Gwennie (blessedwannab) Heidi I wrote: "Wendy, Catie, and Brittany I consider us book siblings (along with Jaimie) :) I am pretty picky so it is hard to be my twin (alhtough Peep is probably close :)"

Hahaha, I agree with that. We're book siblings. Funny, cause I was just reading through others and thinking about how I doubt I'll have a book twin.

message 18: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ugh! I found a spelling error! I changed it because I can't stand when I spell things wrong :)

message 19: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Heidi - Maybe not twins (twilight and MI series for example) but siblings for sure - I like that we have a little different tastes because it makes me branch out a little more and I have found so many new books because of it!

Right back at you! How could I forgot the gal who brought me Georgia and Marcus Flutie!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Becca wrote: "Do you have any idea how often I'm visiting your shelves?"

No, but if it's as often as I visit yours then I'm sure it's often enough.

And you know what I love most? Not just that we like and dislike the same books, but that we have similar opinions whenever debates pop up. I always feel like you're reading my mind and I know you've got my back. I love it.

Yes Heidi, siblings for sure. I appreciate all your recommendations, especially the audiobooks, but Becca is my one and only twin.

P.S. I think you and Jaimie are tv twins!

Nikki (aka Quinn) | 69 comments I want a book friend :( I could be a little sister since I'm new to YA :)

Nikki (aka Quinn) | 69 comments Maybe I should try to find a real friend first haha I'm a dork

love tana french and all the others on your list, but not familiar with michael chabon.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Must not be too girly. If you like Twilight I mean no offense but we clearly are not twins. Actually I don't really like vampires or werewolves (unless they're funny ala Soulless).

Examples of my favorites:
Hex Hall (this is an example of the right kind of girly)
Hunger Games
Melina Marchetta (ALL)
Garth Nix Sabriel books
Soulless (right kind of girly!)
Tamora Pierce Tortall series
Ender's Game
Jacky Faber on audiobook

Gosh this is hard I feel like I should just point you to my shelves where you can properly judge me. I really like dystopians, fantasy and strong female protagonists.

DISLIKE (also important)
-weak female characters who base life decisions purely on high school relationships
-mopey teen novels (Shiver was too mopey for me).

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Your reviews speak to me Catie. But you have some authors that are your "must reads" that I haven't read (which makes me VERY curious to read them).

I could see us as semi-book twins. Not identical. Maybe fraternal twins. Of course once I read the authors you listed above we may be closer than I thought.

Nikki (aka Quinn) | 69 comments Cassi... I love dystopian and out of what you mentioned I really liked Sabriel, Hunger Games, and Jacky Faber audio... could be a connection lol

message 30: by Jessica (last edited Apr 05, 2011 07:56PM) (new)

Jessica This was kind of hard, trying to give a good view of yourself without overdoing it.

Favorites
- Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion
- Jane Eyre
- The Mayor of Casterbridge
- Harry Potter Series
- His Dark Materials Series by Phillip Pullman
- Anne of Green Gables
- Graceling
- Anything by Melina Marchetta
- Crown Duel

Books I've read in the past few months that I loved (and may one day be all-time favorites)
- Megan Whalen Turner's Attolia books
- My Most Excellent Year

My (not so) secret shame
- While I liked each successive book less, I kind of like Twilight

Not represented on this list is that I read a lot of romance as well.

message 31: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi your description sounds like me!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi I wrote: "Cassi your description sounds like me!"

I'm so glad there are others like me out there!

message 33: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments hey Catie: here's a thought- what if i put 5 books i am considering reading then the next person to post has to have read one of those and recommends the one i must read then posts their 5 possible books. what do you think- that could be intersting?! did that makes sense? rereading it i think it does.

message 34: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments there are so many good series out there, i'm sad thinking i will never find my twin. have found some that are 92% the same though.

message 35: by amy (new)

amy (asmith519yahoocom) | 80 comments holly, that sounds like fun , i'd do it!

message 36: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Having just compared shelves, I've come to the conclusion that my little brother is my book twin - 85% similarity! He reads less than me though, so he's not too great for recommendations.

Definitely feeling a sibling-like affinity with several of you guys though - Cassi, Catie, Becca, Jessica... I'm off to raid all your shelves for reading suggestions! :D

message 37: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments ok Catie what should we call our book recommending game?

Tai, we have pretty similar tastes! 85% according to GRs. I'm reading Nightshade now and LOVE it.

message 39: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Catie wrote: "92%?! That's really high - I've never seen anyone that high with me.

That sounds like a fun idea Holly! You should put that in the challenges folder. I would do it.

Hey Jessica, I think yo..."

Hahaha, that's funny! I got the highest with Jessica too, at 89%. I've got alot more books on my read shelf though, so I wonder how accurate it is.

When I look through the shelves there's alot of her books I haven't read, but we do tend to rate the same... (So Jessica, you may have 2 twins..., haha).

After that I have Jaimie as the next highest at 85%, then Heidi at 83%, then Becca, Bluemoon and Cassie at 81%, last (in the 80's) is Catie at 80%.

message 40: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Yikes Wendy, that's awesome - I don't think I'm in the eighties with anyone at all, except my bro! Perhaps my taste is a bit odder than I thought.. :D

message 41: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments Holly wrote: "ok Catie what should we call our book recommending game?"

what do you all think of "Give Me 5: a book recommending game" ?????

message 42: by amy (new)

amy (asmith519yahoocom) | 80 comments give me 5 is cool!

message 43: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments It's funny, but Brittany, who I consider my book twin, and I only have an 83% similarity rating. It's not so much how we rate books, but that we say each other's thoughts a lot of the time and tend to enjoy the same genres.

Brittany, I think our taste in classics is almost 100% the same by way of rating though, at least among the classics I've read. I wonder if goodreads could create a feature of comparing ratings in genres rather than just all books. That would make it a lot easier to find people with similar tastes.

message 44: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Catie wrote: "Hey Heidi (my audiobook twin and fellow 30 Rock lover) - I know that we both said we don't typically read memoirs, but did you notice that Tina Fey's new book "Bossypants" is narrated by the author..."

HEY! My audiobook twin remains! I just added that book to my Overdrive wishlist over the weekend! Great minds :)

message 45: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wendy I told you we were at least siblings!

message 46: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments for all those interested, i just started the Give Me 5 challenge. if you hurry you can pick my book for me.

message 47: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Heidi I wrote: "Wendy I told you we were at least siblings!"

83% is pretty darn good, for sure!

message 48: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany I hate to break it to you but we are 86% similar :)

message 49: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Hahaha! I think I'm being shafted!

message 50: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Heidi, I don't think I can even compare books with you. I can't find where to do it cause your profile is private, but it makes me curious if you're that close to Brittany.
