I read Abandon and I was actually really disappointed by it - it was just not up to her usual standard. It's too bad, because I LOVE her books usually. I'd be interested to hear what you think once you read it!

message 303: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) About to start The Other Woman The Other Woman by Jane Green .

message 304: by Robin (new)

Robin Van Auken (robin_van_auken) | 2 comments Getting ready to start The Mill River Recluse. Heard good things about it. Think the protagonist may be a kindred spirit.

message 305: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (mrschelseabyro) Just started The Help. Has anyone read this? How did you like it?

Julie Mead | 1 comments Chelsea wrote: "Just started The Help. Has anyone read this? How did you like it?"

I just finished it! I Liked it more then I thought I would. I wasnt sure I would be able to get into it, but it was an easy read.

Natasha Chelsea wrote: "Just started The Help. Has anyone read this? How did you like it?"

I read this a looong time ago...before I knew that they were making a movie. I remember liking it, and reading it quickly. My mom started a few months ago, though, and couldn't get into it. I really liked the movie! (Just as much or better than the book, which usually doesn't happen for me!) :)

Cjandres (goodreadscomcjandres) | 16 comments Chelsea wrote: "Just started The Help. Has anyone read this? How did you like it?"

I really liked it too! I liked the characters, the story. I haven't seen the movie but I've heard it was good also.

message 309: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jhinds) I just started to read books by Sarah strohmeyer. I havent formed a opinion yet. I am currently reading the Devil May Care by Sheri Mcinnis. So far its a pretty good read and a different plot.

message 310: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Melanie wrote: "Rachael wrote: "I'm reading Erica Bauermeister's Joy for Beginners right now which isn't that good, but I also have Meg Cabot's Abandon, and Ann Brashares' Sisterhood Everlasting out from the libra..."

I was disappointed as well. I didn't think the plot was cohesive. I felt like everything was backward and the writing was jumbled. I haven't read much by Cabot, but what I've read I had enjoyed. I wanted to like Abandon but it didn't grab me at all.

message 311: by Denise (new)

Denise (deniseg53) | 3 comments I'm reading Sharon Pomerantz's RICH BOY. Excellent book.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Am reading This Charming Man This Charming Man by Marian Keyes . Usually love Keyes but this book very irritating. Whole book so far written stilted like these sentences. Keep getting distracted because keep filling in missing words in head. Only on page 45 and hoping changes soon or no telling what will do.

Read my post and look how many words you notice are missing. (I) keep getting distracted because (I) keep filling in (the) missing words in (my) head. The whole book is written like that. Boy is it annoying, too!

message 317: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jhinds) ok i will read it next. or i may pass on it. Im currently reading holly'd inbox:scandel in the city. Its written all in email form. Im having a hard time remembering who talking to which chararcter in the book. Im trying to stick with that one too.

Chelsea (mrschelseabyro) Finished Secret Society Girl and starting The Red In Her Eyes by Cori Todd My friend wrote her first book, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy!

Off topic... How many of you have won books from the giveaways?

message 319: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) I've won a lot of books from giveaways. So many, in fact, that I've stopped entering contests, lol. Is it okay to talk about Librarything here on Gr? Librarything has a ton of giveaways. I always prefer e-copies since I can put them on my Kindle, but I did snag a hard copy of a book called Boxer, Beetle.

Right now, I'm reading an urban fantasy called Under Witch Moon which is a lot of fun. It's more of a mystery than a traditional chick lit, but I'm enjoying the heroine's personality.

message 320: by Michele (new)

Michele Gorman I just started One Day. I've read many comments in the media that it's chick lit but that because it's written by a man it isn't branded as such. I disagree though. To me, chick lit has a central female character, is humorous and has a happy ending. One Day follows two characters equally, and though the characters are supremely witty, I'm not at all convinced it's going to have a happy ending!

I am loving the book (the characters are superbly written) and am flying through it!One Day

message 321: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Still slogging through This Charming Man This Charming Man by Marian Keyes but also reading Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie Maybe This Time.

message 322: by Angela (new)

Angela | 9 comments I'm reading the classic, Frankenstein. I'm at the part where Frankenstein's brother is murdered.

message 323: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jhinds) I really like Jenifer Cruise. She basically started my love of chick lit. I just finshed Marian Keyes' Anybody out here. I just read several of her books including This Charming Man. I like her as an author. but after reading several of her books back to back. I need a break. Her books (marain Keyes) are long, emotional, with hints of comdey and odd characters. I put now Anybody out here this morning. When I went to the library today to drop it off. I went to a differnt gendre. I just need a break from here books.

Im rereading THe Little lady Agency and just started The Feminine Mystique. Just for a change of pace.

message 324: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished This Charming Man This Charming Man by Marian Keyes and ultimately really liked it, which is surprising if you consider that for the first 40% of it I was considering not finishing it because it annoyed me so much.....

message 325: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jhinds) agreed.

message 327: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jhinds) what did you think of that one? I couldnt get into it.

message 330: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 1 comments just started with Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin...still waiting to 'feel' the characters though..

message 331: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) I'm reading The Miracles of Prato A Novel by Laurie Lico Albanese which is more of a historical women's fiction book about the Medici family in Renaissance Italy. I am really enjoying it :)

And I agree that Water for Elephants is an excellent book! I didn't see the movie, but then again, I'm all about Team Jacob instead of Team Edward, lol.

message 332: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) About 2/3 through Maybe This Time Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie . The premise doesn't really appeal to me but despite that I can't seem to put it down. I'm remembering that I love Jennifer Crusie and I cannot understand why I let so much time go by between reading her books!

message 339: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Viggiano | 1 comments Working my way through Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (or is it Infidelity?!). Started off promisingly but half way through and the storyline has gone a bit saggy. Hoping it will pick up pace again soon.

Devan Sipher | 2 comments Debbie wrote: "Working my way through Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (or is it Infidelity?!). Started off promisingly but half way through and the storyline has gone a bit saggy. Hoping it will pick up pace again ..."

I found High Fidelity more "saggy" than I anticipated, but the last fifty pages made the whole book worthwhile. I'm almost finished with The First Husband by Laura Dave and really enjoing it.

message 341: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Sort of real life chick -- Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal Perfection A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal by Julie Metz . I LOVE the cover. I liked the book and imagine it must have been incredibly cathartic to write. The only thing I'm not sold on is the extent to which the author seems intent on hanging on to the things that happened to her, and measuring herself against them. I suspect it's largely due to how recently the events had happened to her when she wrote this but I hope for her sake she grows into the ability to shed some of their influence.

message 342: by Karen (new)

Karen (kas1uk) | 11 comments Just started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson .Don't know if I will like it or not but a lot of people have recommended it to me.
