Also reading Baudolino by Umberto Eco and enjoying it. Reading Eco always makes me wish I knew more world history.
Started Freakonomics A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt and Angels of Destruction A Novel by Keith Donohue yesterday. Freakonomics is interesting in an unorthodox way. The Stolen Child was Donohue's first novel and I loved it. Angels of Destruction looks like it will be just as good.

I love freakonomics, it's freakonawesome! I can't wait to read super freakonomics and see what other crazy theories they come up with.

I think I might just be tempted to have a bit of a romance-thon soon though. I think I've reached my quota for unhappy endings for the moment!

Just started The Ten-Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer. Wonderful.

Maicie,
Listening to someone read that you can't see is hard for many people. I also forget I am listening and my mind wanders off. I find when I listen to lectures, I need to take notes, or make a trigger list (key words) or even doodle to help me stay in the present and listen. That is called active listening. Another method would be to picture what the person is saying - that helps you use more senses. Ask your mom to help you summarize what she has said or use different words- that also helps with you practice active listening.
The brain is a wonderful muscle, but it works differently for everyone, people are such different types of learners. You could be a better visual learner. (magic eye puzzles don't count) That is what I am - I have had to learn to use what is strong for me (my sight) to help me listen.
Good Luck Maicie!

How is it so far? I can't wait to read it!

So does this mean I might actually like Eat, Pray, Love? That is another book that I have no desire to read because people talk about how narcissistic and unlikeable the author is.
I'm about half way through The Jane Austen Book Club, which is not as terrible as I was expecting but still pales in comparison to the movie.
This morning I also started Last Night in Twisted River A Novel by John Irving. I'm so excited and can't wait for Irving to knock my socks off.

I really liked Julie & Julia, too! I wasn't expecting to get a whole lot out of that one, but was shocked at how much I actually enjoyed it.
I'm so jealous you have the new Irving! I definately want to check that one out.

And would love to read I captured the castle I have heard so much about it!

Lindsay, I am now at page 113 and still didn't get into the story. I think it is just not for me the writing style and it goes too slow without anything really been told.
I was sceptic about I capture the castle and the beginning was a bit slow but what came after grew and grew. I don't say you will for sure love it but there is a good chance you will like it.

I finished Man in the High Castle (it was just 'eh' for me) and will be moving on to Eating Animals, right after I cook up some steak for the fam :)
I thought someone would get a kick out of that :)
To be honest, I am not a big red-meat eater, but the men in my family outrank me 3 to 1....

hee hee.. gotta love it. I just realised that the last chunk of the book is just notes. Not part of the actual novel at all.

Glad to see you liked "Little Children" Eric. I thought it was an ok read but it was sure a dysfunctional bunch of characters! LOL I have "The Titan's Curse" coming from the library on audio soon. Cute series.

I'm in the middle of The Hunger Game's right now and I'm loving it! I'm glad I already have a hold for the second one.

I received a BOAT LOAD from my library today! I had holds placed on about 8 books and what-do-you-know, of course they ALL come in at once?! I hate it when that happens because now I feel rushed to get through them all instead of just enjoying them!
Going to glance over them all now and then decide which one to cleanse my mental palate with next....

..."
I like the cleansing of the mental palette.

I am starting a first-reads fantasy by Jennifer Armintrout, Queene of Light. I'm looking forward to something light and fun.

Oh, that's on my short list! I can't wait to hear what you think of it. And I hope you feel better soon!

Stephen King's The Eyes of the Dragon
Greg Mortensen's Three Cups of Tea
Both are terrific!

Now I'm trying to start The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. No, I haven't seen the movie. :-)

..."
I read this one twice. Once in high school and once last year just for the heck of it. I was hoping I would like it more than I did in hs, but its just alright still. I totally understood the symbolism this time around, but I don't get it why my brother and sister like it so much. Everyone's different

Glad to see you liked "Little Chil..."
is the movie with kate winslet based on the book LITTLE CHILDREN..JOE

I'm really looking forward to this one. :D
