How is it so far? I can't wait to read it!

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments Last night I finished reading Julia and Julia - and I really liked it! This is a book that I had absolutely no interest in reading. I ended up having to use it for the Group Read task in the Seasonal Challenge because I had already read the other two books. After dreading it and putting it off for so long, I finally decided to bite the bullet. What a pleasant surprise!

So does this mean I might actually like Eat, Pray, Love? That is another book that I have no desire to read because people talk about how narcissistic and unlikeable the author is.

I'm about half way through The Jane Austen Book Club, which is not as terrible as I was expecting but still pales in comparison to the movie.
This morning I also started Last Night in Twisted River A Novel by John Irving. I'm so excited and can't wait for Irving to knock my socks off.

message 15603: by JSou (new)

JSou Eating Animals is great so far. I read the first page to kind of get a feel for it, and didn't put it down until about page 60...even while making dinner.

I really liked Julie & Julia, too! I wasn't expecting to get a whole lot out of that one, but was shocked at how much I actually enjoyed it.

I'm so jealous you have the new Irving! I definately want to check that one out.

message 15604: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I am still dragging myself through The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and now that I finished I Capture the Castle(which was really good), I chose Saving Faith to help me get through the other book. First time I am reading a david Baldacci.

message 15605: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) I really liked the curious incident of the dog, though I have to admit it took a little while to sink into because of the language. But I love how it illustrates how words need emotion behind them for them to have meaning.

And would love to read I captured the castle I have heard so much about it!

Lindsay, I am now at page 113 and still didn't get into the story. I think it is just not for me the writing style and it goes too slow without anything really been told.

I was sceptic about I capture the castle and the beginning was a bit slow but what came after grew and grew. I don't say you will for sure love it but there is a good chance you will like it.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I'm reading Angels of Destruction A Novel by Keith Donohue and I'm loving it so far. I love it even more than The Stolen Child and I loved that one, too.

hee hee.. gotta love it. I just realised that the last chunk of the book is just notes. Not part of the actual novel at all.

Glad to see you liked "Little Children" Eric. I thought it was an ok read but it was sure a dysfunctional bunch of characters! LOL I have "The Titan's Curse" coming from the library on audio soon. Cute series.

Lori Ann | 105 comments Lindsay thanks for the Angel's game answer!

I'm in the middle of The Hunger Game's right now and I'm loving it! I'm glad I already have a hold for the second one.

message 15617: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ I just finished Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It was just "meh" for me. Maybe I missed out on all the symbolism that it was suppose to represent? IDK. Oh well...

I received a BOAT LOAD from my library today! I had holds placed on about 8 books and what-do-you-know, of course they ALL come in at once?! I hate it when that happens because now I feel rushed to get through them all instead of just enjoying them!

Going to glance over them all now and then decide which one to cleanse my mental palate with next....

Fenixbird SandS | 403 comments Two really..but in between the arduous tasks. Aaargh...Someone hand me a book..P L E A S E! ! !

Stephen King's The Eyes of the Dragon
Greg Mortensen's Three Cups of Tea

Both are terrific!

JG (Introverted Reader) I finished Prayers for Sale. It was a sweet story, but the writing wasn't great for me, so it only got three stars.

Now I'm trying to start The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. No, I haven't seen the movie. :-)

I read this one twice. Once in high school and once last year just for the heck of it. I was hoping I would like it more than I did in hs, but its just alright still. I totally understood the symbolism this time around, but I don't get it why my brother and sister like it so much. Everyone's different

message 15627: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15 comments I'm still reading Isabel Allende's "Paula." When I first started, I was a bit put off with her stream of consciousness writing, but, mea culpa, I shortly realized it is a memoir. At any rate, I soon became caught up in her prose--so beautiful. What a talent. I now read it, not only for the richness of her background, but for her skill with words.

I really look forward to it. And the author seems very nice - he sent a personalized note and a bookmark along with the signed book. I was so excited!

Just started .Olive Kitteridge A Novel in Stories

message 15637: by Rachel (new)

It was on of four collections I won last March for the Love Your Indie contest on Joe Hill's website. message 15641: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) Reading The Given Day, by Lehane. Very good story, time period of Boston 1919 is hard to resist. The characters are a little stock like, but the story, grime smoke, dirty alley ways make up for that. Lehane makes me want to be a socialist. Though I often have the same reaction with Orwell.

This is one of those books you can see as a great movie, but doesn't read like one, which I am loooovvvvviiiiiingggggggg.

message 15642: by Emily (new)

Emily Yeah I love the GR giveaway thing, there are a lot of good books on it, stuff I normally wouldn't pick up. Gotta love free books!

Theresa, I had the same feeling. I read the bok years ago, not remembering for what reason. When I started it I was sceptical because i thought it would be an over dramatic, emotional, weak book. But like you I was absorbed more and more about the book and I really liked it a lot. Recently I read The house of the spirits. Was also with this one very sceptical but I loved it! I guess i should read more by Allende!
