Coca-Cola cake is wonderful! My grandmother used to make it and I use her recipe! (I'm a Coke-a-holic!)

me too! In fact my husband was out of town last weekend so i had my very own Murder, She Wrote marathon!

As an aside, I met Donald Bain at a writer's conference a year or so ago and I said "My father (who was a HUGE MSW fan!) always talked about Jessica Fletcher as if she were real." and Donald replied, "So do I!" He and his wife (co-writer) are charming people. How was the latest book? I haven't snagged it yet...

message 5308: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments I don't know if it counts as a cozy or not, but I finished The Lord Is My Shepherd (The Psalm 23 Mysteries, #1) by Debbie Viguié late last night (early this morning? LOL). Some of the violence/killing seemed a little ... too much? ... for a standard cozy, if that makes any sense. I don't want to say too much and give anything away to those who've not yet read the book. (view spoiler)

that said, I really liked the book and have already added the net in the series to my to-read list.

message 5309: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Treacherous Toys by Joyce Lavene . Not bad, but not good either. Basically just okay. Won't read more in the series.

Good to see someone enjoying this book. I read it last year and was generous when I gave it 2 stars. It has some really good sounding recipes, but the story didn't do a thing for me. Thought about trying the 2nd one to see if I liked it any better, but haven't so far.

I've started the third and am reading it now.

message 5320: by Linda (new)

Linda Let It Sew by Elizabeth Lynn Casey. Although I read it after the Christmas season was over, I still enjoyed it tremendously. This is a great series.

message 5321: by Nell (last edited Feb 08, 2013 07:10AM) (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Just finished The Walled Flower by Lorraine Bartlett. While the mystery was good, the main character's go it alone attitude annoyed me. She withheld evidence from the police and ended up endangering her life and several others.
The Walled Flower (A Victoria Square Mystery #2) by Lorraine Bartlett

I made it as far as the second chapter of book 3 and then threw it across the room. Her mother is a witch with a capital B.

message 5328: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I just finished Bruja Brouhaha (A Mind For Murder Mystery #2) by Rochelle Staab . Another great installment in this interesting series.

message 5329: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 92 comments Not quite sure if this series could be considered a 'cozy' as it's a bit 'tougher' in some ways than most cozies. Perhaps police procedural with cozy tendencies? At any rate, I've enjoyed the main character very much and the small town police department is very well done. Three books in the series, starting with A New Prospect by Wayne Zurl and all three are excellent.

message 5330: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments I just finished The Last Queen of England (A Genealogical Crime Mystery #3) by Steve Robinson which is the third in the series. I liked it as I do genealogy and the main character is a whimpy, shy genealogist who always ends up in deep do-do.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I finished The Intrigue at Highbury: Or, Emma's Match last night. I haven't yet read Emma so I had a bit of trouble in the beginning keeping all the characters straight, but it was a fun read!

I really enjoyed the Ghost Duster series

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I've read the first two books in the Deadwood Series. Great reads! Looking forward to the third book!

NB: these skirt the line between cozy and soft-boiled: lots o' language (the second book includes two usages of that penultimate of female insults) and not explicit sex, but there are sex scenes. Also, the final scene of the first book is NOT cozy at all. Not graphic but - well, ick!

message 5345: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished A Novel Way to Die (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery, #2) by Ali Brandon . Gave it 2 stars solely because it was just too incredible even for a cozy. Too bad because I liked the characters.

I read these books a while back and was disappointed there were not more, but I saw today where there are two more coming out. One on Feb. 19th and another on May 21st, but they are only as e-books, haven't seen anything about print books.

I really like this series, too. I pre-ordered the one that comes out on the 19th for my Fire. I REALLY hate spending that much on electronic books when I have nothing tangible to show for my money and can't really do anything with the "book" once I've read it. Hope it's as good as the print books were.
