Marianne | 7 comments I'm from Southeast Louisiana, a little town called Walker. It's generally pretty hot, humid, and miserable down here this time of year, but this weekend we've been dealing with Tropical Storm Lee. We've had 8 1/2" of rain in two days! Perfect weather for reading lol!

I am also from southeast LA and I have to agree the storm made a perfect reason to stay indoors and read! I am enjoying the cool weather of today though too bad I had to work today so no sitting outside on my front porch swing enjoying a good book.:(

As an "Old West" buff, Ada, Oklahoma plays a big role in history. Killin' Jim Miller, who was probably the most feared of all the old time outlaws, meet his demise in Ada. A mob of citizens crashed the jail and hanged him and 3 com-padres for the shooting death of an Ada resident.

Tracy (tjohn33791) I'm just a history buff in general and a old west buff in particular. I'll post a link to this particular event when I have time.

Tracy (tjohn33791) http://www.legendsofamerica.com/we-ja...

It's a 3 page story but well worth the time.
If you want to just jump to the Ada portion of the story it is the last paragraph on page 3.

Abby (setapartghoul) | 14 comments Sorry, I am a little behind...

Rachel: Ada? Nice! That's actually not too far from were I am now! Do you visit the OK much?

Tracy: History buff. That is awesome. I am a history buff as well, but I must admit I am not as well versed in the Ol' West. Perhaps mostly just with California's Gold Rush era under the topic of westward expansion. The areas of historical interest I lean toward the most are early America, Medieval Europe, and Ancient Israel. (Yes, I am all over the page, hah) Anyway, thank you for sharing the story/link!

Abby,

I was visiting one of my favorite used book stores and I picked up a book on California history "A History of the Golden State". It starts with the first Californians and goes through 1972. If you are interested I could send it to you when I'm finished reading it. Let me know if you're interested.
