Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished Stirring Up Strife by Jennifer Stanley. I think this was the first book I've read by her that was just so-so. The characters just didn't grab me like her other series.

This weekend I go to a cat fair, so I hope to see a cat like him :D

Caroline | 661 comments I just finished Berried to the Hilt (Gray Whale Inn Mystery, #4) by Karen MacInerney I've read this series since the beginning and really enjoy the Gray Whale Inn mysteries. I love the setting (an inn on an island off the coast of ME), would like to have the characters for friends and start to drool when she talks about cooking (there are even recipes thrown in!). Karen MacInerney does a good job with these books, imho.

Priscilla | 127 comments I have just finished reading A Hole in Juan An Amanda Pepper Mystery (Amanda Pepper Mysteries (Paperback)) by Gillian Roberts . Not one of the better cozy books I have read. Very slow and not much happened. A few pranks at a teachers school and someone got injured. It included at lot of literature, which I dont mind but I just couldnt get on with the authors writing style.

Oh good. This is on my to read list and sounded like it would be good. I've read Sarah Graves Home Repair is Homicide series which is also set in Maine. Enjoyed it. Thanks Caroline!

message 1606: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Just finished Spanish Dagger (China Bayles, #15) by Susan Wittig Albert but think I may take a break from China for awhile--her obsession with Smart Cookie's appearance is beginning to annoy and I wish The Whiz would make a reappearance. This was a good read and I'm interested in finding out what gives with the father's death, but I really knew who the murderer in this one was in about the third or fourth chapter. I'm getting too used to the author's style and the mysteries aren't challenging anymore. BUT, I'm not giving up on the series because, having taught botany for years and having an herb garden of sorts, I love the herbal lore, recipes and care that make up a good portion of each story.

Emma | 109 comments Just finished Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs and really enjoyed it. I will definitely be checking out the next one from the library in the coming weeks. But for now, I think I'll take a break from cozies and read some much needed Sherlock Holmes.
Death by Darjeeling (A Tea Shop Mystery, #1) by Laura Childs
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Oxford World's Classics) by Arthur Conan Doyle

message 1608: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Okay. I finished A Nose for Justice A Novel by Rita Mae Brown but I started it a while ago and just got turned off by the "preachiness" of it all. A few others in the group made similar comments and I had to make myself finish it. I really love the Sister Jane Arnold series by Rita Mae Brown and like the Mrs. Murphy series but don't know that I'll get into this one. In the end, it was just okay. Parts of it were interesting but most of it was too opinionated and political about water rights in Nevada and ecology, etc. that it just turned me off. Disappointing.

I returned this unread. I knew it was going to be bad when I was reading the character list at the beginning of the book and was already irritated. I think I'm done with her.

I have Heidi! Actually, that first book was the best, the second one pretty good, but the next two were just OK. But, I will read the new one that comes out in April. Let us know if you read anymore ;)

message 1612: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Will do Susie. Thanks for your input!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Have been laid out all weekend with a respiratory infection, which sucks, but boy did I get some reading done! lol I finished:

Farm Fresh Murder - I enjoyed this book quite a bit more than I thought I would, based on what I'd heard. I found the characters to be likeable, although the protagonist was a bit proud - humility is a bit more attractive in a character, imho. Sense of place was excellent and I had no trouble imagining the farm community in South Carolina. I figured out whodunit early on in the story but I still enjoyed reading through to the end. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Hula Done It?, G'Day to Die and Norway to Hide. - I needed Norway to Hide for both my Autumn and Clue challenges and I need to read a series in order. I definitely liked the last books of the series far more than the first. The plots seemed more solid and Emily less flighty. All in all, it's too bad the series ended, but at least the author ended it on her terms, so no loose ends.

I really like this series Heidi..the books make me want to be more organized(never sticks though). The latest book ended in a cliffhanger..so I am waiting impatiently for the next one to come out!

I liked this one and it wasn't too fluffy. I don't remember liking or disliking any of the characters. I intend to read more of the series, just haven't gotten them yet.

Leslie I finished The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee last night. I am completely surprised by the fact that I loved the book. It didn't sound all that great..and I can't do crafts for love or money...but it to me was a great book with good characters and lots of room for growth in the story. Can't wait for the next one.

Shay | 408 comments Susie in KS wrote: "I just finished Moving is Murder. The main character did a few dumb things, but I think I'll try the next one."

I don't like this series. I find the main character annoying. Is this the series where she brings her kids to interview suspects? If so, then I thought she was stupid and a bad mother too. I had to stop reading this series.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished The Lies That Bind. I absolutely love this series and I thought this book was excellent. Great characters and setting, and the book conservation subject fascinates me enough to look for classes here in Melbourne. Can't wait for the next book!

I've just finished A Cadger's Curse (A D.D. McGil Literati Mystery, #1) by Diane Gilbert Madsen and I've liked a lot. I've liked the main character and the writing, not as feisty as a lot of books now. I'm definitively reading the next one.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Haven't read any good mysteries so fat. I am on other goodreads groups where we are reading other books.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Scent to Her Grave by India Ink. I enjoyed it enough as a first to read the next one in the series.

message 1634: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Finished Christmas Mourning by Margaret Maron and I really loved it. Margaret Maron's Judge Deborah Knott books are always a good read for me. I love the family aspect especially. Also finished A Holiday Yarn (A Seaside Knitters Mystery, #4) by Sally Goldenbaum and it was great. Good series plot development! Weird - both of those are Christmas-time books and I haven't read the Thanksgiving book A Catered Thanksgiving (A Mystery with Recipes, #7) by Isis Crawford yet! LOL Oh well. I'm reading that now.

Melodie, I thought, I would give it a read with it being a new-series and all. To tell you the truth, the writing wasn't bad it was the story line and the main character that just came up flat.

I don't think I'll be read the next book in this series at all.

Melissa (mblisa) | 369 comments I just finished Framed in Lace (A Needlecraft Mystery, #2) by Monica Ferris - I enjoy this cozy series "centered" around a small town, and a needlecraft shop. Lots of interesting characters..it left me guessing until the end of the story.

I'm reading The Lies That Bind (A Bibliophile Mystery, #3) by Kate Carlisle which is the new one in this series right now. Pretty good, so far! I like this series and Brooklyn's offbeat family.

I just finished this one too! I listened to it on audiobooks, so perhaps that is why I liked it. I also liked the couple dynamic it reminded me of Hart to Hart (old tv show).
