Anika (teddybear1) | 318 comments I learned about new books thur the friends I made on this site, Amazon and recommendations/ads at the end of the books I have brought and recommendations offered by this site. Also, if I really like the other I will try other series/books that they have written.

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) by the wonderful people on Goodreads.com, and recommendations from the sites I buy books from

message 53: by shinykari (new)

shinykari I find a lot of stuff through GR, and I follow a handful of blogs--mostly UF ones. What I love about GR is that I can follow a lot of bloggers' reviews here, and then add them immediately to my to-read shelf! I also like to see who my favorite authors are friends with; I'm going to pick up the Lords of the Underworld series because Kresley Cole speaks so highly of Gena Showalter.

Of course, I also browse the SFF section of my local library and bookstores and pick out something that looks entertaining.

message 54: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) If I'm correct (KC) & (GS) are good friends... but LOTU is a great series I enjoyed it and still am enjoying it alot I hope you do to.

I've picked up other series because in a book it said if you like this book check out so and so. I learned about Sparks Love at Stake series from Lynsay Sands Argeneau series. I learned about Adrian's Midnight Breed series from Ward's BDB series. Another source has been from the Barnes & Noble receipts. Goodreads has been my biggest source.

harlequin {Stephanie} | 27 comments If you look up a new book on amazon it will recommend similar new books and upcoming in the recommendations or buyers also liked.

You can find lots of new reads on here. I have found tons when I started looking.

message 57: by Summer (new)

Summer Lane (writingbelle) | 7 comments The blogosphere and Twitter. I'm telling you, I know about books before they even exist in the social network realm. It's almost psychic. Really. ;P

message 58: by Cmkage (new)

Cmkage | 231 comments I bought a lot of my books due to recommendations at amazon. I've seemed to have exhausted that source though, so now I've turned to the fav lists and recommendations here at goodreads.
I also like following the blogs of my favourite authors and see what they recommend and some of my favourite books I've found via buying used book packages at ebay

message 59: by Katrina (new)

Katrina (bookbarrio) Mostly I discover new books through review blogs and through goodreads listopia or books other readers also enjoyed.

I subscribe to Literary Escapism which is a fantasy and paranormal review blog. They also have a good list of new Paranormal and Urban Fantasy release dates.

Another blog is Dear Author, which is a good romance review blog

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 248 comments One of the tools I've been using lately is the "Readers Also Enjoyed" section right here on Goodreads. If you go to the page of a book that you like and scroll down just a little bit on the right hand side of the page you'll see "Readers Also Enjoyed." It shows you books similar to the one on the page.

Also, don't forget to check out the most obvious tool on Goodreads, Recommendations (in your header). You can explore to your heart's content. ;)

I have found a few gems this way. The recommendations from GR could use a litle fine tuning but it's off to a very good start as far as I am concerned.

message 62: by yael (new)

yael the reader's also enjoyed section, the library and library catalog, adds about more books in the back of the books i'm reading, blogs, ads, and the Recommmendations section.

message 63: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I like finding old books especially PNR series. That way I don't have to wait a year or 4 for the next book to come out. This GR group has been a great source but I also like to check out blogs of authors I like. They often promote other authors they know. Usually they are promoting authors who are have the same publisher or editor but there are some good finds there. I always look at the 2 and 3 star reviews to see if what is bad about about is something that annoys me too.

message 64: by Pansy (last edited Feb 06, 2012 08:36PM) (new)

Pansy | 740 comments Mostly I turn to GR. This is the Mecca to new books no matter what genre. I also log onto Under the Covers and Maryse's Book Blog. Both sites cater to PNR,Erotica,UF,Romance(Historical or Contemporary). I checked out the RT site, thanks Barbara.

message 65: by Fadia (new)

Fadia Tipton (warthshellen) | 4 comments I go to fantasy fiction website and I see what my favorite authors recommend. it's a very good website

message 66: by Megan (new)

Megan | 2 comments I was having trouble finding new books to read. I had always relied on amazon's recommendations, but they were taking me around in circles, so I came here.
Now I have an author that I follow here on goodreads, who seems to have the same taste in books as me, and I look up the ones she reviews. and then of course this forum

message 67: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (shadowkissedcassie) | 7 comments I hear about most of my new books on here (update wall by friends), giveaways (on here and friends blogs) and on Bookblogs.ning.com If you don't have a bookblogs account you should get one!

First put your info on your page, then go to the groups tab and start joining the ones you are interested in :) I have found many great authors wanting readers and reviewers

message 69: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Has anyone tried using GR recommendations? I've seen some odd combinations of books pop up that way.

message 70: by Lourdes (last edited Mar 09, 2012 10:19AM) (new)

Lourdes | 10 comments I use to get some of my recommendations from Amazon, from the "based on other people purchase" - but found that it just kept coming up with the same books and mostly books I've read - then I signed up on Goodreads and its been GREAT! on the recommendations, I've picked up at least 4 new series and several stand alone books since being part of Goodreads (much to my husbands dismay I am now at 42 series that I read - thank god for ebooks - or I would so be on the horders show). Joining this group also added a few books to my list.

That's what I was afraid of :P I need new recommendations like I need a bag of M&M's, lol.

message 72: by Dom (new)

Dom (_dominique_p) I watch a lot of book channels on Youtube, and that has helped me find many, many new books to add to my to-be-read list. One of my favorites is Book Rat Misty. I also just started my own channel: The Fantasy Fangirl. If you look at my "feed" you'll see the channels I'm subscribed to, which are pretty much all great.

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

Sometimes if I really have nothing at all to read, I just go to a bookshop and make a list of all the books that sound interesting, then I get them out from the library and read them. Kind of cheating the bookstore, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

message 74: by Vixen (new)

Vixen (thesilentfox) | 11 comments I either hear about them from other people. Sometimes I come across them on goodreads and then go look for them. Or in a few cases I've actually seen the books in the stores on the shelves and make a mental note of what they are and look into them later.

Wow! I had no idea that such a thing existed. Thanks for the info. : )

message 76: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) That's why I love the GR app on my phone. When I go to the library, I can look at the books on my TBR list. I used to carry a notebook, but the app is more convenient.

message 77: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Hansen (shawnasbooks) | 6 comments I've been getting a lot of recommendations for books on Twitter lately (especially free offers on books).

message 80: by Tina (new)

Tina Pegar (rainingdaisy) My partner has been reading in the genre for years so she turns me on to some/ I also have a Kindle and subscribe to Pixel of Ink and get quite a few books free for my kindle to try out. Also recommendations on goodreads as well as Goodreads lists have gotten me started on some series such as the Chicagoland Vampires.

message 81: by Lea (new)

Lea (leakoehler) Most of the time, I find my books here, Amazon, my local library, or bookstores.

message 82: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) There are a lot of great groups on FaceBook too where I hear about books. If you search FB for groups that have 'reading' in the title, you'll discover quite a few.

Readers of Kindle is my favorite group over there.

The Greywalker series.

message 84: by Katie (new)

Katie Rodante (katierodante) | 8 comments I find new books here on goodreads, either from the recommendations or what my friends are reading. Also, the library, my mom who is also an avid reader, friends, Amazon suggestions, or what catches my eye at the bookstore or library.

If I'm out and a book looks good, I'll check goodreads to know how people are rating it before I commit to reading. After all, there's so many books out there that I just don't want to waste my time on bad ones.

message 85: by Abby (new)

Abby | 353 comments Goodreads, forums I'm part of , friends, and fictfact.com

message 86: by Diana (new)

Diana Nixon (diananixon) | 6 comments Most of new books I find on Amazon page. There you can find some comments and descriptions, so it helps to choose something you would like to read. I'm still new member here, but thing this site is also good in finding new releases:)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Mainly goodreads anymore. Also my best friend and I are book buying addicts so that way.

message 89: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 539 comments Most of the new books I find thru GR threads or GR friends. And there is a B&N near the grocery I go to and there's one in a strip mall I find myself at often. I also hear about them from my sister that doesn't like to read but she knows I do. Finally I recommended books to a couple of co-workers (who were looking for escapes) - now they have readers and recommend to me!

message 90: by Vannah (new)

Vannah (alisidewinder06) | 2 comments Well I am new to Goodreads, only been a member for a few months, and while this is very helpful to find new books, I used amazon.com for most of my books. I just typed in the books I have read and liked then it gives me related searches which most of the time is very helpful and accurate. Also word of mouth tends to be a good method for me as well, I just post on facebook or twitter and people give me suggestions, this doesn't always work out but it has been helpful.

message 92: by H.L. (new)

H.L. Wampler (hlwampler) | 29 comments I learn about most of the new books I'm either reading, or going to read from friends or Absolute Write (a forum for writers).

I'm also new to Goodreads and I'm hoping I find tons of books that are either not well known, or new to read.

message 93: by Monache (new)

Monache | 5 comments I look up my favorite books or at least books I am most passionate about and read the reviews posted by others.... If I find a review that sparks my interest, I'll then look to see what else that person is reading and if the titles look interesting, I'll click on the 'compare books' feature in GR and look for literature that we do and do not have in common.

I also look in the 'group' feature of books that I really like and join the discussion forums.

Hope this helps!

message 94: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 4 comments I go to second hand bookstores and pick up books with interesting binders and I look at authors I like on social sites (Facebook,Twitter, etc.) and look into books written by other authors they talk to.

Scarlet (extraordinarygirl86) | 81 comments Mostly I learn about new books from goodreads either through discussions in group forums or recommendations from my favorite authors.

message 96: by Ashley (new)
