What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
I finished
and I was disappointed. I have enjoyed the main character but in this one I just didn't like some of the choices she made in regard to her family. I think I will try the next one and see if it gets better.
I seem to be doing this in two's lately. Just finished The Perfect Shot by Gemma Halliday. This book was originally scheduled to come out in September, but was then cancelled. Checking her website I found she changed publishers, and Perfect Shot was only released on Kindle. It was a cute story - my rant about e-edition errors notwithstanding - a fast, fun read with a happy ending.I also finished Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen. A bit of a slow start, but I liked it quite a bit and am ordering the next in the series.
I have Fiber and Brimstone by Laura Childs, and also Bone Appetit, byCarolyn Haines. Don't know which to read first?

Ooh, Rick Springfield is still a heart throb. He was good the first time around on General Hospital, the second time, he was okay.
Finished
(another good one!) and
. The Stephanie Plum series comes well recommended. I think I tried to read it a few years back and didn't get very far. This time I got right into it and found myself laughing out loud. I started #2.-Kimmie
I always see Janet Evanovich novels around, but haven't tried reading any of them, maybe I will now.
Robin wrote: "I always see Janet Evanovich novels around, but haven't tried reading any of them, maybe I will now."If you want something that will definitely make you laugh, you need to read the Plum books!
I avoided the plum books for years because frankly, a jersey-girl bounty hunter just didn't appeal to me as a protagonist. It took me being in Warsaw Poland for three weeks with nothing to read and an English bookstore with limited selection before I gave her a try. Boy am I glad I did! I love the laugh-out-loud scenes and the silliness. I think I went through 4 or 5 while I was there. :)
I just finished A Fatal Feast by Donald Bain. Had a slow start but it did get better and did enjoy it.
Finished Two for the Dough. This series is such a hoot I am actually laughing out loud and getting odd looks from strangers.

Just seems like a plot that would be really bad, but it is just the opposite.

Talk about laugh-out-loud!!
Yesterday I finished
Southern Fried, the first in Cathy Pickens series set in small town South Carolina. I started it as another Thanksgiving read. It turned out to be a good mystery once I got past the first chapter. I will read others by this author.

I could not get into the first book. It was kind of boring to me.
Sabrina Fair wrote: "I can see that, I definitely think it is an acquired taste cozy. I've always been really fascinated with Egypt and that was part of the appeal for me. Egypt of the colonial era is so well painted that I almost think of Egypt itself as a character in the books.
the last cozy i finished was
and i think i liked this one the best do far. I loved hearing about Mikes family and you got to love anything with firefighters in them.
I finished Elvis And The Memphis Mambo Murders by Peggy Webb A "cutesy-poo" cozy - a bit over the top with 3 bodies in a short time, stereotypical southern women and a basset hound who thinks he is the reincarnation of Elvis. Some funny moments. Not too sure I would bother with more of them.
Finished Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund and I liked it more than the first one. Hope to get to book 3 soon.
Heidi I wrote: "Finished Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund and I liked it more thant the first one. Hope to get to book 3 soon."Agreed! This series really grew on me fast! Looking forward to the new one next month.
I just finished
Up Jumps the Devil by Margaret Maron. It was a very good read and reminded me of why I like this author.
Ok. Last time I mentioned this no one agreed with me, but I just finished the second book in this series and I still feel the same way. I am referring to
and my issue is with Sophie. It just seems like everyone just walks all over her. I can't believe I am the the only person who feels this way. Nathasha is rude to her, her sister takes advantage of her, and her mother is constantly telling her she is not good enough. I liked both books, I just want to smack Sophie and tell her to stand up for herself already. Maybe she does in book 3. Alright I am ready for the rotten tomatoes :)
No rotten tomatoes, Heidi. Just different strokes for different folks. I'm currently reading
and, yes, Natasha irritates the stuffing out of me but even though I agree that Sophie needs a stiffer backbone, I still like reading the books. (Partly because the setting is near where I live so I recognize the places she talks about) Actually, Natasha is kind of funny how "out of it" she is with how people really feel about her. LOL
I just finished A Brisket, A Casket: A Deadly Deli Mysterynot bad for a first in a series and I am looking forward the next.
I just finished Third Degree by Maggie Barbieri, which also finished off my Autumn challenge. I think it's a good story - it suffered a bit from my reading it between Lois Greiman's books (Unzipped, unplugged, etc.), I think. But I'm definitely looking forward to the next Maggie Barbieri book.
Finished
. It was a good read! Liked it much more than
, which I read a couple of years ago and wasn't crazy about.
Melodie wrote: "Finished

Dru wrote: "I just finished

Just finished
and really enjoyed it! Mars finally grows some backbone and my friend Verena's kitties are in the book. It's a nice Christmas season book.
Heidi I wrote: "I still like the series. I am just waiting for Sophie to tell everyone off!"you know i agree with you. I like the series as well and would love Sophie to tell everyone off. I to felt like she does not get treated well by her family at all. I would freaking snap.

Yay! I am not alone. Thanks :)
Kaye wrote: "finished up The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie and enjoyed it a lot."Good to know. I have a copy at home to read :)
Kaye, I am also reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles and am enjoying it. I finished the latest Laura Childs book, I wrote about it in an earlier posting. Fiber and Brimstone,
Robin wrote: "Kaye, I am also reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles and am enjoying it. I finished the latest Laura Childs book, I wrote about it in an earlier posting."It was a nice easy read too, makes me want to read another Christie. Lots of them on my shelf!

Probably wi..."For me, the best books in the series were the last two, but they were still mostly over the top.
I just finished Susan Schreyer's Death By Dark Horse - WOW - It's a first novel, but you'd never know it. Characters are well drawn and realistic, the plot is multi-layered and the suspense builds to the end. Kept me up last night until 1 AM - and my wake up call is for 5 AM so that should tell you a lot. Highly recommend this book and looking forward to the next release.
