April - Pick It For Me Challenge
No kidding - I keep reminding & hoping that everyone remembers to check back (speaking of which, I think it is time for another reminder).....Don't forget to check back on March 29th to see who you get to recommend for. Make those recommendations by April 2nd and make sure to find your recommendations too.
This is going to be fun with so many people participating :o)
Just to put my 2 cents in...The deadline for making recs is April 2nd, but the earlier you post, the better. People start looking for their pics very early on.
Just sayin' :-)
Great point Penney, our regulars do hang around shortly after cut off waiting to get started. This month I would like to caution everyone that it might take a little longer for the 'magic' to happen - with well over 100 names to sort, well it could take awhile.
Did a little looking, noticed how many names we have multiples of. Found 9 names for nearly 20 people - doing my best to keep you all straight. Some of you now have your last initial added to your name, others I have found profile addresses to use. If you are unsure which one you are, or have another way you want me to identify you, let me know.
not random :o)I got a whole theme planned out from sorting to the recommending guidelines. I had fun coming up with it, I just hope I can pull it off with such a large group.
Just a little suggestion once the recs get posted. Since it may be hard to keep track of all the replies coming in, perhaps the picker could PM the person they're picking for with a link to their recommendation post so they can easily find it. I'm sure it'll save on some time and frustration, scrolling through all those replies!
Okay imma just say this. How would you feel if your best friend all of a sudden started talking bout you? But you didn't do anything.
Amanda, that would be fine as long as the recs are either made in this thread or it is posted that you got your recs (otherwise more names are in the re-mix than needed)
Oh, of course! I'm sure some members might not keep up or check threads as often as others, so once their recs have been posted here, the picker can kind of notify their pickee that "Hey, posted your recs! Here's a link to where they are," etc. With over a hundred signed up to participate, recommendation lists are going to be flying all over the place!

You know now this is NOT your best friend. Get a group of friends and not a best friend.

Why not? I'm not a masochist and hate people talking behind my back. I rather her say whatever she has to say to me directly. So i would call her and ask about this boldly.

I'd be gone. Your worth better friends than a behind the back bitch (excuse my french). It's happened to me before and I walked away. Now I have much better real friends.
Wow, up to 119 - so do I get bonus points if it breaks the 125 that D.G. seems to be hoping for - you Devil's Harlot :)
I have a question. I have two to-read lists. One is single titles and one is series. I'm kind of OCD about organization so I found this works for me. Would you like me to combine the two for the challenge, or can I just send my partner a message explaining the situation?
Alexis wrote: "I have a question. I have two to-read lists. One is single titles and one is series. I'm kind of OCD about organization so I found this works for me. Alexis wrote: "I have two to-read lists. One is single titles and one is series..."Alexis, What a neat idea! I checked out your shelfs. I could have used this idea now that I've also entered a "Spring Cleaning" challenge that ties up loose ends in various series.
Melissa wrote: "I would think as long as it is obvious that they are both to read it should be fine leaving them like that."I agree! I also have two "To-Read" lists. One is "To Read" (for books I already own) and the other is "Will Be Reading" for books that I intend to pick up (upcoming releases or books in a series I just started). They are both obvious enough that people can tell.
Does anyone else agree that the hardest part of this challenge is waiting for the sign up to close so we can get started? Or am I just an impatient person?
I with you AlbertaJenn, waiting is the hardest part! Plus, I'm a little nervous b/c it is my first challenge; I don't want to disappoint anyone."Instant gratification takes too long." ~ Carrie Fisher
The only way to disappoint anyone Lisa Kay, is if you totally forget to come back and make your recommendations. The fun part is seeing the recs that are totally new you, books you would never have chosen on your own. But if you don't like the 'new' books, there're always the books from your TBR. Chances are, if the books are on their TBR then they actually want to read them.Just relax and enjoy the ride :)
Some great questions, and some equally great answers. There are so many new faces and some that I haven't seen for a while. It is wonderful :) I know it is tough to wait for the sign ups to close and this month with such a large cast it may take longer than normal to sort it all out. So I would recommend returning March 29th (I am CST) to find who you get to pick for and who gets to pick for you.
Melissa, thank you so much! I figure it will be pretty obvious, you have my to-read list then right below it my to-read-series list. I was mainly worried there was a rule or something somewhere :)
No, no special rules about what shelf they pick from, plus if you like you can always PM the person that is picking for you and ask them to pick from a specific shelf. The selection guidelines this month also have quite a lot of 'wiggle room' - we are all here just to have fun with it and find something good to read :)
AlbertaJenn wrote: "I agree! I also have two "To-Read" lists. One is "To Read" (for books..."I have a similar system, Alberta. My "To Read" has only books I have on hand and then I have several other lists for books I want to read but can get from my library, books I'm considering or books that haven't come out yet but I want. :)
And yes, I agree, the hardest part is to wait! But we're almost there. :)

Don't be nervous, Lisa Kay! You'll do alright. :)

Okay, I'm ready! I reviewed my TBR shelf and changed things "to-ponder" and "to-read-series"... Oh, I getting excited now! :)
48 hours left for the sign ups, then everyone will have till April 2nd to make their recommendation. Don't forget, everything is done in this thread, once the match ups are done simply make your recommendations (also here in this thread) and find your own book choices. You are only committing to reading one of the recommendations. After you have read your selection, come back to this thread and let us know what you read and what your thoughts were on it.
Thanks again for all the great questions and answers - don't hesitate to jump in if you have a question or a concern of your own.
I'm in :) This is my first challenge so I'm pretty stoked. :DAlso you can list me as Jess (riotxjess) for name purposes if need be :D
Jess, not a problem :)Ok, milestone time - I think this is the biggest I have ever seen this challenge get. Bonus goes to everyone that is being so patient with me. Just over 24hours left for the sign up period.
Don't forget to come back on March 29th and find who you get to pick for.
You will have from March 29th till April 2nd to make your recommendations. Anyone not getting a recommendation by April 2nd, 9pm (CST) and still wanting to them, will be included in a re-mix. The goal is to get recommendations for everyone that wants them.

I don't know if it's the biggest but I've been participating for 6+ months and we usually have around 70-80 people."
I think the most we have gotten is around those numbers. Though lets see how many come back to make the recommendations......THAT will be a real treat if the numbers are the same.LOL
