Me: It would be severe enough to hinder his daily life at times, which really frustrates his parents (who are already frustrated enough trying to deal with Bast.) Eventually, they opt to institutionalize them both because a.) they can't take care of both odd children by themselves, they need help with that and b.) they'll be together, which is good.

Carlos is quirkily adorable. Ishmael is just really really kind and nice. He'll so have his quirks, of course, but he's generally more sane. He and Carlos could be very good friends, though.

Me: I need to give him an obsession. People with autism often exhibit strong, narrow interests in only certain topics. Mine include many branches of science, history, mental health, and language arts. My brother has a fixation with technology, specifically computers, and radio stations (he's memorized more call signs and jingles than I can count.)

I need something like that for Ishmael.
