Adele (adelemitch) Just finished Best Kept Secret (yep, fast even for me) absolutely brilliant series of books, don't be put off by the author. Now reading The Doomsday Prophecy will be another quick one as I have a week off work & two days of travelling

Lynda Wilcox (lyndawrites) | 1059 comments Just finished Estelle Ryan's The Gauguin Connection.

Absolutely loved this fast-paced mystery with a heroine with a difference - she suffers from high-functioning autism, and retreats into Mozart in order to cope with the sort of life and social interaction we all think of as 'normal'.

Very different and very recommended.

Sam Kates Just finished The Man Who Watched The World End by Chris Dietzel

Unusually gentle and thoughtful for a post-apocalyptic work. Rather poignant, too. Enjoyed.

Thanks Lynda. Sounds just my cup of tea.

message 6208: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished The Hollow which I think has been my least favourite Agatha Christie book so far but it was still good. I've started The Labours of Hercules

message 6209: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Wilcox (lyndawrites) | 1059 comments You're welcome, Karen. Hope you enjoy it.

I'm just debating whether to buy the next in the series The Dante Connection but it's £3.81. Still, I got the first one free - and they're good lengthy reads - so I might treat myself come payday.

message 6210: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I also finished The Labours of Hercules last night and will be starting Taken at the Flood

message 6211: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21814 comments Just started The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary
Bought it a few years back and its hung about in the pile until now. It is a gem

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments boyhook?

message 6213: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21814 comments not a word in this version, but there are later ones

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I can think of a couple of tasteless jokes, but I will restrain myself.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Errmm.. it may be your work colleagues.

message 6219: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've given up on The Making...: Mystery Novel, it started well but went down rapidly after then. I've now started Redemption Protocol, hopefully that will be better :-)

message 6220: by Karon (new)

Karon | 41 comments I finished Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult , which was a quick easy read and typical Jodi Picoult, although I felt it didn't delve into the issues as fully as it could have.
I've started A Killing Frost (Tomorrow, #3) by John Marsden . This is the third book in the series. I think these books are fairly unknown over here as they are an Australian based young adult series. A really good series based on Australia being invaded by an un-named country, while a group of children are camping in the bush. It tells of their fight to get news of their families and some retaliation.

message 6221: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Just finished Rachel Abbot's Only the Innocent - I know, everyone else on UK Kindle Forum has probably read it already, so you all know it's a very well written, deeply disturbing page-turner of a thriller, the kind where you keep yelling at the main character, 'No! Can't you see he's ... it's ... Don't be so stupid!' and then wonder if indeed you would have been just as stupid yourself in the circumstances.

message 6222: by Adele (new)

Adele (adelemitch) Just finished The Doomsday Prophecy and A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets OMG how wonderful is Bob. Now onto NYPD Red and No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden two books that have been on my to read list for a very long time. In fact I'm finally going through my to read list in order and knocking them off

message 6223: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 575 comments I've just bought a street cat named bob to read on my holiday,i think he has written a sequal as well.

message 6224: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished Mother Tongue: English And How It Got That Way by Bill Bryson (Review).

Just started We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

message 6225: by David (new)

David Hadley Just Finished The Lies of Locke Lamora - a nice one - and Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need - very useful for fiction writers, even though it is about screenplay writing.

Just started Broken Angels which is the follow-up to A Terrible Beauty (called White Bones here) which was pretty good. But then I've always liked Masterton's stuff.

message 6226: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Was tempted to get 'A Terrible Beauty' but thought it might be a bit too graphic...
In his GR biography he says he's a horror writer. And he's written sex books. Which is interesting as the biog also says, 'Graham went on to edit the new British menis magazine Mayfair'. Now that's an interesting genre, menis. Sort of horror/sex & men combined. Maybe I shd have another look at that book of his...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12623 comments just finished Forsaken by Rosie Goodwin, was going to start another of hers but decided to read a non fiction by Dean Koontz. Still struggling with Witches of Eastwick. In fact, just decided to change my paperback to one that will help with my A-Z challenge

message 6229: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Another Agatha Christie down, I finished Taken at the Flood must go find out what one is next on my list to read.

message 6230: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments I've given up on Three Gentlemen of Verona: The Lovelife of London Society - Gianni Ventura (just couldn't understand it.) So now I am reading Escaping Reality - Lisa Renee Jones.

message 6231: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Started Martyr by Rory Clements, his first in a planned series. Very descriptive writing in a fast-moving plot - quite dense, so I had to change my pace a bit.

message 6232: by Karon (new)

Karon | 41 comments I've finished A Killing Frost. This is the third in the Tomorrow series. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I've started Dolores Claibornewhich is on the bottom of my old books to-read list.

Andrew Duff (thrillwriter) | 38 comments David wrote: "Just Finished The Lies of Locke Lamora - a nice one..."

I loved that, and its sequel. The third book in the series, The Republic of Thieves is finally out after a long delay.

I've just finished The Invisible Code, the latest in Christopher Fowler's very consistent Bryant and May series.

Have started L'homme aux cercles bleus (The Chalk Circle Man) which so far, is a little odd, a little confusing, and strangely compelling.

message 6235: by David (new)

David Hadley Karen wrote: "Was tempted to get 'A Terrible Beauty' but thought it might be a bit too graphic..."

Well, yes, it is a bit on the gory side in places. Maybe not suitable for anyone easily cringeable.

Thinking about it, there is a fair wodge of rumpy and a bit of pumpy in his books too.

David Hadley Karen wrote: "Graham went on to edit the new British menis magazine Mayfair'. Now that's an interesting genre, menis. Sort of horror/sex & men combined. Maybe I shd have another look at that book of his... "

From what I know of... er... have been told about Mayfair, menis is an amalgam of men and penis.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Started to re-read The Shining today. This is my third or fourth read of it so I've practically got it memorised but I was to read it again before I start the sequel.

An ideal one to start on Halloween. I've started Dolores Claibourne. :)

I've just noticed my local library has obtained some Agatha Christie e-books. I think they have 6 so far including the two that are available everywhere.
I hope to start reintroducing myself to them soon.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments This morning I finished my Halloween read which was Dying to Live - C.M. Wright.

message 6245: by Adele (new)

Adele (adelemitch) I've just finished NYPD Red and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure why it got such a slating, especially on Goodreads, I've not read any of his other work though. Now starting The Good, The Bad and The Furry: Life with the World's Most Melancholy Cat and Other Whiskery Friends which looks utterly wonderful

message 6248: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) Finished The Desperate , Part IV of the Trench Coats serial. Part IV marks the return of knight-in-tarnished-armor Jacob, an engaging character with a clear voice. Author James keeps a firm hold on the plot reins, making the action go down easy. Four stars.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've started Doctor Sleep

I really want to spend the day in bed reading but I must shop. We need food.

message 6250: by David (new)

David Hadley Just finished Broken Angels, which I think was better than the first one in the series. Very good, but probably not for the squeamish.

Just started Genghis: Lords of the Bowwhich is another sequel, part of a series. I really liked the first one, so I have high hopes for this one. I also like the look of his new one about the Wars of the Roses, Stormbird, which is on my lists of those to add to my list of books that need to go on a list.
