Melodie, please let me know how you like the Rick Springfield book ;)

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished Back to School Murder (Lucy Stone, #4) by Leslie Meier and I was disappointed. I have enjoyed the main character but in this one I just didn't like some of the choices she made in regard to her family. I think I will try the next one and see if it gets better.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I seem to be doing this in two's lately. Just finished The Perfect Shot by Gemma Halliday. This book was originally scheduled to come out in September, but was then cancelled. Checking her website I found she changed publishers, and Perfect Shot was only released on Kindle. It was a cute story - my rant about e-edition errors notwithstanding - a fast, fun read with a happy ending.

I also finished Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen. A bit of a slow start, but I liked it quite a bit and am ordering the next in the series.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I have Fiber and Brimstone by Laura Childs, and also Bone Appetit, by
Carolyn Haines. Don't know which to read first?

Oooh Melodie...I can't wait to read the Rick Springfied book. He was one of my first real crushes..back when he was Noah Drake on GH. I hope you'll let us know how you like the book.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Laughed 'Til He Died by Carolyn Hart Very good mystery plot.

message 1707: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Ooh, Rick Springfield is still a heart throb. He was good the first time around on General Hospital, the second time, he was okay.

message 1708: by Kimmie (new)

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments Finished Repair to Her Grave (Home Repair is Homicide, #4) by Sarah Graves (another good one!) and One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich . The Stephanie Plum series comes well recommended. I think I tried to read it a few years back and didn't get very far. This time I got right into it and found myself laughing out loud. I started #2.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I always see Janet Evanovich novels around, but haven't tried reading any of them, maybe I will now.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Robin wrote: "I always see Janet Evanovich novels around, but haven't tried reading any of them, maybe I will now."

If you want something that will definitely make you laugh, you need to read the Plum books!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I avoided the plum books for years because frankly, a jersey-girl bounty hunter just didn't appeal to me as a protagonist. It took me being in Warsaw Poland for three weeks with nothing to read and an English bookstore with limited selection before I gave her a try. Boy am I glad I did! I love the laugh-out-loud scenes and the silliness. I think I went through 4 or 5 while I was there. :)

message 1712: by Susan (new)

Susan (sumagoo) | 131 comments I just finished A Fatal Feast by Donald Bain. Had a slow start but it did get better and did enjoy it.

Heidi | 2446 comments Finished The Thin Woman (Ellie Haskell Mystery, #1) by Dorothy Cannell . Still not sure how I feel about it.

message 1714: by Kimmie (new)

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments Finished Two for the Dough. This series is such a hoot I am actually laughing out loud and getting odd looks from strangers.

I think this is why I just couldn't get into it the first time. Just seems like a plot that would be really bad, but it is just the opposite.

You should listen to one on audio. The woman who reads them does a fantastic job with the characters, especially Lula and Grandma Mazur. Talk about laugh-out-loud!!

message 1717: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Yesterday I finished Southern Fried by Cathy Pickens Southern Fried, the first in Cathy Pickens series set in small town South Carolina. I started it as another Thanksgiving read. It turned out to be a good mystery once I got past the first chapter. I will read others by this author.

message 1718: by Heidi (new)

They aren't cozies per se but Michael pearce's "Mamur Zapt" series is excellent if you like mysteries about Egypt. Egypt of the colonial era is so well painted that I almost think of Egypt itself as a character in the books.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Fiber and Brimstone (A Scrapbooking Mystery, #8) by Laura Childs Laura Childs This was a good read, esp. since the Halloween season just passed.

message 1724: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) the last cozy i finished was Roast Mortem (Coffeehouse Mystery, #9) by Cleo Coyle and i think i liked this one the best do far. I loved hearing about Mikes family and you got to love anything with firefighters in them.

message 1725: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments I finished Elvis And The Memphis Mambo Murders by Peggy Webb A "cutesy-poo" cozy - a bit over the top with 3 bodies in a short time, stereotypical southern women and a basset hound who thinks he is the reincarnation of Elvis. Some funny moments. Not too sure I would bother with more of them.

message 1727: by Heidi (last edited Dec 06, 2010 12:07PM) (new)

Nell | 1223 comments I just finished Up Jumps the Devil (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #4) by Margaret Maron Up Jumps the Devil by Margaret Maron. It was a very good read and reminded me of why I like this author.

message 1731: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Ok. Last time I mentioned this no one agreed with me, but I just finished the second book in this series and I still feel the same way. I am referring to The Diva Takes the Cake (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #2) by Krista Davis and my issue is with Sophie. It just seems like everyone just walks all over her. I can't believe I am the the only person who feels this way. Nathasha is rude to her, her sister takes advantage of her, and her mother is constantly telling her she is not good enough. I liked both books, I just want to smack Sophie and tell her to stand up for herself already. Maybe she does in book 3. Alright I am ready for the rotten tomatoes :)

message 1732: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments No rotten tomatoes, Heidi. Just different strokes for different folks. I'm currently reading The Diva Cooks a Goose (A Domestic Diva Mystery. #4) by Krista Davis and, yes, Natasha irritates the stuffing out of me but even though I agree that Sophie needs a stiffer backbone, I still like reading the books. (Partly because the setting is near where I live so I recognize the places she talks about) Actually, Natasha is kind of funny how "out of it" she is with how people really feel about her. LOL

message 1733: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I still like the series. I am just waiting for Sophie to tell everyone off!

message 1734: by Rashaan (new)

Rashaan | 5 comments I just finished A Brisket, A Casket: A Deadly Deli Mysterynot bad for a first in a series and I am looking forward the next.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished Third Degree by Maggie Barbieri, which also finished off my Autumn challenge. I think it's a good story - it suffered a bit from my reading it between Lois Greiman's books (Unzipped, unplugged, etc.), I think. But I'm definitely looking forward to the next Maggie Barbieri book.

For me, the best books in the series were the last two, but they were still mostly over the top.

message 1750: by Kait (new)

Kait Carson | 182 comments I just finished Susan Schreyer's Death By Dark Horse - WOW - It's a first novel, but you'd never know it. Characters are well drawn and realistic, the plot is multi-layered and the suspense builds to the end. Kept me up last night until 1 AM - and my wake up call is for 5 AM so that should tell you a lot. Highly recommend this book and looking forward to the next release.
