Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Soon, my precious, soon this series will premiere! April 17! I can't wait.

You'd think that they'd put this series on in the fall. Winter is coming, after all.

Oh...the cheese!

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Has anyone been playing their little Maester's Path game? I got bored with it after the first two, but it was nice to see them doing something extra.

Also, any of you in New York City or LA get a chance to grab some Lemon Cakes from the GoT Food Carts? If so, send me some!

message 3: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 177 comments Been trolling the net for reviews of the first episode. Not a single dud in the bunch! Every one that I have read have been nothing but praise.

I am impatient. I adore the casting. It is good enough that they got the Starks and Lannisters right, but goodness even Khal Drogo and Littlefinger are right on the money.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I've actually avoided most of the videos(aside from the first couple of teaser trailers) and still shots out there, so as not to spoil the first episode.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I went to see the movie Insidious Friday night. Not a bad movie! Very creepy first half. Anyway, before the movie they had a preview of Game of Thrones. It looks sooooo good! I can't wait.

message 6: by Rita (new)

Rita (xeyra) Probably my most anticipated show in a long time.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Xeyra wrote: "Probably my most anticipated show in a long time."

Indeed! I think Martin is very deserving of this, considering all his years working in Hollywood.

Dawn (breakofdawn) I don't know if anyone has posted this link elsewhere yet... But just in case, you can now watch the first 15 minutes or so of the premiere on HBO's website. It kinda rocks :)

message 9: by Dawn (last edited Apr 04, 2011 04:37PM) (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) And they have some sweet house sigil wallpapers there as well.

*geeked out*

message 10: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Awesome! Thanks, Dawn!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

That Tully one just makes me chuckle

message 12: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Good luck, Kimberly! :)

message 13: by Lina (new)

Lina Al-Midfa I was planning to go to desperate lengths to watch it as well (online lol) but not anymore!!
They're going to show it in my country!!
Apr 20 babaaaay!
Can you believe it?!I still can't, it's THAT popular! and the trailer for it is this arabic guy talking,,, its so wierd!

message 14: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Yeah, this series is getting even more popular, if that's possible, and there's a ton of buzz for the show.

As for the series, I've heard of people who don't read books at all reading this series and loving it. Martin must be rolling in the money now...LOL

I'm glad to hear that you'll be able to watch it too, Lina! :)

message 15: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments HBO On Demand has the first 15 minutes available. I watched it over the weekend. It basically covered the Prologue and the first chapter.

It was really good. I can't wait until Sunday.

message 16: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Tripp Kimberly wrote: "I am anxiously awaiting this show, I don't have HBO so I am going to have to go to desperate lengths to watch it... and I will watch it!"

Same here, but I don't know what to do short of watching it at my friend's house. Do you know of any websites that might have full episodes? Hulu doesn't have HBO :(

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm...when they air I'll find them somewhere or other Olivia. Between file sharing programs like Vuze and about a million sites that host tv shows, I've no doubt that they'll be available. Now I can't promise it'll be the actual premiere night but I'm sure it'll be soon thereafter. I'll keep you posted :)

message 18: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Tripp That would be so great Grant. On the premiere night, I guess I'll just sit at home and read the first one. Maybe cry a little bit.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Depending upon your location, you could conceivably get them on premiere night...

*shifty-eyed*

Dawn (breakofdawn) Tracey wrote: "The first fifteen minutes were very, very good. I'd actually forgotten about [spoilers removed]. Heh, and the HBO website quizzie thing put me in the Night Watch as my family. Oh yeah, that'll w..."

What quiz is that? I couldn't find a quiz on there...

message 21: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Also, HBO has been showing a 30 minute making of GoT special lately, I watched it the other day.. It was awesome! I'm so pumped for Sunday.

message 22: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I just saw that HBO is having a free preview weekend this coming weekend so all can see the first episode for free.

message 23: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Whaaaa? Now I really wish I hadn't added HBO yesterday... LOL.

message 24: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) Awesome! Scott, you're my new hero.

I just checked and he's right. GoT on the DVR set to record.

message 25: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) *shakes fist at HBO*

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

It's ok Dawn, it'll only be for the first episode.

message 27: by Dawn (last edited Apr 14, 2011 05:30PM) (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) I know, it's just that I just activated my HBO subscription like yesterday. If I had waited a day, I could have watched it free Sunday and activated next week and saved a week of fees. So shake my fist I will! *double shakes fist* :)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, well then..

*shakes fist at HBO too for support*

message 29: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (chesan) | 32 comments Dawn, I just added HBO to my line-up yesterday as well not knowing it was free this week so I'll shake my fist right along with you! *shakes both fists*

I've been telling everyone I know that they have got to watch this. I'm forcing my husband and daughter to watch it with me on Sunday.

I got a couple of co-workers hooked on the books so I've got somebody to discuss the episodes with as we go through the season - in addition to the great folks here at GR!

message 30: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) I kept telling people at work to watch it... And they all gave me that same "suuuure" look. Their loss!

message 31: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments i am looking forward to this so much that i had a nightmare about it last night. no joke! this incredibly prosaic "nightmare" involved missing the first 15 minutes and then my dvr somehow stopped working. i didn't exactly wake up in a cold sweat, but it was a discomfiting experience!

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

You know that free preview? Yeah, we don't get it out here.

So... guess I'll just have to 'find' it somewhere.

message 33: by Lori (last edited Apr 16, 2011 03:46PM) (new)

Lori I got into an incredible fight with my husband over this. I currently watch no TV at all, which is a good thing because my husband watches every night and hogs it. So last night when I informed him that I would be watching this on Sunday night, he told me I couldn't because the TV was "booked" solid, not only was he watching something but also taping! He told me he would tape it for me, and I could watch it any time. Well, I lit into him something fierce! How could I watch when the TV is booked every night? When told I could watch during the day, I told him I DON'T WANT TO WATCH TV in the middle of the day.

Wow. We haven't fought like that in over a decade, ha!

Guess who won? Actually kudos to my 15yo son, who was rational for the first time in his life and mediated!

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Lori wrote: "I got into an incredible fight with my husband over this. I currently watch no TV at all, which is a good thing because my husband watches every night and hogs it. So last night when I informed him..."

Oh man I hate when that happens! My dad was possessive like that too and even forbade my mom to watch shows like Roseanne which irritated him. Glad it turned out well for you.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol...there were separate Dvr's in my household. My wife had one all to herself and I had my own in my man cave. Problems solved ;)

message 36: by Terry (new)

Terry Simpson | 261 comments Will be watching tonight. I saw the first 15 minutes. I have my reservations with some name changes but I can deal with them.

For some reason when I watched the beginning I looked forward to two things "Dead is dead. We have no business with the dead.' And "Which sound is it that unmans you so, Gared?"

I loved those lines but got neither :(

However I did like how they did the wall. INCREDIBLE.

message 37: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Just watched it. It was more amazing than I thought it was going to be. Really glad that they kept really true to the book.

message 38: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) A Dance with Dragons will be ever more EPIC in the summer because of the show, and all the new comers that will have been picked up.

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori 1.25 more hours for me, but thanks Kevin now I'm excited!

message 40: by Terry (new)

Terry Simpson | 261 comments It was AMAZING!!!

message 41: by Terry (new)

Terry Simpson | 261 comments Watching it for the third time now!

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

*nods* I'm pleased :) yay for the free preview. Kept me from having to be piratical for a week :D

message 43: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments i thought tyrion was perfectly cast. i was very surprised at cersei' characterization, and liked it. in the novel, at least the first two novels, she is pure evil, and shallow to boot. i thought that lena headey gave her some very interesting shadings.

i'm still biding my time on judging the fellow who played jaime. his natural accent came through from time to time, which was a little disconcerting.

message 44: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (chesan) | 32 comments "And Tyrion... no no no! All wrong."

I agree Nicki. Even though the actor did a very good job he just doesn't look like how Tyrion was described in the book. Should have been uglier and scruffier - not a very well dressed & handsome little person.

I wish the premier episode could have been 2 hours. I've talked to several people who watched but hadn't read the book(s) and they were puzzled about some things. I had to give a spoiler-free explanation of The Wall and The Night's Watch. 2 hours would have allowed a little more info for people to understand.

And one other thing: hasn't anyone in Westeros or the Free Cities heard of the missionary position?!

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Was that supposed to be an Other at the beginning? That wasn't how I pictured them...

message 46: by Lori (new)

Lori Hahaha! I do agree that it was confusing for people who didn't read the book. My husband was confused - so he did watch it again the 2nd time it came on which was very helpful. Then again, he had me to explain things between the 2 viewings.

The actor playing Tyrion is an excellent actor aside from being a little person, so I understand why he was cast - they were going for the talent.

message 47: by Lina (last edited Apr 18, 2011 07:48PM) (new)

Lina Al-Midfa Oh God, I haven't watched it yet, they're showing it on the 20th where I live, but I literally forced my bf to watch it, he's in the UK and he's never read the books.

But he LOVED it!!! I also had to explain about the others and the Wall, he was like huh? he loved the nakedness and the sex lol, he loved the whole doggystyle thing, but he is Arab lol
But then he said oh my God they killed him why would they kill him

And for a minute I was thinking did they really show the whole book in one episode? And then he said the little boy, and realized it's that cliff hanger ending that George is so fond of lol,
(view spoiler) I told him he'd have to wait til next week =)

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree that Peter Dinklage is far better looking than Tyrion should be but I can't think of a better actor to actually Act in the role. He's excellent.

Lol @ Cheryl. (view spoiler)

I agree that Catelyn looked rather worn and I thought the genteman playing Benjen too young but overall I was rather pleased. I think it will be difficult for those who haven't read the book to pick up at first but I'm sure it'll come together for noobs in no time at all. They kept quite nicely to the books in many, many respects.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm still amused that I hated Theon when he appeared in the show, without knowing it was Theon.

message 50: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I love adaptation so far. I absolutely loved the view of the Wall!
