Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I will be working this weekend. I have deadlines to meet by May 31st. I took 4 days off last weekend so I have to play catch up.

It's a long weekend in the States. Memorial Day is on Monday. What are your plans for the weekend?

message 2: by Karen (new)

Karen | 42 comments We have my grandson's 7th birthday party and then a family cookout for Memorial Day. Love the long weekends!

message 3: by Tara (new)

Tara Woolpy | 10 comments My youngest daughter graduates high school next week so we're celebrating.

message 4: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Reading, reading, and more reading. Also checking out GR's.

message 5: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 95 comments Just hanging out... Have 4 days off, hoping to get a little reading done, maybe soak up some sun, having a small family cookout... that's about it ;)

message 6: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments What books are you (Karendenice & Valerie) reading?

I stayed up till after 1:00 this morning finishing Never Knowing. I had to get up early to go to work - should have known better.

message 7: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Right now I'm reading Rescue by Anita Shreve which I just started last night and am almost through with because I'm really loving it, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber and I'm going to start and hopefully finish My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares. This is going to be a great weekend! Are you enjoying Never Knowing

message 8: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Yes, I enjoyed Never Knowing. I couldn't stop reading till I was done. I'm surprised I liked the book considering I didn't like the main character. She was such a drama queen. LOL!

message 9: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I'll have to check that book out? Have you started another book yet?

message 10: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 95 comments Janice wrote: "What books are you (Karendenice & Valerie) reading?"

I just started reading Cloaked by Alex Flinn by Alex Flinn. Only read the first chapter, but I think it's going to be a pretty good read. I've already read one book by this author, Beastly by Alex Flinn , and enjoyed it too.

I also have a very bad habit of staying up much later than I should! LOL ;)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Karendenice wrote: "I'll have to check that book out? Have you started another book yet?"

I usually reading 2 or 3 books at a time. I'm listening to A Prayer for Owen Meany on my commute to and from work, and I'm reading The Woman in White.

message 12: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Both those books look interesting and fun, Valerie.

message 13: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I love The Woman in White. It is without a doubt one of my favorites. i really hope that you enjoy it as much as I did and do. As far as your other book, I think I own it but I'll have to check and check it out. Are you enjoying both of them.

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments Yes. Although A Prayer for Owen Meany isn't a comedy, there are times that I've laughed out loud. I read this book many years ago and the only thing I remember about it was that I really liked it. I decided it was time for a re-read.

And I'm thoroughly enjoying The Woman in White. It's a breath of fresh.

message 15: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Im going to look through my books tomorrow and hopefully find it. Are you enjoying The Woman in White?

message 16: by Emily (new)

Emily (emylicious) | 2 comments I'm working most the bank holiday, but I'm busy reading The French Lieutenant's Woman and The Prime of Miss Jean Brody for an exam Monday week. Secretly also reading Game of Thrones sssh! :D

I won't tell anyone if you don't. :) Enjoy all your reads.

Karendenice Janice, I can't find it. And what's even worse is that I had an inventory of all of my books. But when I tried to open the file I get an error message. I want to cry. there's over 1,200 books on my list.
I'm happy that you're enjoying it. i hope to be soon!

Ouch! Sorry about the problems you're having with your file.

message 21: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Thanks, Janice. I still can't get it to open. I just cannot believe that after all the time I spent on it and having only finished it a few months ago that I can't open it now. It makes me sick.
And I still haven't found the book!

Ouch! I know how that feels. I have books stashed everywhere. I managed to find 3 of the 4 books in the series "The Book of the New Sun" Gene Wolfe. The one I'm missing and can't find is the first one.

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It's another weekend. We had a freak snow storm hit.

Snapbucket,Grovedale

I was going to plant my bedding out plants this weekend. It should melt quickly and maybe I can still get them in on Sunday. I want to do a bit of quilting this weekend too.

What are you doing this weekend?

message 24: by Valerie (last edited Jun 03, 2011 10:42PM) (new)

Valerie | 95 comments I plan on doing as little as possible! This week at work was extremely busy and LONG, and I'm ready to just put my feet up & totally CHILL! :)

message 25: by Sandy (new)

Sandy H (sandyquiltz) Going to a local quilt show this morning (invited my MIL with me so she can get a taste of my world, LOL); then hope to clean out my pantry this afternoon and maybe get some quilting in. Tomorrow morning is a bridal shower for a cousin. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon is slack time!

message 26: by Sandy (new)

Sandy H (sandyquiltz) Janice, where are you that you got snow? Wow--my sympathies!

message 27: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I live in Alberta. I don't think I've ever experienced snow in June before. The sun is coming out, so hopefully it will melt quickly.

message 28: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah_337) | 22 comments I work all dat Saturdays and half of Sundays. My weekend is Monday and Tuesday funnily enough! Anyway, going shopping and will probably pick up some bargain books. I cant resist a bargain.

message 29: by Alison (new)

Alison Forde | 269 comments Its summer fete/gala day season in the villages round here. Ideal for picking up tasty home baking and second hand books A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini The Children's Book by Antonia S. Byatt Star of the Sea by Joseph O'Connor Holy Fools by Joanne Harris

message 30: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It's Canada Day tomorrow and Independence Day in the States on Monday - that means it's a long weekend for a lot of people.

Do you have plans?

I've been fighting a nasty flu bug for 3 weeks now. I'm still coughing and my sinuses are still plugged. I intend on getting lots of rest. I have some commitments relating to this group and another group I belong to. I have a bookmark to make for our first challenge winner, a challenge badge to create for future challenges, a secret penpal letter to write, a bunch of discs to burn for an exchange.... Did I say I was going to rest? Oh! And of course, I will read.

message 31: by Sandy (new)

Sandy H (sandyquiltz) Sorry to hear you're so sick, Janice! For some reason summer bugs seem to be the worst--maybe cause we just don't expect to get sick the way we do in the winter. (Or, at least, here in Western NY that's the way we think!)

I have the long weekend off from work so at least some portion of my little nuclear family is heading up to our family cottage (my family-of-birth) on the shores of Lake Ontario. "Cottage" = "Reading," so I'm looking forward to probably finishing up The Hunger Games. (I'm almost halfway done now and really enjoying it.) I've also got some other books on my Kindle that I'll either finish or make decent progress in: Enough Already!: Clearing Mental Clutter to Become the Best You, A Short History of Nearly Everything, and The Double Cross (Someday Quilts Mystery, #3)--depending on what mood I'm in when I get there. I'm debating bringing some quilt projects as well, but I don't want to haul a bunch of supplies so that still remains to be seen.

message 32: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Jun 30, 2011 08:03AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It is a nasty bug going around. People who have already had it said it was a good month before they felt over it. :(

I'd like to do some quilting too. I purchased a block-of-the month kit from Keepsake with beautiful Tonga batiks and I almost have the 1st month done. The second month has arrived so I have that one to do as well. Do you have any quilts that just need the binding tacked down? That way you aren't taking a lot of supplies.

message 33: by Sandy (new)

Sandy H (sandyquiltz) Janice wrote: "Do you have any quilts that just need the binding tacked down?"

None that far along at this point. My current projects all require a sewing machine. However, I'm working on a hexie project for which I'm cutting hexagons whenever I have time but no brain power for sewing (using the Kaye Wood method of strips--very easy and accurate). However, I do need to mark all those hexies before I start sewing them so I'm thinking I may either just bring the hexies I've already cut so far and mark them; or I may bring my cutting mat and cutting supplies and cut more. But it's supposed to be beautiful and hot all weekend so I'll want to be outside as much as possible.

Which BOM are you doing?

message 34: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It's called "Tonga Nature" on the pattern but "Batik Nature" in the catalogue.

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It will be a challenge. :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments The weekend is here. What are you doing this weekend?

It's pouring rain here. I plan on sleeping in tomorrow, reading, maybe sewing. Maybe I can talk my husband into going in to a movie in the evening.

On Sunday, I'll be quilting. I belong to a group that gets together once a month on a Sunday to sew. I'll be working on the quilt shown in msg 35.

message 38: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Janice, where do you live? Where I live today is Thursday! :)

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I live in Alberta. Your profile says you're in Texas. Are you sure it's Thursday?

I had to really think about that because I always work at my one client's on Thursday. I worked there yesterday AND today. I kept thinking it was Thursday, but it's actually Friday.

message 40: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice What can I say? It's 5:04 in the morning here and I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm retired and I don't have my glasses on. You are right. It is Saturday morning. I'm going back to bed. :{

message 41: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments LOL! Thanks for the chuckle. You really had me going though. I woke up this morning and had to check to make sure it was Saturday. :)

message 42: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I am going to an outdoor theater in STL to see The Little Mermaid!

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments We were down at the river tonight. It's been raining non-stop for a couple of days and the river is flooding. The police are sitting at the north end of the bridge waiting to shut the road down.

message 46: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments It's a week since I posted that picture. The water level has dropped back down within the banks of the river, but it's still raining.

I will be working this weekend, and probably every day now till the end of the month. July is always such a busy month.

What plans does everyone have for this weekend?

message 47: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59850 comments I've been guilty of that myself, Anna. Today I was good and managed to get some work done.
