Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well, I have to admit that the reason I have recently finished Steve Robinson's new book To The Grave (so new it's not here yet) is because I had a pre publication copy but I have to tell you it's a fabulous read. I'll put the link on when he has uploaded it.
If you enjoyed In the Blood you'll love this one. Even better in my opinion. To the Grave

Judith Starkston | 27 comments I just finished reading Nancy Bilyeau's The Crown. It reads like a 16th century thriller but with great character development. One Dominican sister can sure get into a lot of trouble. Maybe a good description would be a page-turner with soul. My review.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Have just finished Punishment by Anne Holt, a good read, with some appealing and original characters.
Getting through last year's backlog still, so think I'll try The Dress next for something totally different.

... so far, so good - it's got me hooked!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just started the second in the series Patti. Stealing Elgar. It's so good I had to stay up late last night - I'm at 20%.
Just finished The Cambridge List by Robert Clear. Very funny in a ridiculous way. Takes me back to Porterhouse Blue in some ways. I'm glad there's to be a sequel to this too.

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments Just finished A Dish Best Served Cold and started The Imperfect Tense.

message 2766: by [deleted user] (new)

While I was away on holiday I finished reading See Before You Die: Patagonia which I enjoyed. Chicklit, mystery and travel book rolled into one - I found it more serious than her first book, See Before You Die: Costa Rica but I still enjoyed it.

I also read, and loved, To the Grave. I thought that it was even better than In the Blood. Some of the writing was quite beautiful and the ending was gripping!

Now I am reading First Light which is interesting. I've had it on my wish list for ages and bought it in the sale - it's over £7 again now!

I've just finished reading Time Child and Other Stories which I enjoyed, I especially liked the first story - Time Child.

Now I've just started Shakespeare's Cuthbert. I've only read the first chapter so far but I am loving the way it is written and finding it very funny.

I read To the Gravelast week & have two Terry Pratchett's on the go - Snuffand one of the science booksThe Science of Discworld III: Darwin's Watch

I'm pondering my review for Steve's book - as you know I don't write many reviews, I think I owe Darren a couple or three plus about 100 others.

message 2783: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hold me down - I've just finished Stealing Elgar by 'our' Andy Barrett. It's the second of a trilogy featuring his SOCO protagonist, Roger Conniston. I'll be reading the third. It was so exciting and 'filmic'.
Just about to start The Blackhouse by Peter May for our village book group.

Lorraine | 575 comments Just finished Ripper,a good story with likeable characters completely ruined by no proof reading.Every page was littered with grammatical and punctuation errors.Glad it was a freebie or i would have been asking for my money back.Just started The Reckoning.

message 2797: by Sadie (last edited Jun 13, 2012 02:22AM) (new)

Sadie Forsythe Just finished When We Were Married - Volume 1 The Long Fall. It was a good story, but seemed unnecessarily long. I've just started The Pattern. It's a bit of a slow boil, but good so far.

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 855 comments Yesssssssssssssssssssssss I've just finished The Great Gatsby writing my review of this wonderful novella ... have spent more time writing the review than reading the book. But I put my back into it. I love the book and I KNOW it well now. That is the way to read. Not ticking off a book every two hours. Suck the marrow from what you read and savour it. That said I am glad to be move on from it, was getting sweatily obsessive.

message 2799: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished reading Shakespeare's Cuthbert. It's very silly and fun; I enjoyed reading it but found that I enjoyed it more in smaller doses - it got a bit much reading it straight through. I can recommend it though if you like your humour silly and unexpectd, it made me laugh several times!

Now I'm reading Build A Man which I am enjoying.

message 2800: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Peter May's The Blackhouse. A good story with dark secrets, suppressed memories and a body or two. The policeman though, had lost his 8 year old son just 4 weeks before the story began. The book didn't ring true in that the author just occasionally seemed to remember to mention it. Still a jolly good read.
About to start Shakespeare's Cuthbert. Karen reminded me that I have it!
