Aka1010 | 12 comments I borrowed this book at my high school library..
I actually looked this book up online a couple of years ago and remember on lapl it said the book was published I think 1998..I remember this because I thought the book was much newer than that..
the setting is a village like what you would imagine in fairytale settings without the prince or princess..

a girl can see Death since she was little..and saw it when her parents died? I think the villagers might have seen her as a curse..She moves in to her neighbors?? Definitely not sure on that..but she is living with other people. Now that she is older she sees Death again when someone close to her is very ill..and so she makes a deal with Death to save the person(who might be an old man). I don't think they ever call Death, the Grim Reaper..Death is described wearing black clothing?..and I think he had a horse too..so now the girl is following him..or more like has to..

the cover of the book I remember a girl in the woods wearing red cloak like red riding hood..but she's facing the other way so you only see her backside as shes walking..

Kris | 215 comments My first thought was "Soul Music" by Terry Pratchett. "Mort" involves Death, but it's a boy not a girl. "Reaper Man" has Death living on a farm as a handyman to an elderly lady.

Soul Music Hogfather and Thief of Time also deal with Death and his granddaughter. Possibly one of these? But I don't think they are quite that old. But hey--any chance to comment on one of Pratchetts wonderful books can't be passed up. :o)

Aka1010 | 12 comments thanks for the replies but it's none of those :[

I remember looking up the author online and I think it's a female because I think she wrote other books something like giving tips to girls growing up?

and it sorta has a romantic feeling with the girl and Death? ..I think he might have protected her when they encountered some people in the woods...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 218 comments This sounds a lot like Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt, although the dates aren't matching that well.
This cover, especially:
Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt
