I just finished reading Dead & Berried I get to pick a new book and I'm thinking about either the book HOW NANCY DREW SAVED MY LIFE or another Nero Wolfe Mystery. Pamela

I've been quiet in the group because I was vacationing in the Mayan Riviera and Cozumel for two weeks with my husband. While there, I read two books by two of my favorite mystery authors:
Yankee Doodle Dead by Carolyn Hart
and
Owls Well That Ends Well by Donna Andrews.

Both were enjoyable reads and great reminders why I loved these authors, Carolyn for her terrific characterization and setting, and Donna for her madcap humor. I recommend both books!

Hmmm... I just finished writing A Ghost From the Shadows, book 2 in the Shannon Delaney cozy paranormal series. It is now out in e-book format and will be out in paperback later this year. Book 1 in this series: A Ghost of a Chance is now out in paperback. And on March 1st I will begin writing book 3. Just finished reading Defending Angels, by Mary Stanton and Curiousity Killed the Cat Sitter by Blaize Clement.

These are both new writers I haven't read before and I'll definitely be looking for more of their books in the future. I'm looking to expand my mystery reading list this year.

Those are two of my favourite authors, too. I've got Owl's Well, but had too many interruptions when I read it, driving with my daughter & her 3 small children for 2 weeks, so have to read it again. (That was my "vacation" last year!) Haha

Hey Terri, do tell: What about Peril at End House did you not like? (Might want to post a spoil alert)

Basically it was two things: I didnt like ANY of the characters (other than Poirot and Hastings) and second was that sometimes it was just really confusing. By the time I was done with the big reveal the killer scene (which I did like), I just wanted it to be over.

LOVE THOSE! I think they make more sense if you read them in order, but you can read them out of order too.

Just started Remains of the Dead by Wendy Roberts.

I just finished Background to Danger. I quite enjoyed it. I don't think it's truly a "Cozy Mystery" (I didn't see it on the cozy mystery website...), but it's pretty tame, all things considered. There are murders, but it's more of a political plot. Also, the mystery is more of a "how it will be solved" instead of a whodunnit. Still, I enjoyed and thought I'd share;)

I just finished Wreath of Deception by Mary Ellen Hughes. It's the first book in her craft corner mystery series. It was a classic cozy and I enjoyed it.

I just finished Peppermint Twisted, by Sammi Carter. These are fun, quickies and I enjoy the characters and setting (little Colorado town). Fun books.

I just finishedTumbling Blocks. This book examines the relationship between Gabe and his mother, and Gabe actually asks Bennie to look into what he thinks was not a murder to keep someone who insists it was off his back. Not as exciting as Delectable Mountains, which I finished Sunday, but that would be a hard book to beat. They are both good.

I finished Death of a Witch by M.C. Beaton, one of the Hamish MacBeth series. Pretty good, an easy read, and I enjoyed the Scottish flavor.

New member to this group - long lover of the cozy mystery.

Just finished reading "The Tuesday Club Murders" by Agatha Christie. I believe it was the first book to feature Miss Marple.
Premise is a dinner party where each guest tells about either an unsolved, or perplexing case, and the other guests try and guess "whodunit." All very proper, very British...I'll leave you to guess who solves all of the crimes.
Anyway, if you love Agatha Christie, you'll love this book.

I just finished Death on a Silver Tray. It is light and fluffy but entertaining with enough of a mystery to keep you interested.

I finished Homicide In Hardcover by Kate Carlisle. It's the first of a new series, and I liked it. I think it's the first novel I've read that features bookbinding.

My daughter picked it up and chuckled over the title. Homicide in Hardcover? It's a paperback.

I just finished Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. It's the first book in the Amelia Peabody series.

I finished the latest Hannah Swensen cookie shop mystery, Cream Puff Murder. I really like this series, and this one was no exception. Throughout the series, Hannah's been torn between two suitors, Mike and Norman. I'm a Normanite myyself and was pleased to see him get more attention this time around! The books include recipes, too - this one has 21. I want to try out several of them.

I love the Joe Grey series! I even bought all the books in the series plus the Catswold Portal and re-read them in order to better appreciate the development background stories throughout the series. I've got the latest book, Cat Playing Cupid, but haven't started reading it yet.

I am new here but have read all the Hannah Swensen mysteries and must tell you they are all good. The recipes are great and she gets some from her readers!
I also enjoy craft, tea, coffee, scrapbooking, bookstore, etc. type mysteries as well as many of the more hardcore mysteries from Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, etc.

I am going down the list of cosy mysteries looking for new authors. I'd love any suggestions. I can think of Cleo Coyle, Maggie Seton and Laura Childs right off the top of my head that are favorites of mine.

I just finished the Psychic Eye Mysteries by Victoria Laurie. I really enjoyed them all. There are 6 book total right now with another to be published in September. They border on the paranormal genre because the main character Abby Cooper is a psychic intuitive. I read the whole series in less than 2 weeks. I got hooked!

I just finished Devil May Ride by Wendy Roberts, the second in the Ghost Dusters series. I'm not sure if it fits in this category or not - is it a "cozy" if you can't stand to read it while eating?! ;-) It's about a crime-scene cleaner who sees and talks to ghosts at her job sites, and the descriptions can be a bit gory. But I like the characters and story lines and am looking forward to the next book.

I tried to finish "Shakespeares Landlord" by Charlaine Harris, I just could not get into the book and I hate not finishing a book. I liked her other series of Aurora Teagarden much better. Has anyone else tried reading these series?

I just finished "The Diva Runs out of Thyme" by Krista Davis and it was really good. I look forward to her 2nd installment in this series.

I just finished The adventures of the christmas pudding by Agatha Christie. I thought it was another great book by this Authur, cosy setting and the wonderful Hercule Poirot to solve any mysterious happenings.
A real cosy read with a few red herrings thrown in.

Agree with Edel. Agatha Christie is just classic and have read and re-read so many of hers. This was a good one.

Just finished "Aunt Dimity Slays the Dragon" by Nancy Atherton. I started with the first Aunt Dimity and then skipped ahead to read this newest one. I like the characters, and this new one was a quick read.

Earlene Fowler is one of my very favorite authors, and her Benni Harper series would rank up in my top 5 favorite series. Have you read her new standalone, Love Mercy? We get a little visit with Benni, Gabe & Dove in it.

I just finished The Lover's Knot, by Claire O'Donahue.
Looks like her first book and first in this series about a quilting group and mystery of course! I just loved it! Recommend it if anyone is looking for something new.

I just read the 4th Sophie Katz mystery by Kyra Davis, "Lust, Loathing, and a Little Lip Gloss." I really liked the first 3 in the series, but this one was only okay. The plot kind of dragged a bit for me.

I love the Benni Harper series. I just looked at Earlene's website and we won't get another installment of Benni & Gabe until May 2010 when "State Fair" comes out. Don't you hate the long wait that sometimes happens between books?
Tumbling Blocks, the last book by Earlene Fowler in the Benni series came out in 2007. It is especially tough if you are a fast reader like me. I just finished Fatally Flaky by Diane Mott Davidson. It took me one day to read it. Now I have to wait again!

I have read all of the Shakespeare series (5) as far as I know. I liked the series. I also like the Aurora Teagarden series. I am sad that Charlaine doesn't feel that she has time to write any more books in the Aurora Teagarden series. She also states that she doesn't have anything more to say in the Lily Bard (Shakespeare series). I have not read her vampire series as that isn't my cup of tea but apparently that is the series to which she is dedicating her time.

You might want to pick up Earlene's new book, . Benni, Gabe & Dove make appearances in it.

I just finished reading Murder Off the Books by Evelyn David. This is a "new to me" author (actually a collaboration of Marian Edelman Borden and Rhonda Dossett) and a "new to me" series with main characters Mac Sullivan PI who runs Sullivan Investigations, his dog Whiskey an Irish Wolfhound, Rachel Brenner (soon to be Mac's girlfriend I think), and JJ who is Mac's secretary/ assistant. Overall a pretty good book and start to a new series. The second book in the series, Murder Takes the Cake came out in May 2009 (not to be confused with a book by the same title from author Gayle Trent).

I just finished: A Ghost of a Chance by Elizabeth Eagan-Cox, Whisky With A Twist by Nina Wright and The Diva Takes the Cake by Krista Davis.
Ghost of a Chance is the story of Shannon, who comes to San Diego to write promotional copy for Blackthorn House, an old Victorian house which is being converted to a B and B. Meanwhile on her first night in the house Shannon encounters a ghost and a mystery about the disappearance of the original owner of the house( who was a professional magician) and his wife.Of course, Shannon has to investigate this old disappearance of 1888....

The Diva Takes the Cake has as its main character, Sophie, who is an event planner. She is in the middle of planning her sister's wedding when a body is found hanging from the pergola next door. The woman is supposedly the ex-wife of the man her sister is going to marry. Her sister, Hannah insists on going ahead with the wedding despite the fact that her fiance looks guilty. Chaos, humor ensues with an enormous cast of characters. Excellent cozy!
Whisky with A Twist starts with Whisky Mattamoe, owner of a real estate office and a criminal wandering, Afghan hound being invited to the National Afghan show as a "bad Example" as a dog owner. The ladies that invite her are a couple of snooty dog show hostesses who's car gets shot at on the way to Whisky's house. Mix in Jeb, a professional singer/songwritter,Whisky's romatic interst and many wierd, quirky, off the wall characters and stir! Funny! Lots of action. A quick fun read!
An interesting cast of characters and a good light cozy mystery.
