Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments haha, several have been ambitious and read more than one recommendation this month.

message 1102: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Moulin, I just finished reading The Storyteller's Daughter and I thought it was great! I am now rereading The Arabian Nights Entertainments and having this story running in my head while I read is adding to my enjoyment. It's like having a behind the scenes peak at what is going on and making the main characters and their story more understandable and likeable.

Thank you for the recommendation!

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments If anyone is interested in seeing what is being read, I have just finished updating the list of read books on page #22.

46 people have finished this challenge out of 127 original participants with 67 books read so far.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Sandy - Just thought I'd give you an update:

I'm 3/4 of the way through The Hunger Games. I'm listening to it as a audiobook and it's great (fab narrator). My one problem is that I am pretty hopeless with anything slightly emotional (I've been known to cry at cartoons and phone ads). Consequently, my drive to work in heavy traffic was fraught with me trying to conceal my tears and sobs from other drivers... *wobbly smile* My eyes are still sore here at work...

*edit* Just went back and checked: this isn't even your emotional pick!

It's very interesting to see what people have read. :) I think the Hunger Games is in the lead!

Shellbelle | 195 comments Up date for Becky! I have been listening to Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs on audio in my car, but I think I'm going to have to switch to reading it on Nook. The narrarator is really getting on my nerves! However I'm really starting to get into the book, and I'm really glad I decided to give it try!

message 1109: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments I've finished Darkfever - which didn't turn out to be so much of a buddy read for me (Sorry Shona!) due to the absolute s**t of a week I've had.

I have to say I wasn't that impressed... maybe it's because I've been reading some really excellent UF / PNR lately but this one had some issues that I really couldn't get past inorder to get into the story. I'll read the next one, but I'm not in a rush to do it.

message 1110: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Pam,

I'm good to go with Desire Untamed unless you've already read it. If you have let me know, and I'll read it over the next couple of days.

What are the excellent books you've been reading? I'm always on the lookout for great pnr reads.

message 1112: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Hmmm... let me think.

JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series - start with Dark Lover - urban vampires, tackles some issues which are very brave for a PNR/UF series.

Christine Feehan's Carpathians - start with Dark Prince - old world vampires, interesting take on the slow destruction of species.

Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series - only read Magic to the Bone so far but it has an interesting and refreshing take on magic use.

Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax series - start with Grimspace - okay, so this is probably more sci-fi urban fantasy but an amazing series that both makes you laugh and rips your heart out.

Sydney Croft's ACRO series - start with Riding the Storm - Xmen get hot and sexy.

That should get you started :)

message 1113: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Oh, and I finished Cutting Loose - quick fun read, it's a pain that she hasn't finished the trilogy though.

Keep reading them. I felt the same way you do. I think you have to read the whole series to love it.

Hey Layla, I just finished Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh and gave it ****

I really liked this book because we finally get to see Raphael becoming a more likable character instead of the arrogant ass he used to be. Illinum is, as always, a very nice touch to the story.
The main mistery in this book wasn't hard at all to guess but I really liked the way Singh developed it.

message 1116: by Jess (new)

Jess (hiighgeek) So I gave up on my pick for this month. The book just didn't go anywhere for me. Sadly enough. I'm going to try another pick.

message 1117: by taita (new)

taita Hi Gigi
I started The Black Lyon last night. On page 62 and it's OK so far. I just hope that Ranulf doesn't stay along this pity party path much longer. That stuff drives me nuts! How are you doing on this read so far?

message 1118: by Debbie (new)

She's doing an amazing job isn't she...

And I know I'm still joyfully working my way through my picks. Boy did I get some good ones this month. I finished Desire Untamed (buddy read) which was a great read and have followed it up with Moon Called which has added Adam to my fav-hero's list. All I can say is they'd better end up together in the end. And I need to go and buy the next one now....

Vi | 2794 comments OK, so I've been remiss in updating this challenge. These are list of books which I fortunately could integrate with other challenge:

1. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder - Completed. (It was great. Thanks for the push, Rebecca)
2. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - Reading
3. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey (buddy read) - Reading

Debbie, thanks for making the challenge fun. I loved it!

I should be able to finish The Mane Event tonight, tomorrow at the latest. So I'll plan to start as soon as I am finished! I have a lot going on that may interfere, but the BDB books, even though long, tend to go pretty fast. I hope that is the case with this one too. I'm really looking forward to reading with you!

message 1126: by Shellbelle (last edited Apr 19, 2011 09:31PM) (new)

Shellbelle | 195 comments Okay I finally finished my challenge! Thanks again Becky for the amazing Picks you put together!

I choose to read Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Moon Called by Patricia Briggs I choose it because I have been wanting to break out of the box a little and read a genre I don't usually read. For me that Urban Fantasty. I have actually read Patrica Briggs before, but I had read the first book in her Alpha and Omega series, so as I read the Mercy Thompson book, some of the characters where familiar!

I loved Moon Called and give it 5stars! Mercy was an amazing heroine, and I couldn't get enough of Adam! The story really sucked me in, and I couldn't put if down! I will def be reading more of this series. In fact I have already started on Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs :)

Tuğçe Gökırmak (tugcenidasevin) I have finished Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and thank you Elke! it was a really good read. I thought it was a book which had wonderful quotes that should be kept in mind about living.
I will also read another rec of Elke's The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson , will be a buddyread.

We also had a buddyread with Melissa** The Secret (Highlands' Lairds, #1) by Julie Garwood last week, which was one of my rec for her, that one was really good.
