My favorite characters are Thomas (with his tragic love life) and Murphy (who stands by Dresden no matter what). My favorite villian(s)? Practically the entire White Council! LOL

By far my favorite supporting character is Waldo Butters. Essentially Butters is a norm. He doesn't have the special training that other norms have, and he has no supernatural abilities to turn to when darkness throws down, but Butters will be there when he needs to be, and he will pull together the courage to do what is right. Sometimes I feel as though Butters is the man that Harry would be if he had been born without his magical talents.
Charity because I totally get her (except for the sewing I can sew worth a damn).Butters and Mouse. I just finished Ghost Story and Mort is a still waters runs deep hero
Villain hmmmm! Bianca perhaps, Marcone... Lara
What about Ms. Gard? I really dig her. I think she is one of those characters he writes so well. How does he do that, with the characters that don't really "get" humanity? I like Toot Toot as well. He's a great little bit of humor for the books. I am also madly in love with Thomas. I'd be his thrall, if he asked me to, even while he's playing gay French hair stylist ;)
Have you all read the suplimental stories that go along with the series? I really enjoyed the one from Thomas's point of view, Backup, I think it was. Butcher is realy good at flushing out his characters, and I thought the story from someone else's POV was a great way to do even more with it. The series started out a little blase for me, but I have grown very attached to the characters through my journey with them. I'm excited to get to the end of Ghost Story, but sad because my time with them will be over until the next novel comes out next year :(
Did you mean
? if so yeah and at the right points in between the novels, loved them. Or did you mean other stories, if so where can I get them, links, woman, links. ;-P
There is one called Curses that I googled and found on the web. It didn't come in the friendliest of formats. It also appears in the short story anthology The Naked City. There is another called Even Hand, which is from Marcone's POV. I haven't read that one yet. It appears in the anthology Dark and Stormy Knights. You might be able to find it on line, though...Yes, Backup appears in Side Jobs. I am reading them all in order, and I think it really adds to the experience of the story at large :)
I've chased up copies of
and I already had though haven't gotten to
, as Frank Zappa said "So many books, so little time". I agree about the reading in order and thanks for the information. I'm trying to chase up one called AAAA Wizardry but that seem to have been written for a RPG site.
Side Jobs is an interesting look into Harry's world. I would be interested in reading a story from Macrone's POV tho.
I found a copy of it here... http://www.epubbud.com/read.php?g=7Q9...I'm not sure if it is complete, or not, as I have not read it.
Personally I like Mouse. That dog knows far more than he lets on. :)As for villains, I am fond of both Lea and Mab.
Just had to find the right place to squee about it... I just listend to this one on my MP3 player. James Marsters does such a good job with Jim's words.
Out of all the secondary characters I gotta go with Michael. he's so hard core but nice about it at the same time. I cant wait until book 14!
There are so many awesome secondary characters its hard to choose. I have to say when I first started reading I expected Mister to end up being some sort of shape-shifter there to either help or spy on Dresden. Cant relay choose a favorite. For the villains Nicodemus is as evil as it gets.
Mouse is absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite!! Other than him, I have high hopes for Molly.... I can not wait for Cold Days.
Oh Yeah and Butters, how could I forget Butters...Polka Never Dies!!

Also adore Thomas. Does he count as a main or secondary character?"
I love Lara too :-)

Mouse rules. From the first time we meet him and he is willing to go back and fight those monkey demons. I love all the various ways Harry has of descriing him. I especially loved it when we get to hear Mouse speak in Changes. And let's not forget Mister, he was after all, Harry's first roommate.

I just finished this book. I've been reading them all in order and Bob is my absolute favorite secondary character. He makes me laugh every time he appears, the pervert. He is the only character who treats Harry like he would anyone else. Everyone else treats Harry as though they are somewhat scared of him. At least nervous around him, but Bob treats him like he's a normal human being. Very sarcastic and wise ass. Lots of people care about Harry, but I really believe Bob loves him most. Love Bob.
My favourite would have to be Molly, she has developed from a spoily brat to more than competent wizard who does not fear ti use her power to the max.
All of the characters are great, but my absolute favorites are Thomas and the Leanansidhe. (I just love saying her name!)
I like Toot Toot as a minor character. And Mister and Mouse too.Favorite secondary villain...hmmm...I don't really have one.
Ivy breaks my heart, but Thomas is the one my heart truly goes out to. His struggle w/ his vampire side and his love for the humans in his life.
My favorite of all was Lash. I was so disappointed, thought the partnership could have been something special - interesting to see the shade change, become independent. I would like to have seen the back and forth between them - the knowledge, the help, the development of the relationship. Next character I like is Lacuna; she totally kicks butt and takes no nonsense. Would give third to Mab.
Staying away from the obvious secondary characters like Michael, Molly, Thomas, Marcone, Murphy and the rest I like a few Morty Lindquist, McNally, Fix & Uriel. As for fave villains Cowl is obvious, Corpsetaker is another fun bad guy. Nicodemus and the Nickelheads are scary as well. Lash started as a baddie but in the end is good. I just love the series. Butcher has taken minimal characters that books down the line they become huge.
He writes female characters so well. Lash was excellent and I wish she could come back. He has some excellent females both good and bad in the Codex Alera too.
I'm kinda partial to Listens to Wind, especially in the battle against Shagnasty out on the island. Demonreach is cool, too (and yes, the island is a character! Especially that island.)
My fav has to be Shiro, such a good man! Thomas comes really close though I really like how Jim Butcher paints him out to be such a diva :-)
I think Mab is a good example of a character that I shuddered over when reading in the beginning. Of course Harry's fear of her helped that along... But as of the last book or two, Jim's carefully peeled back the layers and taken the cardboard placeholder of "bad guy" and shown us that what we thought was truly evil might really just be ruthless guardianship - from her perspective. We see underlying motivations and try/fail sequences (that usually are reserved for the hero of the story) that snick into place in hindsight that we didn't catch while it was happening. It's fascinating to me how he develops minor characters over time. They really grow and change, and those changes have an impact on the course of the main plot lines... they cease to be placeholders any longer and it becomes an ensemble cast.
His writing ability has me snagged, and I'm eagerly waiting for the next book!
I believe I answered this before and my favs are still Murphy, Mab and Mouse. Thomas is close, so are Bob and Micheal Carpenter. As well as Sanya b/c he spoke my favorite quote.
I love Kincaid and his "teddy-glock", and Ivy of course. I have so much time for those two.Favourite villain is probably Marcone - I love that he's just a human being but he still holds enough power to be a threat. Also he's damn badass.
Nicodemus is pretty terrifying, so I like him too.
I don't think there's actually a character in the books that I dislike...
