message 176: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Cathy wrote: "Ashley, are you reading or listening to A is for Alibi?

I am reading it on my Kindle. It's good so far, but I'm only a short way into. I think it's going to remind me of the Stephanie Plum series, since I listen to that series, I hear that voice in my head when I read it.

message 177: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (drewgrigaliunas) | 4 comments I am currently reading a book that was recommended to me by two lovely young ladies who call themselves Book Soulmates. If you need some ideas as to what to read next, I would highly recommend their website www.booksoulmates.com. I go there first when I need some ideas for a book to read. They are very friendly and they are open to new suggestions. Plus they have some cool giveaways and some great vlogs. Happy reading everyone!!

Chick Lit Shorties (ChickLitShorties) | 16 comments Currently reading American Girls About Town, it's a collection of short stories by some amazing authors including Jennifer Weiner, Sarah Mlynowski (her story in the collection is great!), Cindy Chupack, Jill Smolinsky, Melissa Senate, and many more (17 total, I think)

And of course reading the fun one paragraph contest entries and short stories on http://www.ChickLitShorties.com :)

American Girls About Town They're Not Just the Girls Next Door.... by Jennifer Weiner

Very cool! I have this on my summer reading list for a challenge for another Goodreads group...how are you liking it in all?

message 192: by Dana (new)

Dana | 3 comments I'm currently reading The Gatecrasher - I've loved all of Madeleine Wickham's books - but i'm having a little trouble getting into this one - i'm trying to stick with it and see if it picks up!

Chick Lit Shorties (ChickLitShorties) | 16 comments @Cathy: Some of course stand out better than others, but overall it's great so far! You can carry it around on your day of errands and it's perfect for when you have only 10 mins or so; you really do get that nice feeling of fulfillment in having read a story from beginning to end :) It's also a neat way to get introduced to some new writers and their styles without committing to a full book. Think of it as Chick Lit tapas! Have you read the short story collection "This Is Chick Lit"?

@Dana: Have you been a fan of Madeleine Wickham for a while? Although the name Sophie Kinsella has been everywhere for so long, seems that only lately the resurrection of her Madeleine books has picked up.

message 194: by Dana (new)

Dana | 3 comments I've been a fan for a while now - first starting with all the Sophie Kinsella books - but then when I found out that she was one in the same - I started reading the Madeleine books and LOVED them. I love Twenties Girl - went through that in about two days! And The Weddig Girl was a great read...

message 195: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 11 comments I'm reading Dress Rehearsal by Jane O'Connell for my book club. It's a cute story and a pretty fast read.

I felt the same way Dana. I am a HUGE Sophie fan, so when the publishers started advertising that Madeline and Sophie were one in the same, I ran out and bought every Madeline book I could find. I started with the Gatecrasher, and found it to be VERY disappointing - even when reading with an open mind that the writing style would not be similar to Sophie. It took me a long time to go back to them, but I read Sleeping Arrangements and now I can't wait to read The Wedding Girl and her new one!

I've read both American Girls About Town and This is Chick Lit. I always feel so...needy(?) after I finish a short story. I am always left wanting to know more, and I find myself screaming out THAT'S IT?!?! But I have found new authors to read through the shorty stories, so mission accomplished!

Ughh! I plowed through the gatecrasher - I too was extremely dissapointed! I've LOVED all her other books. It kind of put me off, but I still have a few, sleeping arrangements, to check out. The Wedding Girl was SO great! I loved it.
