What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
This is such a great group! I love Laura Childs and Kate Collins. Thanks for all the feedback. You're all great. For Jennifer, I was raised near Gainesville. It's great to hear from another G.R.I.T.S girl!! (Girls Raised In The South)
I've just finished
for the challenge around the world. I'd already read it, but I didn't remember it and it has been interesting.

last night. I thought it was ok. Glad I'm not the only one having problems with this book. I so wanted to like it and it's just OK. The writer seems to be "throwing" stuff into the plot to see what sticks. I should finish it today and not sure if I'll read the next one.
I just finished
. I absolutely love this series so I can't wait to check out the final book in the series.

Just finished
. I really enjoyed it and wish there were more books like it. Jennifer and Emilie Richards are about the only two authors I know who write Christian mysteries. I find the relationship between the characters and the people in the Bible Study is inspiring and uplifting. Thanks Jennifer!
Also finished
(who is really Tim Myers). I really enjoyed the book and look forward to more in this new series.
I just finished
, which I read for an Amazon Vine review. It's not a cozy or even a mystery, so I'm happy that I'm now reading
, a humorous mystery.
I just finished A Murder of Taste by Sally Goldenbaum. I enjoyed the story even though I knew the murderer very early in the book.
I finally finished
and have to say Norman really pissed me off in this one and I was actually rooting for Mike. I know alot of people are sick of this series and i too wish she would just pick a guy or meet someone new already. But these were my first books in this genre so it holds a special place in my heart.
alicia wrote: "I finally finished

Melodie wrote: "alicia wrote: "I finally finished

Just finished the second book in the Tamar Myers PennDutch Inn series, very cute. Enjoyed the first more, but this one was a good addition. Looking forward to digging into the third when it arrives here.
It took me longer than I thought because of unplanned interruptions, but I have just finished A Timely Vision by Joyce Lavene. I really liked this book and I'm looking forward to the next one. The plot kept me guessing throughout and I liked the setting and the characters. They didn't feel like friends by the end, but this is the first in the series and the author(s) might need some time to flesh them out and make them more three dimensional. I'll be keeping my eye out for the next in the series.
I just finished Fatally Flaky by Dianne Mott Davidson. I thoroughly enjoyed getting back into life in Aspen Meadow. There were enough suspects, clues, and great dishes to keep me entertained to the end. There are two recipes included that I will definitely have to try, Julien's Summer Fritata and the Nutcase Cranberry-Apricot Bread.
Miki wrote: "I just finished Fatally Flaky by Dianne Mott Davidson. I thoroughly enjoyed getting back into life in Aspen Meadow. Kathryn: Loved your review of The Moonstone. I, too, like this novel very much. My copy is an older copy so the type is small and the lines close together. Thus it took me awhile - especially since I had eye surgery on both eyes. Isn't Betteredge with his dog-eared and cherished "Robinson Crusoe" a hoot? And, Miss Clack was insufferable with her pious and zealous pursuit to convert others. Sargent Cuff and his roses were wonderful indeed. I agree "Marvelous characterization!" And, I have a hundred pages to go.
Dru wrote: "I just finished For Richer, For Danger by Lisa Bork and it was very enjoyable."Good to know! I have it coming up soon!
Just finished up Diva Las Vegas: A Soap Opera Mystery by Eileen Davidson. I really enjoyed this series and I'm sorry this is the last one. I found it only a minor annoyance that the issues with her ex were left unresolved as it was never a front-burner issue, and I felt the series ended on a happy note.
Just finished Morbid Taste for Bones and Tears of the Giraffe. Really enjoyed both of them. Brother Cadfael is one of my favorite detectives next to Agatha Christie, of course. And, Tears was just a fun book to read - one learns much about Africa and the culture along with the mystery - in this case, a missing son.
I read
recently and really liked it. Even though at times some of the characters were less believable. I mean, how bad can a detective really be?
Jennifer-in-oz wrote: "Just finished up Diva Las Vegas: A Soap Opera Mystery by Eileen Davidson. I really enjoyed this series and I'm sorry this is the last one. I found it only a minor ..."I just added the first one to my pile as it looks cute.
I finished Stirring Up Strife last night. This one started very slow for me and I even put it down for a week or so. But for some reason when I started it again yesterday I really enjoyed it. I decided to continue with the series...which I had actually decided against earlier.
Just finished up A Glimpse of Evil by Victoria Laurie. She has long been one of my favorite authors and I've had the pleasure of talking to her several times - she is a fantastic person - so it just makes the books that much more fun for me. This one didn't disappoint, either. I enjoyed the story and the characters in this one much more than I have previously. I like that *all* the characters move forward and are finding their happiness as the series progresses, not just Abby and Dutch.
Finished Red Delicious Death by Sheila Connolly this evening. I liked this one a lot better than I did book two. Not as much focus on the murder in this one, but I liked seeing the community come together as one.
Jennifer-in-oz wrote: "Just finished up A Glimpse of Evil by Victoria Laurie. One of the better books in the series. I was a bit disappointed with the one before this, but this one was back on track.
Caroline wrote: "Just finished

The Mermaid in the Basement is the first book in one of his series- it's set in Victorian England. Radine Trees Nehring writes Christian mysteries set in Arkansas- great also if you're doing the 50 states challenge. If you can't find them at the library, most Christian mysteries, at my library at least, are found in the large print section. I believe Thorndike publishes most of the large print Christian titles at my library.
Well, I had a feeling it would be a quick read and it went even quicker than I thought! I just finished Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich and I loved it! Don't get me wrong, this is not a book you read for any degree of depth, it was pure cotton candy entertainment. It had me laughing out loud in a couple of places and left me looking forward to more. It probably only took me 3.5 hours to read, with minor interruptions here and there - very breezy.Based on the plot, it would seem there are 6 more books to look forward to and it's going to suck waiting another year for the next one!
Dru - I bought For Richer, For Danger and it's in my TBR pile. If you liked it, I'm pretty sure I will.I just finished
and it made me laugh out loud in many places. I love David Rosenfelt's attitude toward dogs and his sense of humor in writing the characters - especially Andy Carpenter. At times intense, this is overall a greatly refreshing read. Great series!

Don't get m..."I was debating on whether or not to get this one, but it sounds like it was pretty good, so that may be next on my to get list!
I just finished Bad Faith by Aimee and David Thurlo. This is the first in the Sister Agatha series. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a cozy because of the length, but I think it qualifies. I really enjoyed it.
A Bicycle Built for Murder by Kate Kingsbury ***Murder on Astor Place by Victoria Thompson ***
You Bet your Life by Stuart Kaminsky ****
With Way to Murder by Shirley Damsgaard ****
Finished
last night and think I'm done with the series! I wasn't crazy about the first one in the series, but the second & third were much better. This one was worse than the first one! I haven't figured out why everyone loves Tricia when I think she's whiny & opinionated!
Melodie wrote: "Finished

This one ..."Melodie - I don't know what it is with these books - I get to the middle of one and swear it's the last one I'm reading and I'm done with the series. Tricia doesn't bother me nearly as much as her sister who I'd honestly like to smack upside the head sometimes, but Tricia acts like the walking wounded throughout most of the series and it's just boring. She has no fire or spark.
But I like the premise of the series and there are likable aspects and by the end of the book the author has me thinking "maybe the next one will be better". It seldom is, and I do know that the next one will be at the bottom of the pile if it makes it there at all...
I have finished Buzz Off and I've got mixed feelings. It has not been bad but I don't like too much the main character (and I distaste the mother a lot). I'll give another try, however.
Marisa - I know what you mean. I'm partway through and having a hard time keeping going. I like some of Deb's other series better (Deb Baker is Hannah Reed).
Just finished
by Sheila Lowe. I enjoyed it and I will probably read the next one, but I doubt I will read the previous three. It was also the first cozy I have read that didn't have a murder as the premise of the mystery.
Caitlin, you're missing out on a good series of books by not reading the first three! I love this series!
Heather L wrote: "Caitlin, you're missing out on a good series of books by not reading the first three! I love this series!"Do they have to be read in order? Or could I start back with the first one?
Just finished
. It isn't a cozy ... but a great mystery all the same. A mystery corpse, stolen jewels, a code to decipher, very atmospheric.... all great engaging reading ...
I would thoroughly recommend it ... up there with Moonstone (my all time favourite mystery)
Jennifer-in-oz wrote: "Melodie wrote: "Finished

Ugh! I have the first Booktown Mystery in my tbr pile, but I think I may just skip this series as it sounds hit or miss. Too many other good books out there to read.
Heidi I wrote: "I just finished two good cozies back to back
and
. Hope my luck continues."If you keep on with these 2 series, you pretty much can't miss!!
I just finished On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle. I reviewed it, if anyone wants to know what I thought about it.
Just finished Gayle Trent's
and I enjoyed it although I was a bit put off by the character of the mother. And I actually put down
because the way the character of the mother treated her daughter really, really bothered me. Yes, my mom and I had some issues from time to time but she was never so nasty to me. She passed in 1999 and she used to annoy me sometimes but I loved her a lot and still miss her so, sorry Deb - I love the doll collector's series and the Yooper mysteries but I'll have to try to get past this nasty mother if I decide to finish Buzz Off. : /

This time it was more the story. Mike wasn't in it much, but Norman was. I wish she'd just pick him and get it over with. The story was REALLY bland and so easy to figure out. There wasn't even a recipe that jumped out and grabbed me. Didn't care for the Laura Levine story. That series just got too silly after the one where Jaine was on a cruise. The Lucy Stone story was just okay and I skimmed parts of it. I don't know if these 3 story collections are just too short to tell much of a story, if I'm just getting cantankerous!
