**Winter Reading Challenge**
WOW! Emily, thats a magnificent list!!!! The Book Thief = ★★★★★
The Hunger Games= ★★★★★
Catching Fire= ★★★★★
Animal Farm=★★★★.5
And Ive never read a bad review of Cloudstreet.
(Is that 'thank you Jessica) next to Catching Fire referring to me and my ranting about its amazingness? If so, you're welcome & I hope you love it!)
Haha. Its cause I stole it from you. But everyone is reading the Hunger Games and I didn't want to feel left out.
Woo Hoo - happy Winter everyone. Have picked up my whimpering book, given him a cuddle and resumed reading :)
Now it's hard to decide what to start from, so many choices :) Finally picked up A Thousand Splendid Suns

A tad tragic :)
But Im still finishing RAGE, I'll start this Winter Challenge soon.
I missed the grand opening - being in bed and asleep - but I've got the early shift at work today, so I've got 1 hours reading time, starting now! Read On McDuff!
Happy 1 June everyoneI have kicked off the challenge by picking up Drums of Autumnwhich has been lurking on my TBR list. Its the 4th in a series of a silly historical romance that I need to finish to get it out of my system.
Have a great day, its magnificent up here in Cairns so sending you warm and sunny thoughts.

Pinch and a punch on the first day of the month :) Got twenty pages left of 'Rage', which I love. Will start this challenge tomorrow.
Brenda wrote: "Haha!!! Haven't heard that in awhile Jessica! Glad you're enjoying Rage so much:)"Oh, everyone was saying it at school today :)
I was kinda hoping someone would say 'kick and a flick for being so quick', so I could respond with 'slip and a slap for talking crap'
:D
Well, my favorite 'funny expression' is: -'calm your farm'
Unlike the ones mentioned in message #343, that is said quite a few times a week, by everyone :)
-'Whatevs Trevs'
is also pretty popular

Jacinta, I won't tell the romance readers you think the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon is "silly". They'd be outraged.
Now if I were a mean old grandma I'd point out you say you need to get it out of your system. Hmm...
Actually I've only read the first one. Personally I enjoyed it, though it seems to be one of those books/series you either love or hate. Most people love it! Some say it runs out of steam after the first few titles.
What I say is, being a historical fiction nut and romance writer, is enjoy it without shame "even" though it is a romance!
Monya (aka Mary)
Let me know what you think Mountain_goat...I have tha...I have that here to read....one day;) Well, so far it is very very good, it's hard to put the book down.

"Ha ha, yes I am sure my attitudes generally to romance books would disappoint true fans of the genre. I personally prefer books with fewer unlikely happy or fortuitous events to test the characters.
Enjoy your day everyone.
I also missed the grand opening ... tooo cold to be up late here. Anyway today I started No. 4 which for me is Songs in Ordinary Time. It's more than 700 pages - could take awhile!

How is Rage? I read it ages ago and liked it, but I can't figure out if I liked it because I was so young at the time. Considering a re-read.
Brenda, I'm scared too! I'm only on p.4 so it's going to be a long haul. I have been wanting to read it for ages, but keep putting it off (same with Anna Karenina.
Ljuke, I gave 'Rage' three stars. Im not sure if I liked it, or was just fascinated. How old were you? Im 15 now. Heres my review, if you are interested: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I am kicking off the winter challenge with 'a book by an aussie author, or with an Aussie landscape/locale' I am also using this as part of my 'Aussie Authors Challenge'.
I am reading Mice by Gordon Reece
Finsihed my first book for this challenge Post Grad. It wasn't amazingly good nor that bad..Just not my norm. Can certainly see it as a movie though.
I've finished the first book of the challenge (no. 10 on the list) but as it's a 2-book book, I'm now 1/2 way through the 2nd book One way or another. Must say, I'm enjoying this one more than The Knight and Death.

Ha, I was about 15 too. Nice review. Apparently SK let it fall out of print because actual high school shootings have been "inspired" by the book. You don't own any guns, right?
Here's my Winter Challenge reads. I’ve listed quite a few Aussie authors to the collection to read over the next three months. 1.Pick a book that has a warm or summery theme on the cover (to make you feel cosy)
The white earth by Andrew McGahan
2..It's a great time to bundle up and just spend a day reading. Pick a book from your TBR list!
Bite Meby Parker Blue (review copy, eBook)
3..It's International Children's Day on the 1st of June. Why not find a YA novel or a picture book to read?
Starcrossed: Perigeeby Tracey L Campbell (eBook)
4..With World Environment Day and National Tree Day coming up why not BORROW a book from the libary/friend or pick one out of your TBR list. OR if you own an e-reader why not read a book through it instead? No purchases of books are allowed for this one! ;)
Vampires Rule by K.C Blake (eBook review copy)
5..We all love snuggling up in front of the fire to watch our favourite movies, well with the Melb International Film Festival on 21/7 to 7/8 how about choosing a book which has been transformed into a movie.
Hmm.. perhaps I will read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
6..a) Read a book where a word in the title has to relate to a wintery theme or
b) The chosen wintery word has to begin with a letter from the word WINTER.
Winter's Shadow by M.J. Hearle
7..Read an Aussie author's book or books with an Aussie landscape/locale in it.
Airmail by Naomi Bulger
8..Choose a New Release which will be out somewhere in the 3 month period of Winter... either purchase, or borrow from the library and enjoy!
Me of the Never Never by Fiona O’Loughlin (I am lucky to be on the list for an ARC review copy!)
9..Pick a friend on your GR list and also select and read a book they have read. Never know, you might find something new to enjoy!
Fallen by Lauren Kate- it’s on many of my GR friend’s list.
10..Curl up beside the fire and grab yourself a book full of suspense or murder! You might even spook yourself if it's rainy and windy and there is a murder going on within your book!
According to Luke by Rosanne Dingli- I think this is the first crime thriller I have read
Happy reading everyone :-)
