I totally agree. Collins also built up Finnick's character very well and all of a sudden she killed him off. Unnecessary. His death was also not memorable. If he was going to die, Katniss should have been there with him in that particular scene. Like when Rue died. But did he really have to die? It seems like she was in a hurry to wrap it up. No, I did not cry but I felt robbed.

Can't agree more with you two.
When Fennik died I was thinking it was real tragic, because like most people I liked him and felt it was unneccessary for him to die the way he did.
With Prim it just thought "Oh!" but I had this feeling it didn't add up somehow. Like the book was hurried and scenes were just written for it to end sooner then later.
It wasn't at all like the death scenes in the Hunger Games. Were you actually had the feeling of 'being there'

message 504: by [deleted user] (new)

No i didn't cry when she died but I wasn't enjoying the book very much at that moment really. But in the first book I did cry when Rue died :( Not in the film though...that wasn't sad but in the book...yes :( x

message 505: by [deleted user] (new)

nope not really but i was sad

Elizabeth A. Dennler I didn't cry, but I reread the part three times to make sure I was reading it write as horrible as the part is the pair-shot booms was brilliant.

message 507: by Mia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mia Balfourth I cried not when she died, but when they planted flowers for Prim. It really touched me

message 508: by Tessa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tessa Yes I did cry when she died, but it was confusing though. I know a lot of people dind't like the book, but I did. If book three wasn't there than the whole serie wasn't complete and I wouldn't have wanted the book to be any different

message 509: by Son (new) - rated it 5 stars

Son Too much shock to cry. So awful. Had to retread the paragraph to take it all in.

۪H۫۰۪a۫۰۪l۫۰۪e۫۰۪y۫۰ I cried. She didn't deserve too. SHe was finally coming to use with the healing doctor stuff!

Atlantic Gem I didn't because someone spoiled it for me... -.-

Savannah I didn't cry--I did when Finnick did though. I'm not glad they died... but at the same time I kind of am. Collins doesn't sugar coat it at all. It's revolution, its battle, people die--good and bad. I think it makes the story all the more real... If everyone was left standing at the end, that would have been more of a let down for me

Savannah Also, on this thread (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...) I was reading alternate endings a few years ago, and this is my favorite. I think it would have been an awesome way to end it... very dramatic.

[Katniss puts her arrow through Coin, gets captured and put on (show-)trial, but she escapes to meet up with Peeta in the forest outside district 12.]
With "the games" finally over
and the Capitol defeated,
Katniss and Peeta,
who never had a chance
to be together by choice,
are finally free
and together,
holding hands
and hanging,
from the hanging tree.
[Fade to black with the nearby mockingjays echoing The Mockingjay's final song].

Yes, but it was out of anger. I was so upset that she had to die. Such and innocent girl and it all happened so suddenly. It was very sudden and dry though, and I was hoping for more emotion like Rue's death.

Magdala I did, it was so sad:( n i wonder how there going 2 do the whole chasing and alot of peole dying scene in the Mocking Jay movie whn it comes out

Melissa I got a little teary eyed I was really sad and angry, but I loved what katniss did with the flowers!

Samantha D I did not cry and I usually do when book characters die. To be honest it was for 2 reasons: 1.) we didn't know Prim that well so I didn't feel close to her even though Katniss did. 2.) It seemed like such an unnecessary death that happened after everything was winding down...

message 518: by low (new) - rated it 5 stars

low I'M SO MAD!!! Here's why: while I was waiting to read Catching Fire, I read somewhere that Prim was to die. So as I read Mockingjay, throughout the entire book, I was thinking, "OMG, is she going to *die* now?!?"
But no, I didn't cry when she died, partly because I was expecting it, and partly because I don't cry when I read books. Ah well.

message 519: by Betty (new) - rated it 2 stars

Betty Cross I was surprised when Finnick died but Prim's death was much more a tragedy for Katniss than it was for me. Prim is so little seen in the 3 books, I didn't get much of a clue about her except young, cute, and vulnerable.

message 520: by Kayci (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kayci Morgan Actually I mumbled something like, "Well that love triangle just got resolved." Nothing like being indirectly responsible for a sibling's death to take you out of the running for future husband.

message 521: by Lillyg (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lillyg I completely bawled my eyes out at the end of the third book.

message 522: by Joanna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joanna I didn't cry when she died, I was just really shocked by it and re-read it a few times to be sure- a tear did roll down my cheek at the scene where poor Buttercup the cat arrives back at D12, battered, skinny and looking for his beloved master- and he and Katniss sort of bond/break down together over it.

message 523: by low (new) - rated it 5 stars

low Lol. "We'll that love triangle just got resolved." Can't stop laughing. I never thought of it like that

Same thing. I almost never cry over books and I didn't cry over mockingjay but it made me really depressed for a couple of days.

Maybe it was just cause the series was over. :)

message 525: by low (new) - rated it 5 stars

low I get super sad when a series I like is finished. When I finished the harry potter series, it was after the books were written and they were just finishing up HP and the DH part one. Anyway when I finished it I was like, "wh-what am I supposed to read now???"

I know how you feel about HP! Everyone felt it ended when the last movie came out but for me it finished on the day (after) the seventh book was released. Heartbreaking day

message 528: by Sami (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sami :D "Always"

message 529: by Leesa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leesa Newbon I didn't cry when Prim died but when Katniss told Buttercup I cried buckets

message 530: by Sally (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sally Who didn't cry when prim died.. I balled my eyes out through most of this book... I love the series...

The_Halfblood_Muslim ya AND IT WAS ALLLLL GALES FAULT!!!!!!

message 532: by Lisa (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lisa At first I didn't believe it (thought maybe Katniss had lost her mind or something) since it felt like it came out of freakin' no where.
And once I realized it was real I was pissed at how stupid it was. blah no tears from me. Just anger.

the fire burns inside me I cried for about 15 minutes, then there was Finnick and I creid about 15 minutes as well. I had to gather myself by the end of this book.

message 534: by Keshia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Keshia Noseworthy I balled like a freaking baby. When Rue died, I cried buckets and thwn Prim died and I cried more.... I never cry reading books....

Joyce (The book worm) I was so sad I cryed for a week

message 536: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't... I know Prim is the main reason why Katniss got involved with all this Hunger Games things but it seems like being told too short and fast.

message 537: by Sofie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sofie yeah, i cried very much. and every time i read it i cry.....:(

Loretta Lawrence IT WAS TOTALLY DEPRESSING! Suzanne Collins has killed a lot of my favorite characters (Finnick, Mags, Cena, etc.) Couldn't she have spared PRIM??? At least Prim. She was the whole point of the book. I cried until the end of the book.

message 539: by lily (new) - rated it 4 stars

lily I didn't cry but I felt really hurt and that was so saaaad for Katniss. I didn't cry because in a certain way I was in the same mood as Katniss. I wanted every bad persons to die no matter what. I don't know if you get what I mean. I wanted revenge.

message 540: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna I didn't cry, because my friend had spoiled it to me, but I DID cry at the end of the book, when I realized all the losts and the people that had died...

message 541: by Sidney (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sidney I didn't cry when Prim died, I cried when Katniss told the cat. Poor Buttercup :)

message 542: by Margo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Margo Almost - yes! After everything that the family had been through, I thought that was maybe not necessary . . . I also thought Katniss' daughter at the end should've been named, Prim.

message 543: by Vizma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Vizma something hardened in my heart when prim died "as a cloumn of fire consumed the children" i SO cried.

message 544: by [deleted user] (new)

"She's dead, you stupid cat! SHE'S DEAD."

got me.

message 545: by Jonida (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jonida No I didn't - but I did when Rue died. When I watched the movie I was a water fountain of tears.

message 546: by Madie (last edited May 09, 2013 09:50AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Madie I didn't I was shocked and angry. What was she doing there in the first place.

Lindsey I didn't, but I think a the writing has to be pretty good the make me actually cry and mockinjay just wasn't written well.

But ""She's dead, you stupid cat! SHE'S DEAD." did make my heart ache a bit.

the fire burns inside me Zeynep wrote: ""She's dead, you stupid cat! SHE'S DEAD."

got me."

I didn't even know she was dead until then..

message 549: by [deleted user] (new)

This isn't very good. I don't think you should make made the title a spoiler.

message 550: by Paige (new) - rated it 3 stars

Paige I actually didn't cry when Prim died, but might be because I accidentally read a post that Prim does die. So that probably killed the moment for me. The part I got really upset over was when Finnick died. Finnick's death seemed much more emotional than Prim's.
