message 25152: by Clara (new)

Clara | 157 comments I am reading A Bride Most Begrudging. I really like it.

message 25153: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1956 comments Love Kills is really good and so is The Second Messiah so far. I keep switching between the two, feeling guilty over the one I'm not reading!

message 25154: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline Quackenbush I just finished Don Quixote which was actually rather enjoyable although the last 150 pages or so really dragged for me. Not sure what I'm going to read next but I definitely feel a non-fiction kick coming on.

message 25155: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicasey) I've started Called Home: Two Hearts Answer, and I'm still listening to Moloka'i. Audio books take me forever to complete, but I love having them for the car.

message 25158: by Jane (new)

Jane | 27 comments I FINALLY finished The Magus by John Fowles . I was not really a fan... I guess it was ok.
Next up, some YA: The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness
I also just got The Diviner's Tale by Bradford Morrow from the library, so I'll probably start that soon, too.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 89 comments Finished: The First Days (As The World Dies A Zombie Trilogy, #1) by Rhiannon Frater and here's my review: http://wp.me/p1CKWU-5v.

Now reading: Shadows on the Sand A Seaside Mystery by Gayle G. Roper and Sex, Lies and Soybeans by Rick Goeld .

message 25160: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 1056 comments Trying to get through Napoleon's Pyramids (Ethan Gage, #1) by William Dietrich but it's slow going so far...hope it picks up soon.

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I've posted here... nice to see what everyone's reading :)

I am currently reading alt.punk by Lavinia Ludlow and I'm loving it. It's sharp and sarcastic and the female protag is an absolute trip!

She weighs under 115 pds yet everyone around her calls her fat so she refuses to eat near people, though she will binge on soda, candy, and other unhealthy things at home. She is a severe germaphobe who is disgusted by sex and stray pubic hair....

I wish I never had to put this book down!

message 25162: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 73 comments Lori, that book sounds great. Another addition to my TBR list, but it looks like my public library doesn't have it :(

message 25163: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
It's published by a very small indie press so I think it might be hard to find via libraries.

message 25164: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I hear a lot of mixed reviews of audio books, but I'm a big fan of them. And here's just one reason why-- I'm packing to move, and I've listened to two complete books so far while doing it: Act of Treason Act of Treason (Mitch Rapp #7) by Vince Flynn and The New Year's Quilt The New Year's Quilt (Elm Creek Quilts, #11) by Jennifer Chiaverini . Somehow, knocking out two books so far is making the fact that the move is two weeks away, and I've packed up about 80% of my belongings--which means I could live without 80% of the crap I own!--easier to swallow.

message 25165: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 185 comments I finished The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Next up is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.

message 25166: by Rayna (new)

message 25167: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
I looked up IndieBound and BetterWorldBooks but both are selling at full price... It's still new and also very indie so I am not sure that you will find very many used copies floating around yet.

I'm currently reading Caleb's Crossing, which I enjoy (but not love, at least not yet).

The Birth of Venus was on my TBR list for a long time, but I just realized I have over 90 books on my Kindle. Need to read at least some of those first, before getting any new ones.

message 25182: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I just finished Murder Most Royal Murder Most Royal (Tudor Saga, #5) by Jean Plaidy and not a moment too soon. I'd set myself to finish reading all of my unread Jean Plaidy this year but I am SO SICK of the Tudors I could hardly get through this one. I just wanted them to line up Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard and lop their heads off on page 2 and be done with it.

message 25183: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I finished Tiger's Curse and didn't really care for it. I'm now almost half way thru Darke and liking it much more.

Antoine Devine (antoinemauricedevine) | 39 comments I'm reading Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis. Seems appropriate with the state of sports and business.

message 25186: by Glenda (new)

Glenda (glenda-r) I just finished A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan Very interesting and definitely not for everyone. I gave it 3 stars. I enjoyed reading it, I'm glad I read it, but I wouldn't read it again.

Just started on The Year She Fell by Alicia Rasley by Alicia Rasley. Has anyone read this one and if so, what did you think of it?

message 25187: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (elbeaton) | 4 comments I just finished the Wind-Up Bird Chronicles for the group read! It was really good. To be honest, I didn't understand a lot of it, but I don't think you're entirely meant to. Very whimsical, strange read that really pulls on your emotions in strange ways - fear, disgust, etc.

Now I am reading The Lotus Eaters by Tatjana Soli. I'm only a few pages in but it seems really interesting so far, about three photographers in the Vietnam War in Saigon. I won it on Goodreads. It's the first book in a long while that I haven't read on my Sony eReader - it's a nice change (:

message 25188: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Currently reading: Dean and Me: Dean and Me (A Love Story) by Jerry Lewis , The Voysey Inheritance (Methuen Drama) (Modern Plays) by Harley Granville-Barker The Voysey Inheritance (Methuen Drama), The Youngest: A Play, Divine Inspiration Divine Inspiration by Jane Langton and A Fall from Grace A Novel of Suspense by Robert Barnard A Fall from Grace: A Novel of Suspense. I'll probably also start either the next Chiaverini in my list, or the next Cleo Coyle. Or both!

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) Rayna wrote: "Lori - any idea where I can get a (cheap) copy?"

Most Public Libraries have "Interlibrary Loan" They can get a book from another library in your state for a small fee of $5.00 or less. You might be able to get the book that way, if you don't want to own the book. If you want to own the book try www.betterworldbooks.com they have many books really frugally priced.

message 25190: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) I started because I was at a friends home last night and had forgotten my current book, Friendship Bread. I think I will enjoy this story.

I've finished all of these since Sunday, which helps catch me up a *bit* towards my goal for the year.

i started Sister Mine from Tawni O'Dell today. i feel like i've read this already, but i could be wrong. i like her stuff, it takes place in areas that i know well, both geographically and emotionally.

I saw David Mamet's production of The Voysey Inheritance in 2004, which was fortunate. Unfortunately, I worked for a family-run company whose fortunes were eerily similar.

message 25197: by Allison (new)

I read this book a while ago, I liked the first half better than the second but that's because I could identify better with the first half. Enjoy!
