Lauren (lgcoleman) I looked around for another topic like this one but didn't see one. I apologize if something like this has already been started.

I have noticed many of you read multiple books at a time or seem to read books quickly. So, what I'm wondering is...when do you do most of your reading?

I'm a one book at a time kind of person. I usually read in bed before I fall asleep unless it's so good that it's all I can think about. Then, I will read anytime even if I'm at work. But mostly it is at home after I get off work. I personally don't feel like I have enough time for reading.

message 2: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments In high school I read two or three books at a time, I read when I finished my work in school, waiting for class to start, homeroom, bus stop. Now I pretty much only read during college breaks, summer.

message 3: by Julie (new)

Julie Normally I would just read during my lunch hour from work or when I got home of an evening for a little while, I can get through YA books fairly quickly..maybe that's why I like them so much. Since I'm not working right now though I usually read during the day (sometimes when I should be doing other things like cleaning haha) so I'm able to read alot more books. I try to only read one at a time but sometimes I will get one for Kindle that I get really excited about and will do two at once.

message 4: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I read on my breaks and lunches at work. I read at night (when I can), I read any time I steal a moment away in the bathroom (TMI? It's the most private place in my house.)

When my husband is home it's harder to read because he feels like I'm ignoring him.

message 5: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 264 comments I read anywhere really. In my car while waiting to pick up my kids, in the waiting room at the dentist/doctor. Sometimes I read in the morning while my kids are watching cartoons (on the weekends). I agree with Wendy it is harder to read when my hubby is home because he wants my attention. He's like another child! lol. But sometimes if the book is really good i just tell him i have to read....lol

Lauren (lgcoleman) Wendy F wrote: "When my husband is home it's harder to read because he feels like I'm ignoring him."

I'm sure my boyfriend feels the same way. Luckily, he likes to play online video games so I usually take that time to read.

message 7: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 264 comments LOL. My husband usually falls asleep the minute he sits on the couch. hahahha. so sometimes i pull out my book then...

message 8: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I wish my husband was into anything other then wanting to watch TV all the time. I'm not complaining, he watches General Hospital with me (and loves it), haha. It's just that sometimes I want him to get a hobby so he stops interfereing with mine!

Cambria - I did that yesterday. I told him that we caught up on all our shows so I was choosing to read for the evening. He handled it well.

message 9: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I read a lot at work - yes they let me as long as I don't drop calls :) I also read pretty much any other time I can get. My bf likes that he can play xbox and I can curl up with a book and we are completly content with our evening.

message 10: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 264 comments Awwww. They are growing up aren't they? hahahah. kidding. Sometimes my hubby is good about it too and others he's like.."don't you want give me any attention?" Sometimes i want to say no I'd rather read but that wouldn't be very nice....lol.

message 11: by Julie (new)

Julie I try not to read too much of an evening unless my husband is watching a tv show that I don't really care about. I feel guilty sometimes if I spend all my evening hours reading and not paying any attention to him. :)

message 12: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Jaimie wrote: "I read a lot at work - yes they let me as long as I don't drop calls :) I also read pretty much any other time I can get. My bf likes that he can play xbox and I can curl up with a book and we are ..."

Where do you work that you get to read? I want that job.

message 13: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I work in the reservations department of a ski resort but I work with the homeowners on our rental program so I only get calls when they want to come up and use their unit. I am pretty busy in the winter but the rest of the year I have a lot of down time. I do back up the other lines on occasion but I have been doing it for a long time so my calls are really quick.

message 14: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments Hahaha that awsome that they let you read like that. When I worked at the Rec. center I could if I wasn't busy in the back, and if i was in front the people couldn't see the book so I left it on my lap under the desk. It was very hard to contain my reactions while reading the Luxe series doing that...

message 15: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments well they can't really tell me not to considering the whole office spends their day watching tv on the internet and reading the newspaper. When I was hired they told me the most important part of my job was customer service and since I get steller reviews from the owners they can't really say that I am not doing my job and well. They have added duties throughout the years but I am highly efficent so I still get to read for 70-80% of my work day.

message 16: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I used to work in a Alzheimer's facility (assisted living) and on the afternoon shift, which ended at midnight, I got to read after then were in bed. They were all in bed by 8, so I had a good 4 hours to read or watch tv, having to just check on them once an hour.

Now I work in an office and there's NO way I'd get to read.

message 17: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments the downside is that my job is really really boring. I don't always read because honestly books start meshing together - I was averaging like 5-6 books a week for a long while but now it is more like 2. But some weeks I go through whole tv series and am always looking for things to fill my time. Our computers block pretty much all game sites.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I usually read YA or light books during the day when the younger child is running around. Most of my steamier reads are done late at night while everyone else is in bed and I get to lie around on the couch in quiet.

message 19: by Arphaxad (last edited May 03, 2011 12:19PM) (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments My work timetable at uni is pretty insane - virtually nonstop every day, from first thing in the morning til late at night, especially in exam term (joy!). So I read through my lunch break and then through my dinner break in the evening, which helps me preserve some measure of sanity! I use mealtimes as mini brain-holidays :)

message 20: by Heidi (new)

Heidi My hubby takes up a lot of my time too so I normally read when he is at work and also nightly before I go to sleep. It is funny because he knows now that I check my Goodreads every night before I go to bed so we'll hang out at night and then about 9 or 10:00 he will say "Are you off to check your Goodreads?" and off I go :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My husband does the same thing to me as he's going to bed. He knows as soon as he leaves the room, I am heading into the office.

WTF Are You Reading? | 64 comments I read all the time. I am a homeschooling mom, so most of my reading is done via audiobook so that I can answer questions, clean or whatever else may need doing without having to give up my reading time. I can only make time to read a hand held book at night. I am not complaining though. I think that my reading bug is spreading to my 13-year old daughter who asked for a NOOK Color of all things for her birthday.

message 23: by Shirin (new)

Shirin (stolen-heart) That's easy . . . Summer time is when I read most!

message 24: by Paula (new)

Paula Williams (daystealer) | 43 comments I'm fortunate right now. I'm not working and have no more kids at home so most days I read two to three hours in the morning, then write in the afternoon. I always keep ebooks handy on my phone when I'm out during "waiting" times. When I'm with my husband, I put the books away (unless he falls asleep). Then at night, if I can put away writing, I read a little before bed. Sometimes I have audio books if I'm traveling a lot--makes time go by. So usually, I have an ebook, print book, and audio book going at the same time--Would you call that book crazed?

message 25: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lgcoleman) Paula, it sounds like you have a book ready for any occasion!

My boyfriend is out camping all weekend so I can read alllll I want.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I read in the evenings after work. And on weekends of course.

I have multiple books going but normally its an audiobook (Mississippi Jack at the moment) and either a library book or e-book. Currently it shows me as 4 books--one is a writing workbook I really ought to pick back up and another is an encyclopedia of faeries.

Reading multiple books is easier with different formats.

message 27: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I read one book at at time and listen to 3 audiobooks at the same time (car, house, mp3 player).

message 28: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments I read where ever and when ever right now. :) I've read up to 4 books at one time. My mom doesn't know how I can keep the stories straight. lol

message 29: by umad80 (new)

umad80 | 3 comments Usually at night before bed. If I'm not doing anything while home I'll read then, especially if I'm in an exciting part of a book.

message 30: by Everardo (new)

Everardo (everard0) at night, at work... everywere

message 31: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) All day and all night, No job so I can read whenever I want pretty much! I like reading in the bath at night a lot though :)

message 32: by Shelia (new)

Shelia (strawberrypanic-ouran-furuba) I usually read at night, because that's when I have the most time.

message 33: by Stephanie (last edited May 11, 2011 09:23AM) (new)

Stephanie (misprintedpages) I can't imagine reading multiple books at once. I like to keep one story (and all its themes, characters, etc.) straight in my head at a time and power through the book as fast as possible. I find that the more dedicated you are to reading one book and finishing it in a timely manner, the more likely you are to appreciate and understand how it comes together on a literary level. You're more likely to pick up on little details and connections. Too much time apart and you forget.

Usually I read at night, anytime within the five hours or so before bed. During the day, I'm too influenced by the need to be productive!

When my boyfriend and I are apart and missing each other, reading is one of the best ways to keep my mind occupied and off that feeling of longing. When you're living together with someone, it's good to spend at least an hour or two a day doing something together, even if it's just sitting with each other or talking.

Frishawn wrote: "I read all the time. I am a homeschooling mom, so most of my reading is done via audiobook so that I can answer questions, clean or whatever else may need doing without having to give up my readin..."

Reading is one of the most important things you can encourage your kids to do. I love reading, but I grew up in a household where most of my family members liked watching TV or movies more than reading. It has an effect. Definitely foster a love of reading in your kids in whatever way possible, even if it means buying your daughter a Nook. :) It will only help her later on.

message 34: by Kate (new)

Kate Bowyer (kate_bowyer) | 7 comments I really only have the chance to read at night before bed. Then it depends on how tired I am on how much/how long I read.

I like to read two books at once, but only when they are different genres. That way I keep the story lines and characters straight in my head but I also can pick which one I want to read depending on my mood.

message 35: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I read on the train to and from work, at work during my lunch break, and usually about an hour before bed. Depending on the book I might read more during the week, and normally there is a few hours here and there during the weekend.

I like taking the time during my lunch break, because I feel like it refreshes me for the second part of my work day. The only part that is bad, is when you get to a really interesting/exciting part right at the end of lunch (that's a problem on the train to work too).

Sandra (I don't read, I devour.) (sisgood) | 33 comments If I am working that day, I read on lunch breaks... and in the bathroom if I have to go number 2. *blush*

I read while I am waiting for a show I want to watch to come on... with the T.V. on for BG noise. I can't do ANYTHING without background noise; if it's totally quiet, I go a little nutty. lol

I read in the tub with my bathspa thingy on. Two things I am thankful for this year:
BathSpa
Waterproof Kindle case

I read if I am waiting around and get bored

I read if I am over at my best-friends house and her and her hubby are asleep/doing chores. (sometimes I help! lol)

I just realized... someone... at some point... is going to have to surgically remove my kindle from my person.

I call it the precious for a reason people!

message 37: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 11 comments I read from about 10PM in bed until I start nodding, usually between 12 and 1 AM

message 38: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 58 comments I'm a one book at a time person myself... I usually read after I get home from work, sometime in the evening depending my what shows I have recording on the DVR! LOL And I read on the weekends too. If the book is really good, and I just can't put it down, I am able to read a book in one sitting. I usually take a couple of days to read a book, but that also depends on how long/big the book is

message 39: by Felicia (new)

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 15 comments I read in the morning when I get up and then when I'm exercising. Of course during exercising it depends entirely on what I'm doing. Riding the bike is the best.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 44 comments I read during lunch and breaks at work. Then, if I turn off the computer before I am totally wiped out, I read until I fall asleep.

I'm off all next week, so hope to get some projects around the house done, and will read every chance I get!

message 41: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (bookishevents) I read when I'm supposed to go to bed for the most part, or when I'm alone and don't feel like being online which actually is a lot of the time. If the book is really good which I'm usually lucky about I finish the book in one sitting before moving on to another one. I spend a lot of time not being able to sleep so having something to read to at least entertain me really helps.

message 42: by Mare (last edited May 25, 2011 12:59AM) (new)

Mare (mare_1503) I mostly read on bus =). Drive from my home to my collage takes more than 30 minutes, and I have plenty time to read one book a week. But I finish it in my bed- I usually read last 100 pages together :P

message 43: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 43 comments I generally read one book at a time. I read usally at night after the supper dishes are done. I read in my comfy recliner, though, ZI have never enjoyed reading in bed!
Anyway, if I am too tired, I am perfectly capable of nodding off in my recliner!

message 44: by Primero (new)

Primero | 3 comments Mostly I read on a bus on my way to work and back home. (It takes about 1 hour or more depends on the traffic.) I read in bed if that book is un-put-down-able. I always carry a book with me when I go to bank or post office. It helps waiting in lines seem faster.

message 45: by Simon (new)

Simon Smithwilson | 4 comments I tend to read about halfway through the day, as I can tune out from work and just escape into a book.

message 46: by Kelly (new)

Kelly McClymer (kellymcclymer) | 18 comments I read at night, right before I go to sleep. That's not always a great idea, because sometimes I end up staying awake into the wee hours to finish a good book. I also keep a book in the car to read when I'm stuck in traffic, or waiting to pick my son up from work. I also have begun listening to audiobooks, and having the Kindle read to me in the car.

message 47: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 22 comments I read on subway and little on some nights and early am before work. Most is on weekends though

message 48: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) Most of the time I read before bed because that's when everyone else is already asleep. But I always have a book with me just in case.

message 49: by Felicia (new)

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 15 comments Took my kindle to the dentist yesterday. I got one line read before they called me back! Then I had to wait on the dentist and I was so engrossed in the story I kind of wished he'd waited a little longer! Here is what I'm reading... Shapeling Trilogy Book One Roth Protector by Verna Clay

message 50: by Misty (new)

Misty (authormistyevans) | 4 comments I read at night before bed and every weekend. I often read more than one book at a time, but usually they're in different genres. I love weekends when I can read a book from start to finish.
