Tess or Clary?

I liked Tess better, just because she was more useful than Clary was for most of the MI series. I mean, she destroyed that ship and all, but that wasn't until way later.

I like Clary but I can't help but like Tessa more. She's like this bad*ss Victorian English woman, and she had to step out of her comfort zone as a girl who believed women didn't usually fight to become that. I found Clary a bit annoying at times anyways
i can't say, i don't know Tess as well, because there is only one book in the series. I think both are badass though

Why thank you, I gave it a lot of thought before I decided on an answer. :)
I am alike with Tessa in ways. I love books. I don't want to cry in front of people I don't trust. I just don't understand why she has to let Will treat her like that. In Clary's case I think she's just too, too,... I can't describe her. WEAK in ways I won't understand. I have always considered Jace as the sole 'main character' never Clary.But still TMI won't be complete without her. She is strong and humble and I admire her for that.
Both of them are important and I couldn't say one is better than the other. So in short, I love them both and I will think of their strong points more than their weak points from now on.
i love both of them! I think most people like Clary more because people can easily relate to Clary since she lives in the same generation and time frame as us... Clary is very creative and sweet, and she's also brave and self-less. I love how she's so willing to do anything for Simon!! Tessa is also very sweet, and I think she is very intelligent. She's not as physically strong as Clary (for obvious reasons!! she lived 130 years ago), but mentally, she is strong enough to take Will's stupid comments... What i really like about Tessa is that she seems very mature and smart... haha
i love them both, but if i had to choose, i might be leaning with Tessa....

Clary. She's not that girly and is tough. I think Tessa is too emotional when it comes to her brother, and that's her weakness. :)
And I Clary get's too emotional when it comes to Jace. I think they both have their faults, but I do love them both. I still have to go with Tessa being my favorite though. Clary drove me crazy in the last book, which is sad cuz I loved her in all the other three books.
I like them both, but I like Tessa more, just because I feel like I relate more to her personality. But I think they are such strong female characters in YA fiction. Also, I kind of find it funny how hard girls are on girl characters in YA when the guy love interests can have just as many faults. And compared to a bunch of other heroines in YA, Clary's really not that whiny. She's pretty tough for a girl's who's life is completely altered almost overnight.
I like them both. I can't believe you're making me choose. Isn't that unfair? They're both strong characters with an awesome attitude. I really really love them both.
Tessa. She's funny. Clary annoys me half the time...
Definetely clary. She's always doing something and keeps the story interesting. Tessa is kind of useless, she waits around for trouble to find her.
Thank you. I mean, I like Jace and all, but sometimes the way he treats Clary and acts annoyed me a lot trhough the book. Even when Jace was so sarcastic during some the more serious situations, I liked how Clary didn't stay quiet but actually stood up to him and didn't let him give her crap. I think thats one of the reasons why Jace liked Clary. :)
Thats so true. lol, i dont know why I'm getting so worked u about this, but Cassie really has created amazing female characters. I don't like damsels in distress. No offense to people who like the Fallen books, but I seriously disliked Luce. I couldn't finish the rest of the series because I disliked her narration, and the story was so slow. :(

^ yeah, i think i also saw that post on tumblr. I think thats why I'm so determined to defend female characters. but what I love about her books are that she keeps switching up the POV so you never get bored. I hate series' that go on for like 10 books with the same nararrator droning on and on. Becomes so boring.
Definitely Tess. she is a survivalist, and unlike Clary she have no one to help here and yet doesn't complain. she is much cooler and mature than Clary. Love her
I love both! Its so hard comparing my two favourite characters!
The Mortal Instruments is a really nice series. The characters each have that special something that makes them different. But, with respect to Clary (and Jace) Sure they made a cute couple. Sure Jace is really hot. Sure they complete each other.But I don't like their personalities. Clary had this annoying tendency to believe distrust the person who loves her. She's stubborn, and rushes into things without thinking.
Jace is purely sarcastic. And thinks he's God's gift to humans. Don't like boys like that.
So I like Tess more. She sort of fits my description of a tough girl. Though you might say Clary is tough (in her own way). We see Tessa grow up from someone fragile and weak in spirit to a stronger person who has to face her internal emotional battles.
I would have to go with Tessa because i hope she picks will because i don't think she right for Jem

Tess, she's not as annoying as Clary and she is useful due to her ablity.
Tessa! But, this may be because I actually enjoy Clockwork Angel more than Mortal Instruments...please no incestuous themes in this series! (Can't wait for Clockwork Prince!)
Both of them are pretty Marry-sue.
I love the mortal instument but i think clary is a little anoying sometimes...i loved Tess so much...just my opinion(:
