he's the richest man in the country (and tell him so-over and over and over), and a "mystery" that probably takes up about four pages out of the book. No real clues, no detecting, nothing happening except the Pickax celebration which is told in excrutiating detail. Boy, I'm glad I got this one as a freebie (a buy three get one free deal)!
