Panda (pandaink) | 84 comments i was hooked to twilight and by chance i picked up CoB as it was on the same book stand as twilight! i'm really glad i picked it up now cause after i read all of twilight it was an even better fined, id take Jace over Edward anyday, or maybe a hybrid of both...(on to somthing!) but i dont think any one can really put their thum on it till CoG comes out about which is better who knows!

message 52: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ hmm yeah. edward is cool and all, but jace is way better. he's more ... conflicted. idk. he seems like more of a real person, while edward is more like a fantasy. u know what i'm saying? :P

message 53: by Panda (last edited Feb 23, 2009 04:52PM) (new)

Panda (pandaink) | 84 comments true, Edward is more in another timeless world, where as Jace is in the real world.

i think its more cause Edward is very dramatic about well everything, about being a vampire, about bella, about turning bella into a vampire, ect... where as Jace would find somthing to kill and just get over it.

and Jace is a real bad boy not a good guy but a Vampire.

could make a pro and con list with these two :P

Sophie Riggsby / allthingsequilateral (sophieriggsby) Love to see that compare and contrast!

Edward is very much an introvert and he's had over a century to study his own reactions to ::everything::. On top of which, he can read minds. So he gets to obsess - a lot.

If Jace were in Edward's position, he would've turned or at least tried more overtly to turn Bella.

Jace is a bad boy on the outside but very conflicted internally, which makes for a much more interesting character in the long run.

Such good comments Pandaink - thank you!

Panda (pandaink) | 84 comments aw thanks!!

But you made a good point about Edward you cant help but love how he is so romantic and yes the mind reading does help, sort of like "what a women wants" meets vampire dating.

Sophie said "Jace is a bad boy on the outside but very conflicted internally, which makes for a much more interesting character in the long run".

I feel the same way! every time he opens up you cant help being glued to the pages.

i think our love for Jace is also caused by the pain of REAL forbiden love can making people really feel for him, not that i'm saying that Edward and Bella didnt have a forbiden love it's just well... if he didnt think too much about it, Edward would of just turned her into a Vamp and not have to deal with the drama of new moon and live happy forever together. it just wouldnt make a good story.

where as with Jace and Clary it is soooooo painful because the idea is soooooo wrong yet you cant help feeling like burning your book when he says "i'll just be your bother". and every time they kiss we all let out a tiny scream (well i do). SO MUCH TENTION!

message 56: by Rees (new)

Rees Yes, I felt as though Twilight was unnecessarily elaborated.
Edward was so persistent on not turning Bella into a Vampire and he fights that idea for the three books and even in some bits of BD. But he does in the end anyway. It was kind of a waste of time. He could've just done it there and then.

But you're right Sophie, Jace is more impulsive and had he been in Edward's position he would've turned her immediately when the request was made.
But the interesting thing about Jace is that, he is not like Edward- which have to be the best it.
There is no corniness and drama and definitely no repeats. He says it, without worrying about the others. The Mortal Instruments series cuts to the chase without having to bring more and more ideas.

Twilight had a lot of questions, but not one that stuck out straight away. Although the question was "Would Edward turn Bella?" There were other barriers to that that were pointless.. college, what her parents thought, her "thirst"

Whereas TMI have one.
"Are they related or not?"
Everything is tied to it. The general question itself, Jocelyn waking up, their gifts, Valentine..
The book is just daring to go to places that others haven't gone. It's dangerous and forbidden.

message 57: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Indeed :D With Twilight, it's kinda predictable. It's like, well of course Bella will turn into a vampire and they'll all live happily ever after. La di da. And with Mortal Instruments, it frustrates the heck out of me!!! I'm like "SO ARE THEY SIBLINGS OR NOT??!! TELL MEEEEE!!!" lol

message 58: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (lettingtheinkdry) | 206 comments Let me just say I have read both series and Breaking Dawn SUCKED!!!!!!!!! After readign that I seriously considered burning all of my Twilight stuff and asking for my money back. And that has never happened before!! Like never!!
Then like the week after I picked up City of Bones and that was like a trillion times better than the Twilight series. I was cured of Twilight after COB. It's just so much better in every way. Btu I don't really need to tellyou guys how great The Mortal Instruments is. : >

message 59: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ lol yeahh. i kinda liked breaking dawn, but it definitely wasn't as good as the other twilight books. they sorta got worse as they went along.

with the mortal instruments, they just kept getting better! :D

message 60: by Neko (new)

Neko (akonojo) | 4 comments i read both series i like mortal instruments more, Bella seems so weak she basically dies when Edward leaves there then uses Jacob until she gets better then when Edward's back she throws Jacob away. Clary while she is having a hard time adjusting she is still a strong girl unlike Bella. and Clary doesn't use anybody and is deeply sorry when Simon confesses his feelings. mortal instruments is like 90/100 while twilight 60/100

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked breaking dawn the most but you have to move on Twilight was published in 2005 that was 5 years ago there are better more intersting books out there like the MI series. (But the MI will never be overrated) ;D

message 72: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (tallperson) | 6 comments So very, very true. ;D (On both accounts)

message 73: by Belicia (last edited Mar 22, 2010 07:54PM) (new)

Belicia Buena-Terrones | 2 comments hands down it would be mortal instruments
I was once a fellow twilight lover and was obsessed with it but that was all about two years ago.
The minute I read City of Bones I already loved it much more. It was more interesting and it was the first book that got me into fantasy and I thank it for that.
Twilight is an ok book but its a complete wonder to me why it has gotten as popular as it is now.

o yeah and Clary can take on Bella any day.

message 74: by Jazmyn (new)

Jazmyn Burton I love both, but MI wins hands down! The MI characters had more depth, and the overall story was way better.

Alice Miller | 17 comments i loved twilight, but then they made the movies and ruined some brilliant books. but i think Cassandra Clare has a much better writing style then Stephanie Meyer, Cassandra develops her characters more though, and Clary is soooooo much better than Bella.

I don't like either of them (i'm talking about Bella and Clary) but MI is for sure better than Twilight, like Rilly said anything is better than Twilight.

Myleen (bookaholic_lady) | 11 comments i read the mortal instruments last year and it just took my heart away! I love everything about The Mortal Instruments and I totally spent some money to collect them. I'm reading it again and it's my third time to read the whole trilogy. The story and the plot are great and I love it more than Twilight! :D

Myleen (bookaholic_lady) | 11 comments Sophie wrote: "Have you tried the audiobook?? It's awesome. I've been listening to COB...and yes, his arrogance, rudeness, self-absorption...a very sexy combination...because we all know he's suffering as well."

that's how I fell in love with Jace! He's just so mysterious and arrogant but inside he can fall in love too! :D

message 88: by Myleen (new)

Myleen (bookaholic_lady) | 11 comments I hope the movie won't suck. Other books turned into movies were really bad and wasn't the same with the book. And i hope that Cassandra Clare would write something more about Jace and Clary because from what i've heard, the fourth book will be all about Simon. Isn't she going to write something like Jace's side of the story? That would really be cool.

message 89: by Carly (new)

Carly | 348 comments I am actually kind of glad. If she streatches it out too much then I think it will lose a lot of intrest that we have in it and the plot line will suffer.
