Stefan Wit | 4 comments Hi,

I started a blog on my goodreads author page, but am pretty clueless when it comes to html stuff. Anyone know how to upload an image from your computer to your Goodreads blog? Some direction (in layman's terms) would be very useful. Thanks.
Stefan.

message 2: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (fiona64) You need to have the image loaded to another site (like Photobucket or Flickr). The img tag on Goodreads only works with a web address.

message 3: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Wit | 4 comments Well that makes sense, sort of...
Thanks v much Sharon, for the input.

Sylvia Massara (sylvia_massara) My blog feed goes into my Goodreads profile.

Cheers,

Therese Gilardi | 7 comments that's what mine does as well. although it seems to take a bit of time to update. and the goodreads feed does not show the comments, which is weird.

message 8: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I read and review books for authors on my blog. I also do giveaways when authors provide me w/ copies for my followers. I have over 150 followers currently.
I'm doing a giveaway right now actually, stop by and check it out!

I always post my reviews to goodreads, but I don't use goodread's blog.

Emma Calin (emmacalin) | 9 comments Hi Stefan

I don't know much about all the teccy stuff, but my son told me it would be best to have my blog hosted on a blogging tool site - and then feed that into everything else.

So I have a blog on Blogger.com which is part of Google where I post everyday. You can link all the blog address/feeds to all the places where you are trying to get seen such as your website, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads of course!

The blog shows up automatically, usually within minutes in all these locations. It's great as it means I can just concentrate on the post content and not on the sending.

I was really impressed with Blogger as it gives you easy templates to use to determine the layout and style of your Blog. You can add photos and video clips to it and as well as hyperlinks.

It also provides totally addictive daily/weekly and monthly stats for numbers of visitors, where in the world they are, which pages they have viewed.

You can see mine at http://emmacalin.blogspot.com

Good luck with whichever way you decide to go and happy blogging

Emma

message 11: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (httpgoodreadscomelaine_chaika) I have 2 blogs on blogger (on very different topics), but being a technological moron, I don't know what address I'd use to have them on Amazon. I have my 1st blog on Goodreads, but they won't allow a second one. Since I am doing the new blog preparatory to writing a well-researched book on dogs, I wanted the blog (1) to get my name associated with the topic and (2) to get comments on my posts, criticisms, questions, and, of course, to allow readers to input their experiences with their dogs.
I would appreciate someone telling me how to get my blog on Amazon and Facebook.

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma Calin (emmacalin) | 9 comments I have an author page on Amazon and this lets you put in your blog address - this then comes up when anyone searches you out on Amazon. The website to set up your author page is called authorcentral.com and is part of the Amazon group (but make sure you go to authorcentral.co.uk for the Amazon.co.uk author details as for some reason it is separated?!).

I also use a site called Twitterfeed and this lets me put in my Facebook and Twitter home addresses and automatically feeds the blog to them each time I post it. (It probably lets you do others too but that is as far as I have got)

Hope that helps.

Emma

Emma Calin (emmacalin) | 9 comments Your blog address is listed on Blogger - login and select the blogger dashboard (top right) and then select the Settings tab and choose the Publishing tab under that and it will tell you your blogspot address - e.g. mine is http://www.emmacalin.blogspot.com This is what you use in Twitterfeed to get your blog out there.

You can also SELL your blog on Amazon - people pay to receive it daily on a monthly basis (no-one has bought mine though!) - they pay about £10 a month I think.

Cheers
Emma

Harini Gopalswami Srinivasan (harinigs) I'm a new member and read all the above posts eagerly. However, I have no other blog or website. Could anyone tell me how to upload an image without a link onto the GR blog?

message 15: by rivka (new)

rivka Harini wrote: "Could anyone tell me how to upload an image without a link onto the GR blog?"

This is not possible. The picture needs to be hosted elsewhere.

message 16: by Harini (new)

Harini Gopalswami Srinivasan (harinigs) Thanks, Rivka.

message 17: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Harini, I use photobucket.com to host my images. It's free, but you have to set up an account.

If you don't want an account and just want to get the HTML code to set up images every now and again, you could use a site where you don't have to create a login. I used to use this one before I signed up with photobucket: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

message 18: by Harini (new)

Harini Gopalswami Srinivasan (harinigs) Hey Delaney, thanks so much! That's a great help. I'll do it right away -- I have this really silly drawing of a crocodile I've been struggling to upload, God knows why! But I'm fond of it, so look out!

Hi Kimberley, I am looking for reviews of my romance 'Knockout!' and I noticed from your blog that you do consider other genre in addition to historical fiction. If you have the time to add another to your list I will be very happy to gift you a copy for your kindle and also will provide 3 free e-copies for a giveaway to your readers as I notice you do regular giveaways.

Blurb:
Interpol cop, Anna Leyton, spirals down into a hopeless vortex of sexual and emotional passion as she fights to keep her professional cool. Who is deceiving who in this fast moving ride across continents? What motivates her art loving prize-bull of a lover Freddie La Salle? The power of love and trust stands against greed and crime as conflicting forces grapple for that knockout punch.

Let me know if you are interested.
Best wishes with for the new school year!

Ted Summerfield (ted_summerfield) | 46 comments I setup an author blog on Goodreads the other day, and I have my main blog hosted by wordpress. The first and only post at this time on Goodreads is on why I enjoy writing ebooks for children.

For hosting pictures I use Shaw, my Internet Service Provider in Canada, that allows clients to host their own web pages.

Check your ISP and see if they offer personal web space or personal web hosting with ftp access. You can get free ftp software, so the cost is still zero.

I use ftp to upload a picture to my personal web page, then link that image to another web site when required.

Here is an example of linking from my Shaw web site to here:

message 23: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Gerardo (carolinegerardo) | 3 comments To add on Amazon you have to have an author page- Author Central sign up play with the links they also only allow one feed. The way it reads on Goodreads and Amazon is not formatted the mirror image- for example I write poetry and short fiction with images these will not appear the same columns or order
Amazon has many links to describe each click step - print the directions then just press the buttons.

Stephen Livingston | 15 comments I have a blog here on goodreads and on wordpress too.

Tracy Johnson | 3 comments Ive had a blog for 3 or 4 years
http://www.lasttangoinbuenosaires.com
Which was supposed to be the support to the book (FINALLY published this June). Wile it was handy for the WIP as I received many messages anout women's tortured relationship with the Latino, it is now not serving me as eith author or book blog as the readers are engrossed in their relationship problems not so interested in books.
Now I have to start over with an author blog - fyi make sure your blog is market directed.
I have a new blog at
http://www.backyardguides.com
which will direct the new tour guides and cookbooks that Im working on - I published a tourism newspaper here for 2 years
Still got to get the author blog going but its got to be very directional not just self.
The blog at litchickshow.com seems brilliant - the future is people hosting their own tv via blogs

My latest blog post (on Wordpress) did not update to Goodreads either. I sent an email to Goodreads but as yet haven't received an answer. Hope Goodreads can get this worked out!

rivka The initial fix we tried on this problem doesn't seem to have done the trick. Someone should be working on the issue again tomorrow.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Robert Zwilling | 8 comments This is a sample of what is found at the bottom of each blog posting:

Published on April 06, 2012 23:33 • 4 views • Tags:

Where does the "4 views" come from? What are people clicking on to make the view number increase?

Where is the search option in goodreads website to search authors blogs on goodreads?

What is the purpose of the tag words?

message 32: by Robert (new)

Robert Zwilling | 8 comments I now see that the blog is accessible to search engines so it is little more than random hits.

Where is this located in the goodreads website?

Angela Bertone (angelabertone) | 2 comments I just added my blog to my Goodreads account. As you may already know, you must have an author profile to do this. It was really pretty simple. I just read the author tutorial and it took me step by step. I added a feed from my blog on my website. Hope this helps

message 34: by Linda (new)

Linda Lewis | 8 comments The last time my blog feed updated here on Goodreads was April 11. I see this is a known problem, and the first "fix" didn't work. So I'm wondering, when it's fixed, will all the missing posts appear, or will it pick up from the fix date?

message 35: by rivka (new)

rivka Linda wrote: "when it's fixed, will all the missing posts appear"

Yes. I believe that's actually part of the problem, as that's a lot of posts to import at once.

Ah-ha. Thanks for the response.

message 37: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Brown | 276 comments We're importing blog posts again now. If you don't see yours show up in the next day or so, let me know. Thanks for your patience!

Ted Summerfield (ted_summerfield) | 46 comments Harini wrote: "I'm a new member and read all the above posts eagerly. However, I have no other blog or website. Could anyone tell me how to upload an image without a link onto the GR blog?"

Some cable companies offer subscribers the ability to have their own web site. See if your cable/Internet provider offers personal web sites for subscribers. If so, read about how to do it and how to upload images. Then create your personal web site and upload your image(s) to it.

You can then link your pictures on your web site to goodreads or anywhere else that doesn't allow direct uploading.

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori (writerlorismith) | 11 comments I've been trying to add my blog feeds to my Goodreads blog, with no success. Every time I try, I get the error "External feed url doesn't seem to exist," although the feeds syndicate elsewhere. Both my blogs are on Wordpress (links below). Is this part of the problem I've seen discussed here? Looks like that issue was fixed. Hmm... Any ideas?

many thanks,

Jaq - I would love some help/tips about getting my wordpress blog to post to Goodreads - for the life of me, I can't seem to find out how, the correct code.

message 42: by rivka (new)

rivka Jon, you appear to already have a blog linked to your profile, with the most recent post from yesterday, and a total of 22 posts.

message 43: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon_michaelsen) | 14 comments Rivka - I'm cross-posting on both sites; what does 22 points mean?

message 44: by rivka (new)

rivka 22 individual entries have imported from an external feed.
