Ali I've read both and can't help but like Tess more.

Max *SHERlocked heart* Ummm maybe Clary. I dont mind Tess, she's alright, but Clary isnt as girly, and i'm more of a tomboy

Jessica I couldn't really choose they both have things that i love about them, and then they both do things that just makes me want to strangle them.

Maddie I really like how clary handles boys but I love that tessa didnt freak out when she realised she was in a supernatrual world, and also a love triangle :)

Unknow098765 Clary. I thought she was an awesome protagonist.

Taylor Clary. 100%

Sophia I like both and i cant help me but comparing them doesnt work somehow...

Tamara i think i might like tess...but i really dont know!! this is so hard!!

Unknow098765 Taylor wrote: "Clary. 100%"
Completely agree!

message 10: by Ally (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ally Clary......but maybe Tess once I've read all of the Clockwork books....I don't know. Time will tell.

message 11: by M. (new) - rated it 3 stars

M. Tess all the way. Clary is kind of annoying.

Lizzi I love Tess way more Clary starts to annoy me soo much, i honestly could care less about Clary now

Lizzi Sydney wrote: "I have read both books and I think Tessa is so much better! She isn't a whinny little brat who can't get over Jace..."
I agree!

Holly Spaulding I have read both books as well. I feel that there is more mystery with Tess. I have to agree that Clary is very whinny.

message 15: by Kath (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kath I hardly find Clary whiny at all-have you read Twilight? Fallen? Personally I found her to be the ultimate protagonist. I absolutely loved how she handled things in CoFA.
I'm looking forward to knowing Tessa more, but I found her timidness way more annoying than Clary's recklessness.

Artemis Both, I think, I really don't like comparing characters for some reason. I like how Tessa finally realized what Nate is like in CA, but I also like how Clary can talk back to boys.

Kath Artemis wrote: "Both, I think, I really don't like comparing characters for some reason. I like how Tessa finally realized what Nate is like in CA, but I also like how Clary can talk back to boys."

I agree! I guess I just wished that Tessa had a little more backtalk going with Will..I was used to Clary, so it almost felt like Tessa let Will walk all over her. From the CP teasers it sounds like that's changing, yet she'll probably never have all the witty replies Clary does.
Also- no one says we need to pick! we can love them both.

Artemis Exactly! I think I love all of the characters I've read about except whiny and stupid-stubborn ones.

message 19: by Kath (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kath Yeah, especially in Cassandra Clare's books. She creates awesome characters. I may like different ones for different reasons, and I tend to feel a certain loyalty to the ones I met first, but ultimately I love them all!

Lizzi I feel that i have to remind you that Tessa no being a tomboy or being timid is due to the era, you have to remember it was different times and she was brought up to act differently from the 21st century. I do like Clary in the first 3 books although i had trouble with CoFA i feel that she only wrote the book to make more money as the plot isn't apparent till the very end, and its all the same Jace and Clary want to make out, but Jace pushes her away.

Now that you say that, I guess they all have there characteristics that I like and dislike. I just want to read the next one.

message 22: by Kyla (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kyla I think that its kind of hard to compare the two girls. The reasoning I have for this is the fact that the books, are within two different periods. One book is based I'd say in the present, meanwhile the other book is based in the past. Because of this both Tessa, and Clary have different views on how to act depending on whats acceptable during those two different eras. I think that they are both awesome characters, and you cant really compare them.

Kath Lizzi wrote: "I feel that i have to remind you that Tessa no being a tomboy or being timid is due to the era, you have to remember it was different times and she was brought up to act differently from the 21st c..."

Oh no, I know it's because of the era and all. I just had a moment of Clary protectiveness. I actually do like Tessa very much :) I'd just gotten a little too used to Clary, and didn't really give myself time to adjust to the fact that it was a new series, new characters, new era. I get why some people would have issues with Clary, but considering all the other female leads I've had problems with, I really really like Clary. (that's not to say she doesn't have definite flaws! but that's what makes them good characters.)

I love how you worded that, very well said! I agree.

Jessica Kyla wrote: "I think that its kind of hard to compare the two girls. The reasoning I have for this is the fact that the books, are within two different periods. One book is based I'd say in the present, meanw..."

good point

Max *SHERlocked heart* I think, once the last books for both series come out i'll compare them, coz then i'll know both Clary and Tessa better then i first did

Cindy OMG, i feel the SAME SAME SAME!

Jessica wrote: "I couldn't really choose they both have things that i love about them, and then they both do things that just makes me want to strangle them."

Jessica haha I'm glad you agree cindy.

Wendy Darling I liked Clary a lot in COFA...but Tessa gets my vote. Love love love her ingenuity and grace under fire.

Jessica I really loved Tessa for those reasons too.

Victoria ugggggg i cant decide but probably clary bc i really know her character well by now but when i read more about tess i probably wont be able to decide :P

percabeth I'm going with Clary because she isn't as "girly" as Tessa (plus she's got jace) ;)

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

haha good one!! I will probably choose clary because of 2 reasons: 1. Jace 2. has amazing friends....

Tamara percabeth wrote: "I'm going with Clary because she isn't as "girly" as Tessa (plus she's got jace) ;)"

i dont think we can blame tess for her girlyness cause the story is set in the past and compared to...whats her name? god i cant remeber..that one chick who liked tess's brother..anyway im getting off topic. compared to her tess isnt that girly;)

Lucinda Tessa!!! She is a girl and acts like one!

Stacia (the 2010 club) Even before this question was posed, I've always said that Tessa was a much more interesting character than Clary.

Buffy I like Tessa a bit more. I love how she has no problem telling Will off.

"It was Will who broke the silence. "Very well. You have me alone in the corridor-"
"Yes, yes," said Tessa impatiently, "and thousands of women all over England would pay handsomely for the privilege of such an opportunity. Can we put aside the display of your wit for a moment? This is important."

Tamara Buffy wrote: "I like Tessa a bit more. I love how she has no problem telling Will off.

Jessica Buffy wrote: "I like Tessa a bit more. I love how she has no problem telling Will off.

Haha I love it!!! Love how she just shoots him down like that.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Tess, i like her becasue she shows more honour and abilitry in my eyes, Clary is a bit y'know Jace this Jace that character. Her mood is undescribable (if that makes sence). I go for Tessa, yeah she's cool.

kirky loves yoohz!! BAM!! tessa most deffinatly because after reading all 4 books clary just seems to....clingy in eyes....tessa is new and different AND there are 2 guys she likes...not a best friend and ur soulmate...so tessa has my vote (:

Waverley Tessa definitely, clary's way too needy and has to be with jace every minute(don't mind the jace part) but Tessa's more independent and knows who she is and what she wants!!!!!

Victoria Buffy wrote: "I like Tessa a bit more. I love how she has no problem telling Will off.

Clary always tells Jace off but its less since the other books came out....
im sure that'll happen to tessa too...

Sierra WHO IS TESS?!

Rhea Adore them both I cant choose!! Right now im more curious about Tess and I find it easier to understand her character than Clary's but I still love Clary and her storyline to pieces :)

HSLFP Rhea wrote: "Adore them both I cant choose!! Right now im more curious about Tess and I find it easier to understand her character than Clary's but I still love Clary and her storyline to pieces :)"
