I seem to be reading very different books than many of you. I just finished Eat Drink and Be Wary by Tamar Myers. It is part of the Pennsylvania Dutch mystery series. I don't think I will read any more in this series. I found the main characters difficult to like. That is pretty important to me. I really have to be able to relate to at least one of the main characters to want to read more.

Melodie wrote: "Miki wrote: "I seem to be reading very different books than many of you. I just finished Eat Drink and Be Wary by Tamar Myers. It is part of the Pennsylvania Dutch mystery series. I don't..."Miki,
Most of have read the Tamar Myers series and are in pretty much agreement about the series...we're over it. And like Melodie said, it's mostly because of Magdalena's wailing. The series just got so absurd. Her Den of Antiquity is only slightly better and I stopped reading that one after the 7th or 8th one.
Finished reading French Polished Murder by Elise Hyatt this evening. For the most part I liked it. There were some truly funny laugh-out-loud moments. However, the editing--or apparent lack thereof--was seriously irritating my internal editor (as I know it would Denise as well), especially when the author suddenly forgot, in the space of only a couple of pages, what road her characters were racing down. One moment it was Fairfax, the next it was Colfax, without ever turning a corner. You would think, with the number of eyes that see a book before it goes to print, that mistakes like that would be caught. *Sigh* Would definitely read another in this series, but hope the next is better edited.

Martha, I have no grandkids (or kids) so that means even more time for reading. Someday, my friend. LOL
I finished up
last week and really enjoyed it. I think because I'm reading a lot in between each of them the repetitiveness isn't bothering me as much.
Just finished
. It's great! I'm looking forward to the second book in this series (due out in Feb 2011). I like the setting (Pacific NW), the protag owns an embroidery/needlework shop (I crochet and cross stitch so I enjoyed that) and she owns an Irish wolfhound named Angus O'Ruff (I love dogs). Author has a great sense of humor - in one part, the protag tries to imagine how several different tv detectives would investigate the crime and it's really funny! Highly recommend it.
Glad you've liked it. It's the next one I'm going to read (i don't know when, however, because I go a week to the beach and I think I'm not going to read a lot ;) )

I finished Last Writes this morning. This is one of my favorite series and this book was as good as the others.
Caroline wrote: "Miki wrote: "I seem to be reading very different books than many of you. I just finished Eat Drink and Be Wary by Tamar Myers. It is part of the Pennsylvania Dutch mystery series. I just finished Grace Under Pressure by Julie Hyzy and really enjoyed it. I've read her White House Chef series too, which is also a wonderful series. Highly recommend!
I finished Murder with All the Trimmings by Elaine Viets a couple of nights ago. I liked the book in some ways and in other ways things really annoyed me. At first, I thought the mother / daughter relationship between Josie and Amelia was very realistic, but then Amelia was doing things that were just way beyond a nine year old's capacity. I really wanted to smack Amelia for some of the stunts she pulled. Josie supposedly punished Amelia, but then a few pages later, Amelia was doing whatever she had been grounded from.I'll give this series another shot. I read this book as the first in the series (even though it's not) for a "Christmas in July" challenge.
Leslie wrote: "I finished Last Writes this morning. This is one of my favorite series and this book was as good as the others."I just started reading this one.
I have just finished Cat in an Ultramarine Scheme by Carole Nelson DouglasCat in an Ultramarine Scheme and feeling quite shell shocked by it. Brilliant book, but I can't wait for another year to find out what is going on!
I just finished The Merlot Murders by Ellen Crosby. It is the first book in the Wine Country Mystery series. I read it for the USA challenge, but when I finished it, I really wanted to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed the writing style more than the characters. I am hoping they continue to grow in the next book.
Just finished
by Donna Andrews. I enjoyed the characters, especially the dad. Also enjoyed all fun animals that showed up on the farm!
I just finished Sprinkle with Murder by Jenn McKinlay. I liked it and it had me guessing to the end! :D Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I finished
last night. As much as I love Susan Wittig Albert's China Bayles series, and her writing style in general, this one just wasn't my cuppa. It fits in with some other books that I think of as almost TOO cozy. She writes about the time period well.
Yesterday I finished May Day by Jess Lourey and am giving it a solid 3.5 stars. It's not the best series ever, but it seems kind of unique; I liked enough about it to continue on with June Bug. I wasn't sure if I really liked the protagonist Mira James, but she definitely grew on me. There was some very dry humor in this book that really tickled my funny bone. I was kept guessing who the killer was until the very end. This book defies the cozy mystery genre in some ways. The protagonist is definitely an amateur sleuth and the setting is small town. However, this book would fail the "grandmother" test. There was pretty explicit sex scenes and there was some deviant sexual encounters happening around town.

Red Dress Ink is more Chick Lit than romance. They ususally publish in quality paperbacks.
Kaye wrote: "Just finished
and really liked it. Will definitely read more by this author."I really like this series, even if there are only 2, so far!
Dru - Thanks! I'm looking for this book to read (did you know Bente Gallagher is Jennie Bentley?).Kari - I loved the Passport to Peril series. A lot of fun. Sorry it's done.
I just finished
Fatally Frosted and Murder Past Due. Sketch is a really good first in a new series, as is Murder Past Due. Fatally Frosted is second in the donut series.
Unfortunately, I think Hula was the last one. Although I think she's working on a new series (I hope! : )
Caroline wrote: "I just finished
Pepper is so much fun! And I really liked President Garfield. : )"I really like this series and thought this one was quite good.
Denise wrote: "Just finished my third book of the Trixie Belden series, The Gatehouse Mystery."Oh my, that brings back memories! I loved Trixie when I was younger.
Kari wrote: "Kari - I loved the Passport to Peril series. A lot of fun. Sorry it's done.I don't know the timeline, but it's my understanding that the series will be coming back with a new publisher.
Just finished "Walking into Murder" by Joan Dahr Lambert. I enjoyed it, at first a bit to much going one but it got easier to follow.
I just finished Closet Confidential this afternoon. Before this book I liked the series...but this one was to me by far the best in the series so far and bumped it up to a series that I love.
I just finished
and while I enjoyed the first book in this donut series, the second left a lot to be desired for me. I am really not liking the protag, nor her mother, who both seem a little snippy and cold. I feel bad for her assistant at the donut shop, as she yells at her quite a bit in this book. I was hoping for more and I am not sure I will continue with the series when the next book comes out.
Heather L wrote: "Finished Sketch Me If You Can before bed last night. LOVED it!"I added it to my PBS wish list yesterday, but hadn't read any reviews yet. Glad you liked it Heather!

Daphne wrote: "I just finished

Daphne wrote: "I just finished

I just finished reading Pretty Little Liars book #8 (the last one). I don't know if you guys would count this as a mystery, but it was really good. This series has had unanswered questions from book #1, and most of them were answered in the final book (enough to keep me happy). I recommend this series to frequent Young-Adult readers that like both drama and mysteries.

just finished Paper Thin Alibi by Mary Ellen Hughes. It was a very enjoyable book and will miss reading anymore.
I just finished
by Donna Andrews. I really didn't enjoy this one as much as her previous Meg Langslow books.
Susan wrote: "just finished Paper Thin Alibi by Mary Ellen Hughes. It was a very enjoyable book and I will miss reading anymore."Thanks, Susan. I'm happy your enjoyed the series. Jo and her friends are still very much alive in my imagination, so who knows? Maybe they'll reappear some day.
