I definitely recommend Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, but only if you enjoy historical fiction too as the setting is as important as characters in her work. The fact he's a vampire is not the main focus.
Yes, I got the new Vampire Empire story. I enjoy those a lot. The writing style is a bit OTT at times, but the story line and characters are great.
OTT= over the top, right? hmm, I don't remember that but maybe when I get to The Geomancer, It'll jog some memory. Still I do remember some parts dragging, especially in the first 1/2 of the first book. Then in the war scenes in the beginning of one of the books. I really like the main characters, so I ended up coming back and finishing the trilogy and was really glad as the 2nd and 3rd were better than the first for me.

I personally find their prose a little histrionic at times. But I work as an editor, and these days I find it hard to read without my 'red-pen' eye sneaking in. lol
Yes, I think he is. When I read it, the first book didn't make me run out to read the next two right away. Over a year later, I kept thinking about the two main characters, mainly Gareth, and wondering where they were going. So the characters pulled me back and I was really glad as I really enjoyed it. I ended up think it one of the best trilogies that I've read. I feel like many trilogies don't get better but the opposite, the 2nd is a filler and then the 3rd doesn't live up to the storyline. I think Vampire Empire avoided that completely.

Cal Leandros by Rob Thurman
Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
Kitty Norville by Carrie Vaughn
Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
Iron Druid by Kevin Hearne
Greywalker by Kat Richardson
Some on the more hot and heavy side:
Shifters Unbound by Jennifer Ashley
Alpha Pack by J.D. Tyler

The Morganville series -Rachel Caine
I could..."

A Subtle Agency by Graeme Rodaughan - vampires/vampire hunters - kick butt action all the way through the series. This is the first book in a series of what is suppose to be a nine book series. Fifth book just released back in December of 2019. The sixth book is coming out this year. Love this series - I do re-reads of the series every time a new book is released.
The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 by Jim Butcher - 17 book series - the main character is Harry and he is a wizard detective - this is a pretty cool series - five stars all across the board. I read the first six books and I need to finish the rest of the series as I really enjoyed the first six books.
I haven't started A Subtle Agency but have it on my TBR and got the first for free. All the series is KU right now.

Wasn't overly excited about All Soul's though I thought it was good. The second was my favorite whereas most thought it the slowest of the trilogy. Norma though mentioned it above as one of her favorites. I remember she had the book cover as her avatar for a while.
I really liked The Vampire Empire by the Griffith's. Did you know they just published a 4th to extend the trilogy,
I'm very excited by that. I don't know why I didn't include it as a runner up. :-) Too many series, so little time.
Sookie is good but I have only got to the second one so not very easy to judge if it'll keep going for me.
