Sean Peters | 16 comments Well as mentioned previously and they are great books Vince Flynn, and his Mitch Rapp.

I would like a books with Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp and Will Robie, that would be action packed !!

Such a shame that Vince Flynn died last year at the young age of 46.

message 102: by Ty (new)

Ty Patterson | 9 comments Sean, if you added Robert Crais's Joe Pike to that mix..now that would be thriller Nirvana..

message 103: by Erik (new)

Erik Barnes | 3 comments Jonathon King's Max Freeman is very good. They are much shorter and all located in the Everglades area.

Arkopaul Das | 2 comments If you like lee child then you should also try out david badlacci. His writing is brilliant and if you love his works you're gonna get hooked.I only red 'The innocent' and I loved that novel .i will look forward to reading the next novels

sallywelsh | 1 comments I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva. I've read them all and loved them and I'm a pretty picky reader. My favorites are Lee Child, Robert Crais and Stephen Hunter. I need to go back and catch up with Michael Connelly. Another I've not seen mentioned here is the 'Doc' Ford series by Randy Wayne White.

message 106: by Mullayo (new)

Mullayo | 13 comments I too love the Reacher novels and have read them all. Bit of a crime novel buff, so if you're not concerned about a recurring central protagonist.
I recommend Jeff Abbot books like Adrenaline, Run etc. more spy orientated.
The Butcher Boy novels by Thomas Perry about a retired hitman whose identity is compromised are moreish too.

Brett Battles series about a cleaner is interesting and techy.
The Steig Larsson series is worth a read too
OLD SCHOOL
Anything by Elmore Leonard in the 70s and 80s.
Walter Mosley - Clinton's favourite author, historical 1940-50s from a black point of view.
Tartan Noir: Ian Rankin's Rebus and William McIllvanney's Laidlaw are dark, brilliant and brooding.
Charles Willeford anything by him is quality.
Obscure Kiwi author Paul Thomas Ihaka series Inside Dope and Final Cut, are the best but more blackly comical. Empty Bed is sadder stand alone.
Raymond Chandler and Dashiel Hammett of course.

Bru (brucoder) | 107 comments Mod
Hey, if you're going old school how about Ross MacDonald (Lew Archer) and John D. MacDonald (Travis McGee). Probably more comparable to Jack Reacher than Chandler or Hammett which are more liken to Robert B. Parker and his Spenser.

@Mullayo, thanks for Brett Battles...I love any tech related writers. Thanks for the input!

Mullayo | 13 comments No worries Bru, I just read that Linwood Barclay Tap at the Window that someone recommended. I really liked it, it stayed within the bounds of believability which a lot of writers chuck out the window in the final chapters.
If you like Ross McDonald - and I do, although it's always sins of the father themed and a bit genteel for me - you'll like this one because apparently he inspired Barclay and they became pen pals when he was in college.
Unfortunately I think it's a stand alone...so far anyway.
Never got into Travis McDonald, might give him another try.

Pierre Lalonde (petemoon) | 17 comments Hey out there, I just finished reading a great novel by Joseph Finder "Buried Secrets". Very well written, keeps you on edge.

Petermoon, I have to agree. I've read a couple of JF books and they're all very good. He likes to keep them "business themed" which is always fun if you run your own company.

Mullayo | 13 comments Just reading the Barry Eisler Rain series about the Japanese assassin. I lived in Japan for 3 years so I enjoy practicing my rubbish Japanese translations and the culture clash analysis which is pretty spot on.
Also has their authentic finicky obsession with food, jazz and whisky. In fact it captures the whole country realistically so I recommend it thoroughly. Save you the plane fare.

I was in Japan once (Yakota AFB). Definitely a culture shock. Whereas in Europe everyone is bilingual, Japan is not. They even take the time to create shellacked imitations of their food in the windows so you can point to what you want without speaking Japanese. You are a real stranger in a strange land there.

message 113: by Mullayo (new)

Mullayo | 13 comments It's a different world alright. An old culture, highly reluctantly adapting in often bizarre ways to modern times.

message 114: by Pierre (new)

Pierre Lalonde (petemoon) | 17 comments Have any of you read Adrenaline by J Abbot. Great novel i think we are due to have a kick ass girl like Mila ...deadly and no one plays games with her.

Yeah I recommended the whole Abbot series above. He keeps things moving along nicely.
If you like those try the Butcher Boy series by Thomas Perry about a reitred hitman dragged back into the game to clean up loose ends.

message 116: by Pierre (new)

Pierre Lalonde (petemoon) | 17 comments Sounds good!! After Abbot I will read the Butcher Boy..thanks.
Have you heard of new novels similar to our reads like very new stuff.

Brett Battles the Cleaner series about a Cleaner and his apprentice were fun.

Jeff | 2 comments Hi All....

New to this group as I have not Read a Jack Reacher book, but was about to start. I have read the following series and hoping this will be my next obsession; John Corey (DeMille), Mitch Rapp (Flynn), Scot Harveth (Thor), Pike Logan (Taylor), and Court Gentry (Greaney).

Are there any others out there I should be reading?

message 119: by Bru (new)

Bru (brucoder) | 107 comments Mod
John Sandford (Lucas Davenport). In the same series he adopts a tougher than nails backwoods teenager in I think "Naked Prey(no 14)" She comes in very handy in "Wicked Prey (no 19)". A lot of fun there! Very few authors write as well as John Sandford.

Wow Thomas Perry! Totally forgot about him. But my preference there is his Jane Whitefield series. She's from a tribe near mine (Penobscot) up in NY and she makes people being hunted disappear. Its kind of like being educated in anticipating trouble. https://www.goodreads.com/series/4166...

message 122: by Mullayo (new)

Mullayo | 13 comments I've read one of the Whitefield novels and a few of the Sandford Davenport/Prey series but personally prefer the Virgil Flowers spinoffs and the Butcher Boy series.
Might give the Whitefields another go though.

message 123: by Chinmoy (new)

Chinmoy Gayan | 4 comments I am really happy to find this thread as I am a huge Reacher fan.Thank you all for your contribution .I am definately go for few recommandation. Thanks again:-)

message 124: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 2 comments So I started Killing Floor on Monday based on this thread. It's now Wednesday morning and somehow I am now done. Really glad I started this as I now have a new character up there with Rapp, Corey, Logan, and Harveth. Off to download "Die Trying".....

message 125: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (mrscarm) I started the series with Killing Floor too and it was and continues to be my favourite in the Reacher series! Enjoy getting to know Jack.

message 126: by Arkopaul (new)

Arkopaul Das | 2 comments Anyone here heard about Sue Grafton ? I am not sure if her books are worth reading or not.
I also like Jack Reacher so I am trying to get the whole series as my collection.

message 127: by Robert (new)

Robert shapiro | 1 comments I think that Robert Parker's Spenser is the most like Reacher, big and a reticent fighter. But smart and action packed.

I read all the Spenser books and all the Reacher books. I'm looking for the next.

message 128: by Gareth (new)

Gareth Egerton (gegerton) | 5 comments The "Travis McGee" series by John D MacDonald. The first book in the series is "The Deep Blue Goodbye". McGee's pretty much a proto-Reacher. In fact, in the re-issues on Kindle, the introduction is written by Lee Child. Replacing Carl Hiaasen who did it previously.

message 129: by George (new)

George J | 1 comments Having like most and read all Reacher novels and tried many others, the closest I can find is the Travis McGee books by John McDonald. A great character :)

message 130: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Mcbeath | 1 comments I absolutely love the Jack Reacher books. Nobody else in my life does, so I haven't been able to vent. Who on earth felt that it was a good idea to cast Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Aren't there fairly obvious physical differences! Is there anything people won't do for money?

message 131: by Brian (new)

Brian Rueger (skypilot49) | 10 comments Lisa,
The casting of Cruise as Reacher was discussed at length over in General/What Reacher should look like --. You might want to check it out.
Yes, it was generally poopoo'd and I agree, but I fell that Cruise did a pretty good job - except for the physical characteristics.

Hey I think I found an author that has created a carbon copy of Jack Reacher. The author is British. The character is huge lives exactly like Reacher, and he's forsaken by his naval intelligence and made to fend on his own. I hope Lee Child doesn't find out about this book. He's going to be very upset at the ripoff, lol.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Andrew Grant "Even" ..the first of 2 books. So far it's a good read. Grab it from the library because its been around for a while.

Brian Rueger (skypilot49) | 10 comments Interesting, thanks for the tip. I'm always looking for new authors.

Hum, not the best Goodreads reviews......

message 134: by Bru (new)

Bru (brucoder) | 107 comments Mod
Whoops, didn't read the write up. The author is Lee Child's brother. AHH-HAA as they say.

message 135: by Bru (new)

Bru (brucoder) | 107 comments Mod
Brian, yes I see that too. I'll have to finish the book and see what they mean about the ending. So far the author is just a little heavy on the background descriptions and he's stretching my believability meter on the incompetence of the police and FBI, ...but still its fun to read an exact clone of Reacher. ;-)

message 136: by Ty (new)

Ty Patterson | 9 comments Try Sean Black's Ryan Lock series, Tom Wood's Victor the Aasassin series.

Some say mine are like Reacher books, though I personally don't think they are.

I agree with John. Crais' books in general and Joe Pike in particular are comparable and enjoyable!

message 141: by Jeanne (new)

Yes, I think Will Robie is very good, and I am enjoying getting to know that character as well as Baldacci's John Puller character. Worthy reads all of them!

Edward Callaghan | 1 comments I can jump in on this old one and thoroughly recommend Scott Mariani - his Ben Hope novels are as good

message 150: by Roddy (new)

Roddy | 16 comments I have not read all 153 comments but has Harlan Coben ( Myron Bolitar ) been mentioned yet? I have read 3 ( of 7) so far and all have been hard to put down. The sidekick 'Win' character is great.
