I love Series books. Just the fact that you know what you can read next. and after a book i love i tend to want more of the . so when it is a standalone book, i get all upset because there IS NO MORE!

what is your Favourite Series? and what do you love about that series.

message 2: by April (new)

April Inman (illustratergirl) | 64 comments Hmmm. I have so many favorites I can't keep up with them lol! So I'll just name what's at the moment.

The mortal Instruments series -Cassandra Clare

The Morganville series -Rachel Caine

I could go on...

message 4: by H.K. (new)

H.K. Savage | 57 comments Based upon fellow members' recommendations, I just finished the Black Dagger Brotherhood book 1. It was good. I knew where it was going, but how often don't we anymore? Either way, the characters were enjoyable and the premise was a neat/different take on vampires. It would be another series to take a look at. Seriously though, I cannot recommend the Soulless series by Gail Carriger enough. Super fun as well.

I've Read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. love it. the Point of view always threw me off, and some bits of it(when they to a diffrent) were i found just pointless.
but i enjoyed the series (mmm hot hot hot) and eagerly await to get my hands on the next one.

Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs. I'm Reading that now for the 3rd or 4th time now(i have lost track). i'm reading the #6(the latest) book now. i love it! the series has your fair share of vampires, fae and warewolves. to satisfy the paranormal urge. however it is written like a YA book. while it can be a bit violent, sex scenes are left to your imagination (they kiss and cuddle and then the author moves it to the next scene which is the after sex! ugh! frustrating!). other than that smallish complaint i love the series

What part of the country do you live in? Both Ilona Andrews and Chloe Neill will be signing together in Houston on August 7th and I will be there. So excited!

message 15: by Jenelle (new)

Jenelle I really love Sarah Ash's Lord of Snow and Shadows (and the next two books in the trilogy) kind of a crazy fantasy-twist on the idea of vampires/dragons. Incredibly well-set up world (and unique, too)

message 21: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (quill_n_ink) | 5 comments Recently finished the first three books of the Dominion Series by S.E. Lund. Dominion (Dominion, #1) by S.E. Lund I was hooked from the very beginning. Very dark, very intense story with complex characters that I love and a few characters that I love to hate! The 4th book in the series will be out sometime in 2013. Having a hard time moving on to another series. I may have to re-read this one first...

message 22: by Brandy (new)

Brandy Nacole (brandynacole) Small list:
Vampire Academy
Bloodlines
The Grey Wolves
The Alexa Montgomery Saga
Covenant Series

Of course there are more! These are my top favs.

message 23: by Katie (new)

Katie Edmonds | 5 comments Best series ever, in my opinion, is the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. My sister recommended it to me and I thought "Fantasy?, that's not really my thing" but eventually I gave in. I love the snark, wit and humor that is crammed into these books and while I was hesitant to embrace the fantasy world, I'm so glad I did because it is built so well and manages to be integrated with the real world (the series is set in Atlanta, not some alien planet or "middle earth")

that is actually next on my list. I 'm reading the lords of the underworld series right now. and whatever else by gena showalter. they seem to be all connected somehow it's pretty good.
but thanks for the rec. I was hesitating on reading Kate Daniels series next as I hadn't heard anything about it. ...now I have . see this topic does work.. hooray I did something right! lol

message 26: by Katya (last edited Jun 08, 2013 05:04AM) (new)

Katya Vampires in America by D.B. Reynolds
Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds Jabril (Vampires in America, #2) by D.B. Reynolds Rajmund (Vampires in America, #3) by D.B. Reynolds Sophia (Vampires in America, #4) by D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America The Vignettes, Volume 1 (Vampires in America, #5.1) by D.B. Reynolds Duncan (Vampires in America, #5) by D.B. Reynolds Betrayed A Cyn & Raphael Novella (Vampires in America, #5.5) by D.B. Reynolds Lucas (Vampires In America, #6) by D.B. Reynolds Aden (Vampires in America, #7) by D.B. Reynolds

Great Characters, storyline is action packed and overall well written story. Great descriptive scenes and love the attraction and emotion of the characters. Raphael is the strongest of a circle of American Vampire Lords who rule the land.

Awakened by Blood by Marie Treanor
Blood on Silk (Awakened by Blood, #1) by Marie Treanor Blood Sin (Awakened by Blood, #2) by Marie Treanor Blood Eternal (Awakened by Blood, #3) by Marie Treanor Blood Guilt (Blood Hunters, #1) by Marie Treanor Blood of Angels (Blood Hunters, #2) by Marie Treanor Blood Descent (Blood Hunters, #3) by Marie Treanor

Researcher who is studying Romanian Folk Lore for her PHD mistakenly awakens a staked vampire who is compelled to drain his awakener to regain his power...but keeps putting it off as he is drawn to her and she to him. There is a reason he was staked since the 1600's. Great world building, mystery and sex appeal. Hero is bad but good....really enjoyed the story. First three books are the trilogy and rest are the Vampire Hunter stories.

New Species by Laurann Dohner
Fury (New Species, #1) by Laurann Dohner Slade (New Species, #2) by Laurann Dohner Valiant (New Species, #3) by Laurann Dohner Justice (New Species, #4) by Laurann Dohner Brawn (New Species, #5) by Laurann Dohner Tiger (New Species, #7) by Laurann Dohner Wrath (New Species, #6) by Laurann Dohner Obsidian (New Species, #8) by Laurann Dohner Shadow (New Species, #9) by Laurann Dohner Moon (New Species, #10) by Laurann Dohner True (New Species, #11) by Laurann Dohner

Unaffected by our society humans who were created in a lab, their DNA mixed with animal DNA, abused, mistreated and now living free from the labs. They want something and someone just for themselves and in return they are loyal, loving and protective. Not terribly complicated but fun, emotional and sexy story.

Sentinel Wars by Shannon K. Butcher
Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher Finding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. Butcher Running Scared (Sentinel Wars, #3) by Shannon K. Butcher Living Nightmare (Sentinel Wars, #4) by Shannon K. Butcher On the Hunt (Includes Sentinel Wars #3.5, Nightkeepers #5.5, Gods of Midnight, #4.5) by Gena Showalter Blood Hunt (Sentinel Wars, #5) by Shannon K. Butcher Bound by Vengeance (Sentinel Wars, #5.5) by Shannon K. Butcher Dying Wish (Sentinel Wars, #6) by Shannon K. Butcher Falling Blind (Sentinel Wars, #7) by Shannon K. Butcher

Otherworldly, warriors join up with vampire-like warriors to fight demons who threaten to take over the earth and consume humans. They mate with women and fight together as a pair. The female is the warrior who draws on power from the male to defeat the demons. World building is amazing.

Elemental Mysteries by Elizabeth Hunter
A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter This Same Earth (Elemental Mysteries, #2) by Elizabeth Hunter The Force of Wind (Elemental Mysteries, #3) by Elizabeth Hunter A Fall of Water (Elemental Mysteries #4) by Elizabeth Hunter Building From Ashes (Elemental World, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter Waterlocked (Elemental World, #1.5) by Elizabeth Hunter Blood and Sand (Elemental World, #2) by Elizabeth Hunter

Read first four books which are a series and the rest a spin off series. AMAZING series. Different take on vampires where they take on an element: Earth, Water, Air and the most dangerous and rare - Fire. Book 1 is slow and plodding and then erupts in book 2...really great story and emotional relationship.

The Graveyard Queen by Amanda Stevens
The Abandoned (Graveyard Queen #0.5) by Amanda Stevens The Restorer (Graveyard Queen, #1) by Amanda Stevens The Kingdom (Graveyard Queen, #2) by Amanda Stevens The Prophet (Graveyard Queen, #3) by Amanda Stevens The Visitor (Graveyard Queen #4) by Amanda Stevens

Wonderful series, has a UF feel to it. Woman (Amelia) restores cemeteries and see's ghosts...get's involved in serial murder mystery and yummy detective who is investigating the case. What she can see (and not him) is he is being haunted by his ex-wife and daughter who are deceased. Takes place in South Carolina, lots of great characters both shifty and sweet. Creepy and fun to read.

My favorite is probably The Mortal Instruments (Books 1-3, the original series), and House of Night (though book 4 or 5 was a snoozefest), and the All Souls Trilogy. I have yet to find fault with that series (other than the time for book 3 I have had to wait).

I second the Dark Hunters, although I found the Dream Hunters or whatever they were a bit tedious.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll drop a recommendation for Delilah Dawson's Blud series. Steampunk vampires...and vampire bunnies. Also, her heroines are so real. Seriously, Tish is a nurse, and I have the softest spot for that because I worked in a nursing home and my mom's a nurse. It was awesome to have a paranormal romance heroine who did something so normal, and yet was also a badass. I couldn't stop reading Wicked as She Wants, btw, and while I haven't gotten to Wicked After Midnight (yet), it's definitely on my list.

HUGE Recommendations:

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness: A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness , Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness , and the final book, The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness comes out July 15, 2014. An amazing story about a witch who denies her history until she accidently finds a book that magically disappears. Once that happens an old vampire starts to stalk her and she is threatened by other witches and vampires and demons. They all want her... or do they want the book? This series got me back into reading hardcore! This is Deborah Harkness' first books and she is so amazing!

Also the Marked Series by Sylvia Day: Eve of Darkness (Marked, #1) by S.J. Day , Eve of Destruction (Marked, #2) by S.J. Day Eve of Chaos (Marked, #3) by S.J. Day ... They are fabulous!!! They are about a woman named Eve who is scorned by a man in HS and hates men now because of it. She is attacked by a man who looks just like the man who burned her in HS and is "marked". She then finds herself trapped in between worlds where she is now fighting to get her soul into heaven because of past indiscretions. She also falls into a love triangle with Cain & Abel (yes.. THE Cain and THE Abel from the Bible). VERY GOOD!!!! This series also have two novellas: Eve of Warfare (Marked, #3.25) by Sylvia Day and Eve of Sin City (Marked, #3.5) by S.J. Day .

I try to recommend based on what the perspective reader likes. I wouldn't try to recommend young adult YA as I don't usually enjoy them. So UF, PNR with sub-genre of steampunk, comedic, and erotic.

Urban Fantasy UF tends to be best for my son or husband. Both read through-
Hounded (Iron Druid) by Kevin Hearne
Moon Called&
Alpha & Omega (Mercy Thompson and A&O) by Patricia Briggs
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels) by Ilona Andrews

Those are my absolute favorite UF

--More favorite UF-
My Life as a White Trash Zombie (White Trash Zombie) by Diana Rowland
Mind Games (the Disillusionist)
Magic Lost, Trouble Found (Raine Benares) by Lisa Shearin
Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress) by Jeaniene Frost
This is halfway between UF and PNR... maybe should go in PNR, hmm...

Steam Punk (something rather new to me)
God Save the Queen (the Immortal Empire) by Kate Locke
Soulless (Parasol Protectorate) by Gail Carriger

So Paranormal Romance PNR or Fantasy Romance FR, more of less in the order that I liked them and would recommend them--
Slave to Sensation (Psy-changelings) by Nalini Singh
A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark) by Kresley Cole
These 2 at the top of my list.

The Mane Event (Pride) by Shelly Laurenston
Dragon Bound(Elder Races) by Thea Harrison
Pleasure Unbound(Demonica/Lords of Deliverance) by Larissa Ione
First Drop of Crimson(two books Nighthuntress World) by Jeaniene Frost
Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin) by G.A. Aiken
Forbidden (World of the Nightwalkers) by Jacquelyn Frank
(you kind of need to read the Nightwalkers first Jacob which are pretty good too but I like the new series even more)
On the Edge(the Edge) by Ilona Andrews
Kiss of Midnight(Midnight Breeds) by Lara Adrian
Pride Mates(Shifters Unbound) by Jennifer Ashley
Dark Protector(Paladins of Darkness by Alexis Morgan
A Quick Bite(Argeneau Vampires) by Lynsay Sands

If you like COMEDIC UF/PNR then from above--
Iron Druid, Immortals After Dark, Dragon Kin, Pride, White Trash Zombie, Argeneau Vampires, and Parasol Protectorate--
I found to be quite funny or very fun.

Shelly Laurenston's Pride is also on the EROTIC side. That and New Species by Laurann Dohner Fury would be erotic recommends.
